To be heartbroken about Douglas Henshall not being a lovely guy I thought he was.

Just that really.
Love him in Shetland. Followed him on Twitter and found out he is not a nice guy at all. Quite shocking tweets to be honest - and he's been like that for years!
I know about actors being different people to their characters, but somehow I imagined him being more like Jimmy Perez and less like a prick he seems to be. I am genuinely upset.

That's the trouble, isn't it? You see someone in the public eye and construct a persona because you don't really know them. It's a bit of a let-down when you find out they are either ordinary or well below average. I think this happens particularly with actors as they inhabit the characters they portray, and can become associated with a particular character (type-casting, perhaps).

I just don't want to know if David Attenborough is anything but lovely, though!

Yes, just that!

Sectarianism is still far too prevalent in Glasgow.
Glad to hear he deleted and apologized for the hun comment.

The rest sounds crass but not atypical.

It is disappointing when it turns out actors are prats and nothing like the roles that they play. Unsurprising but still disappointing.

AlsoknownasOther · 06/09/2022 19:12

@newnamethanks these days a lot of politicians, like him, make me instantly think 'c*' when I see or hear them, but I actually can't stand the word and would never use it! 😳

HairyNipple · 06/09/2022 18:36

The Huns tweet is not what I found upsetting. It's loads of his other tweets with cunts and pricks and deserving to die in fire.
Maybe I'm too peral-clutchy, I don't know...
Feel free to ignore my disappointing thread :)

That tweet seems pretty accurate to me

DorritLittle · 06/09/2022 19:15

YANBU OP. I assumed he was like Jimmy Perez too. Disappointing!

dworky · 06/09/2022 19:16

Nah

fatgirlslimmer · 06/09/2022 19:19

I’m just glad he’s not dead. I think the title is a tad dramatic.

typingcake · 06/09/2022 19:20

I’m in Glasgow. The c word and other sweary language he’s used and in general use doesn’t offend me. I grew up in North Ayrshire (not too far from Glasgow) and the c word was used just as you’d use the term ‘guy’ … I’m not trying to defend or normalise it, that’s just how it was in these parts. Less so now.

I fancy him a bit too and didn’t know that’s how he tweeted. To be honest it doesn’t bother me one bit. I know loads of people who speak their mind like that. The secatarian language needs looked at tho and stamped out.

feellikeanalien · 06/09/2022 19:20

Totally irrelevant but he was at school with my BIL. Must ask him what he was like at school.🤔

LadyEloise1 · 06/09/2022 19:21

I hate that c word. It is so derogatory to women.
I would never use it.

derxa · 06/09/2022 19:23

My DH is a Celtic fan and might joke about 'huns' at home but never in a public place. This idea that all Scottish people use 'cunt' in every other sentence is not true. I might use it when I'm bloody angry but then I feel bad.

I agree

Pinkdelight3 · 06/09/2022 18:36

The C of E example isn't very compelling. He's allowed to call the CoE the c-word if he likes. Is there something more heinous?

Quite upsetting if you are a Christian, especially if you are an Anglican.

Angelinflipflops · 06/09/2022 19:26

Anyone who uses football as a reason to hate on others is a massive twat

TorviShieldMaiden · 06/09/2022 19:27

I laughed at the C of E and apprentice tweets 🤣

I didn't

MissAmbrosia · 06/09/2022 19:35

I love him in Shetland, though he is shockingly miscast from the books.

Butchyrestingface · 06/09/2022 19:37

I met him back in late 90s early 2000. Stares at your tits whilst speaking to you. That sort.

That's what would put me off.

I remember hearing 🎵 Have you ever seen a handsome hun? 🎵 being sung on the upper deck of a bus once post-old Firm game. It did make me splutter.

littlepiecesofnothing · 06/09/2022 18:34

OP I know the language isn’t nice but are you from Glasgow?

I am and maybe I’m hardened to it but it’s pretty standard language for Celtic fans to refer to Rangers fans. The Rangers fans regularly call Celtic fans fenians, tims, tarriers.

i don’t really bat an eyelid.

Well maybe you should be "batting an eyelid"

Sectarianism is a malignant blight on Scotland.

PanannyPanoo · 06/09/2022 19:40

Every time I watch Shetland he makes me think of Louis Walsh. It's most perturbing.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 06/09/2022 19:41

derxa · 06/09/2022 19:30

I didn't

Neither did I. They weren't funny. The C of E one doesn't even make sense.

I don't like him as he spouts a lot of separatist nonsense.

Pinkdelight3 · 06/09/2022 19:43

Boysgrownbutstillathome · 06/09/2022 19:25

Quite upsetting if you are a Christian, especially if you are an Anglican.

Sure they've had worse. And will forgive him.

Deciding he's lovely based on a TV drama then not lovely based on Tweets is the same strand of delusion. You've no idea what he's really like, when push comes to shove. Generally with famous people, it's often the ones who come across as cocks who turn out to be fine and the ones who seem nice who can be real cocks. But again, we're all a mix of different attitudes in different situations, and very, very few people are lovely as their prime characteristic.

Twawmyarse · 06/09/2022 19:43

I have no idea who he is. After reading the tweets it sounds like he's one of those "one of the lads" types. Or trying to be. Thinks saying lots of sweary words makes him cool but would probably shit himself if confronted in person by a bigger man. These types are usually massive wimps.

Thank you Dexra. I expect there will be the usual tedious posts claiming everyone in Scotland uses the c-word/ it's a term of endearment/ nothing to get upset about.
