To not want to eat halal meat?

Most restaurants serve it now, especially my favourite which is Indian food. Finding it more and more difficult to find somewhere that doesn't?

Agree. If it isn't pre-stunned, it's cruel beyond belief. Am estimated 15% of halal meat in the UK isn't pre-stunned.

GuerlainHo · 28/08/2022 14:14

I used to feel the same way until I realised the main difference between non halal and halal meat is that halal meat is prayed over before it’s slaughtered and the body is left to hang for the blood to be drained out naturally. Also halal meat tends to be skinless. When I realised that- it seemed like the better option honestly. Sounds healthier and certainly less cruel than the way non halal meat is slaughtered 🤷‍♀️

cough racism cough

Cue OP responding with; "Islam is not a race" and a wee humpy face emoticon.

gogohmm · 28/08/2022 14:16

As Indian restaurants are often run by Muslims I think your being unreasonable. It's personal preference to avoid halal, I too have reservations but it's up to you to avoid places serving it rather than them stopping

Many Indian restaurants are run by Sikhs which are against halal

But most "Indian" restaurants are actually Pakistani or Bangladeshi restaurants. We just call them all Indian restaurants.

mumboss1984 · 28/08/2022 14:24

I only eat vegetarian meals in Indian Restaurants for this reason. I avoid anywhere that I know is Halal.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/08/2022 14:25

It's been a while since a good old 'I'm not racialist but aren't Muslims awful for deciding to cook food that doesn't conflict with their religious beliefs in their own businesses? They should be forced to serve pork because this is a white Christian country' type of thread.

AgeofAdelaide · 28/08/2022 14:26

But why @mumboss1984 ? If you don’t mind me asking? You say for this reason, but OP hasn’t given a reason

mumboss1984 · 28/08/2022 14:28

Because everyone I have been to have served Halal meat and I don’t agree with it.

TheEggChair · 28/08/2022 14:28

Would you avoid eating kosher meat as well or just halal?

The op isn’t going to respond with shit because she knows that she doesn’t have a leg to stand on.

What don’t you agree with?

Jamaisy82 · 28/08/2022 14:29

I think I want to be vegetarian. The more I think about poor animals being slaughtered in any way just makes me ill and the way they are treat beforehand. There is no humane way of killing any animal, just some ways are worse than others.

The Halal process

Chooksnroses · 28/08/2022 14:30

HelloMrBond · 28/08/2022 12:30

Your quite right. Halal slaughter is nothing short of barbaric and shouldn’t be allowed under UK law.

Years ago I watched a documentary about the slaughter of animals. The presenter was a man who was very much against Halal, and ended up changing his mind totally. The animals in the 'normal ' slaughterhouse were frightened by the sights sounds and smells, and were very stressed. In contrast the halal animals were slaughtered very quickly, one animal in the room only. They were treated with respect, a prayer being said over each one. I ended up feeling that the Halal method was much kinder.

urgen · 28/08/2022 14:30

Why does halal meat trump other ways? I would like a choice

BerryBerryBerryBerry · 28/08/2022 14:31

Where is the OP? Maybe the daily mail have just updated their page so they are busy? Slow news day 😴

bendmeoverbackwards · 28/08/2022 14:31

I don’t think being vegetarian or vegan is enough if you care about animal welfare. Unless there is evidence to show that the rise in vegetarianism is linked to a drop in meat production.

The Halal process

What aspect of it?

Thesefeetaremadeforwalking · 28/08/2022 14:32

@Thebestwaytoscareatory If you've an issue with halal you should have an issue with all slaughter.

^ This.

This one reason why I am a vegetarian.

I very much hope I don't die today, but if I had to have my throat slit, I'd rather be stunned first.

mumboss1984 · 28/08/2022 14:33

All of it and no one can make me feel otherwise. People are entitled to their own choices and that is mine.

WoodlandMummy · 28/08/2022 14:33

All intensely farmed meat is a product of animals that have suffered extreme stress and pain. Halal meat is particularly savage but unless you catch and immediately cut off an animal’s head in one swift action, thereby limiting stress and pain, no meat reaches your plate humanely. But you’re right, Halal meat is despicably cruel.

Hmm I wonder?
