Arguing with sister in law over DS age

Janedoe95 · 07/09/2022 17:04

Please do correct me if I’m wrong -

my DS is 6 months born on the 10th

I work out his age by weeks at the moment so 24 weeks = 6 months

but she says he’s not 6 months as it’s not the 10th yet?

am I the only one who calculates age like this? It aligns with his vaccinations and nurses haven’t said I’m wrong.

obviously I understand when he’s older every year on the 10th will be his birthday but from what I understand it’s calculated weekly as babies can change so much and grow so fast

Yep, it doesn’t really matter, but I’d say he’s nearly six months. As everyone else has said, six months is 26 weeks, not 24, so you are two weeks out.

BeneficiaryMadness · 07/09/2022 17:57

You do know how many weeks are in a year don’t you?
By your reckoning you’d be celebrating his birthday a whole month early…
24 weeks = 6 months
48 weeks = 12 months
Where have the other 4 weeks gone…
I really hope you can blame this on baby brain.

SheeWeee · 07/09/2022 17:59

How can a person know that there are 52 weeks in a year but still think that 6 months is 24 weeks?

Motorcycleemptyness · 07/09/2022 18:01

I genuinely couldn’t give a single fuck about this.

😂

mind-boggling.

Namechanger965 · 07/09/2022 18:06

Technically 26 weeks is 6 months but there’s very little difference between 24 and 26 weeks. I would just say 6 months. Past about 12 weeks I just went to months, sounds a bit stupid to say ‘he’s 23 weeks’ etc. Just round up to months. And today is the 7th, so is she actually arguing about 3 days?!

PantyMcPantFace · 07/09/2022 18:06

Why are you even having a discussion about it?

godmum56 · 07/09/2022 18:07

of all the weird and unimportant things to argue about....

I can see how it would come up..Op says something blah blah DS is 6 months now so blah blah, SIL wait, no he isn't, and OP argues with her.

SIL is right though. No resaon she shouldnt say so

MinervaTerrathorn · 07/09/2022 18:10

By your method he'll turn 13 months the day before he turns one.

Paigeworkerx · 07/09/2022 18:12

Months actually go off 4/4/5 ratio so a quarter has 13 weeks. 6 months would be 26 weeks on that basis

DenholmElliot1 · 07/09/2022 18:12

Sil is right.

And it's not worth arguing over.

alwaysdarkestbeforedawn · 07/09/2022 18:12

How does it align with his vaccination schedule? There are no vaccinations at 6 months. The vaccine schedule for young babies is counted in weeks. It’s not relevant to your argument at all.

I agree with the 800 other posters who have pointed out that 24 weeks is not half a year.

Hesma · 07/09/2022 18:13

Sorry but you obviously don’t understand how months work 🤣

Tesco184 · 07/09/2022 18:14

YABVU for getting worked up about it. Seriously.

Cynderella · 07/09/2022 18:14

He's six months old this weekend.

Will you celebrate his 1st birthday after 48 months?

Fladdermus · 07/09/2022 18:17

Are you really arguing over this?

Sarbears28 · 07/09/2022 18:18

This is why they say to start weaning at 6months. If you actually ask your HV they say (mine did to me) that in terms for babies it means after 24weeks but before 28weeks. If you thinking in terms of pregnancy and go by months being 4weeks its 10months long but it's not in calendar months. Its quite annoying if you actually think about it. Also bus passes are advertised as monthly but are actually 4weekly. Not a month at all.

PopPopPopP · 07/09/2022 18:18

Have I missed something? How can he be 24 weeks today, but 26 weeks in 2 days time? (🤯)

BeanieTeen · 07/09/2022 18:18

You’re being weird. Your sister in law is correct. You can count his age in weeks if you like obviously, but you can’t equate 4 weeks to exactly 1 month. That’s just bad maths.

NovaDeltas · 07/09/2022 18:20

I can't imagine having a conversation this dull.

Weirdlynormal · 07/09/2022 18:20

Only February is 4 weeks OP.

Don’t worry, it’s the lack of sleep.

BobLemon · 07/09/2022 18:22

Yo kid is 5 months

JudgeJ · 07/09/2022 18:23

lemongirl1985 · 07/09/2022 17:10

He will be exactly 6 months old on the 10th.

My mum does the same when one day after my let's say 30th birthday says oh now you're 31. No I'm not!!

At 30 you're entering your 31st year, when people are 39, 49, 59 etc I usually make the corresponding comment!
