So. You're Putin. You rule a massive amount of people. You're ex KGB. You want to take over the world perhaps (or maybe just want to play!).
What is your next move now that the West is in crisis as you won't supply them with oil/gas?
Your people are dying but you've loads of people. You've invaded a non NATO country so you know they won't touch you.

This is your thread title. I answered it.

You don’t know what Lenin or Marx stood for? Except communism you think?

And you think you can talk down to me? Staggering.

You couldn't understand what this question meant. AIBU to ask what your next move would be if you were Putin? That's the title of this thread.

No, you answered what you personally would do. You didn't answer what Putin would do. Jeez.

@Chowbellow You were needlessly aggressive in your response to @GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing. You've wittered on about Putin potentially gearing up to attack London but actually you've virtually no clue about world history or the history of Russia within that.

I would round up my 6 least favourite Generals, announce that they had disobeyed orders and killed some civilians in Ukraine, execute them instantly, blame them for everything that went wrong, and announce that Ukraine was now denazified, declare the rest of the campaign a stunning success, and retreat.

Then I’d tighten my grip on Russians even more, build up the army and tactical nukes, wait for the world attention to shift to something else (Taiwan perhaps?) and invade Ukraine again in a year or two, better.

Jesus Christ. That you Putin?

Well he's not about to invade Galway. The only reason for Russia to be in Irish waters is with an eye on London.

Your own link:

African economic intelligence firm Concerto estimates that Russian and Ukrainian imports account for 30 percent of all African wheat consumption.

So your figure of 30 % counts Ukrainian wheat as Russian...

Though you're right that Russia does have it's own imports of Actually Russian Not Pilfered Ukrainian wheat into Africa. I was thinking of the World Food Programme supply of wheat to African countries.

Before the Russian invasion, rather than being a recipient of food aid, Ukraine had grown to become the WFP’s largest supplier of food commodities by volume, its bountiful harvests providing the agency with more than 880,000 tons of wheat and split peas in 2021.

You still havent explained what Putin's motive would be for attacking London, located on an island off the coast of the mainland, known for being sympathetic to shadowy financial dealings and a popular hub for oligarchs.

It has left the EU and it's an island and it's where most of Russia's money is frozen.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/09/2022 20:17

What do I think he will do? Die or be killed probably.

Until then, probably he’ll keep chucking troops and ammo at Ukraine and prolong the war in the hope the West will end their support of Ukraine if it goes on long enough. Keep interfering with grain exports, nuclear power plants etc to cause as much disruption to the rest of the world as he can, in the hopes of fragmenting the fragile alliance that has formed in the west and parts of the wider world so far. Hope they’ll then turn on Ukraine and try to force them to give up land, so as to save face and live to fight another day.

Try to hold everyone else hostage with oil.

Probably try to build alliances up with anyone who’ll have it.

Keep trying to assassinate Zelenskyy if he can. He’s still an incredibly important figurehead.

I dk. I don’t think he’s as clever as people are making out, just has a total disregard for human life. I don’t think he’ll use nuclear weapons as despite the above I think he knows that leaves him with no options at all. Not saying he’s stupid either.

I can’t really engage with the idea of what should someone who was actually brilliant but evil do in his shoes. It’s a bit distasteful when you consider all of the death and misery that’s been caused by this war (since 2014), and by Putin’s regime in Russia itself and in other countries such as Syria. All the irretrievable loss and horror.

I answered you as I did because that’s what I would do if I suddenly woke up and found myself in his position.

I think it’s unlikely he’ll invade London whilst UK is a member of NATO. Which is one international organisation I don’t think we’ll be leaving.

The threats to invade London are up there with “Alaska is ours” in terms of empty threats. I think. I obviously don’t know him personally!

Tierne · 03/09/2022 20:22

The UK leaving the EU isnt an issue for Putin, why would it be? It means the UK isnt part of EU expansionism from his POV.

Well they're fucking fishing? Why are they there? There must be some point! Like in a chess game where a pawn moves and you don't see what the next move is. I don't trust that Putin is randomly sending his navy for a little holiday off the coast of Ireland.

Russia caused the UK to leave the EU. It’s their “greatest” (in their eyes) achievement - I’d put it above getting Trump in the Whitehouse as he was voted out after one term. More irreparable. Probably, although he managed to stack the Supreme Court due to the timings of certain Justices’ deaths so depends what happens with that.

PerkingFaintly · 03/09/2022 20:27

In case anyone is earnestly trying to distill sense out of the (increasingly faux-naive) OP's posts...

Putin's invasion of Ukraine is threatening the food supply of many parts of the world. Putin has turned a major global food producer into a warzone. Sea mines and naval activity in the export routes have almost entirely prevented usual food shipments (there are efforts to restart these, but so far nothing like enough).

Farmers have been running our of storage for this year's harvest, because they haven't been able to export wheat.

Occupying Russian forces have seized Ukrainian grain and lorry-loads have been tracked into Russia.

And Russian warfare in Ukraine has been setting fire to fields of crops, and also been making it unsafe for farmers to work.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/09/2022 20:27

I think EU expansion definitely bothers him.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/09/2022 20:28

White House. Apologies.
