To not want to eat halal meat?

Most restaurants serve it now, especially my favourite which is Indian food. Finding it more and more difficult to find somewhere that doesn't?

No it isn’t, honestly grow up.

If accommodation is made for Sheiks to enable them to avoid virtually slaughtered meat (which I wasn't aware of before this thread) then atheists should be afforded the same respect.

i don't want to support any organised religion in my purchasing choices and so should have the choice to avoid halal and kosher meat.

Well I hope you carry that on to the shops and business you support too. How about Muslim owned businesses where the business owners will give a percentage to the charity that the mosque supports?

mumboss1984 · 28/08/2022 20:23

I am NOT a racist

Dontevenstart · 28/08/2022 20:42

All the racist arsewipes out from under their collective rock here.

MightyFishwife · 28/08/2022 20:49

Funny how many meat-eating animal rights activists emerge at the H-word 😂

Pigs jn the Uk are slaughtered via anal electrocution and submersion in boiling water. I don’t see anyone swearing off sausages…

Vegay · 28/08/2022 21:00

@MightyFishwife 'meat-eating animal rights activists' don't exist, full stop! You can't campaign for animal rights when you consume them. They have cognitive dissonance and believe 'their way' is the best for animals to be dispatched and end up on their table. Funnily enough, hunters are probably the kindest, although I don't agree with that either.

MarshaMelrose · 28/08/2022 21:05

No, they're not. 🙄 Abattoirs in the UK have strict guidance and they neither electrocute anally nor boil pigs to death.

I'd be glad to see the whole world go vegan but tripe this doesn't help anyone. It just makes you untrustworthy.

i don't want to support any organised religion in my purchasing choices and so should have the choice to avoid halal and kosher meat. you do have that choice though surely?

If you really think that your refusal to purchase halal and kosher meat is influential enough to end any "organised" (whatever that means) religion due to your lack of "support," my only suggestion would be to remove your head from your backside - to put it kindly.

To end organised religion? The poster actually wrote -

Nothing about ending a religion.

Ahsoka2001 · 28/08/2022 21:30

This thread caught my eye - I'm not a muslim but as of 2 months ago I only eat halal meat.

It's healthier and tastier (I find it's more flavorsome personally). My bosses at both my jobs are muslim, and I made a few Islamic friends at uni - including one girl who made a big impact on me (I'm male). Guess I wanted to sample some of their lifestyle and finding it really refreshing so far.

mumboss1984 · 28/08/2022 21:46

Having an opinion does not make you racist 🙄

PriamFarrl · 28/08/2022 21:51

mumboss1984 · 28/08/2022 21:46

Having an opinion does not make you racist 🙄

Well it does if that opinion is a racist opinion.

Wouldloveanother · 28/08/2022 21:57

So not wanting to eat halal meat makes you racist?

TinaTeaspoons · 28/08/2022 22:00

Wanting complete reassurance that the animal is completely stunned before eating (which is not always the case in halal) is not a racist view. This is all turning ridiculous.
People are entitled to eat what they want, prepared how they like. Many don't like the idea of halal and it's also not the case that all children eat it at school. There is a preference for both on the menu and me as a 'racist' mum always opts for non halal and no, I am not going to sit here and justify my preference because I don't have to do so. It's absolutely absurb to call out racism for someone who doesn't want to eat halal meat and there are plenty of reasons why they may not want to eat it. Not everything has to be called out as racism you know 🙄

Ahsoka2001 · 28/08/2022 22:01

And for the record, I also don't think it's racist to refuse halal meat. By that logic, I'd be a racist for only eating Halal and thus refusing to eat Kosher meat.

bottleofbeer · 28/08/2022 22:06

I haven't read all of this but ffs, understand the difference between culture and race.

HOW the animal died IS important to people.

Halal should not be default.

Vegay · 28/08/2022 22:12

Omg, I think you should all think about the differences between race, culture and religion. Ultimately, in this scenario, the animals are suffering, that only continues because you choose to carry on eating them. No healthy animal wants to fucking die, your choices make that a given though. You lot, who have autonomy, allow this to continue. I'd say you need to look at your values and morals before judging.

mumboss1984 · 28/08/2022 22:18

But it isn’t, FFS 🙄

mumboss1984 · 28/08/2022 22:21

@Wouldloveanother Apparently so, this place is absolutely laughable at times.

Wavygravy1 · 28/08/2022 22:24

FizzyTango · 28/08/2022 12:50

In order for meat to be halal there are other considerations such as better welfare and the animal must be appropriately fed and watered before it is killed as a respect to the animal's life.
Whereas in other slaughterhouses animals are starved and not given food or water when they are transported to their deaths to reduce fecal output and make them easier to gut. The last few days of an animal's life is even more cruel than the rest of it. So for me halal is preferable.
Also the clean cut for halal is swift, far preferable to being stunned.
If we eat meat produced on a mass scale, it is horribly cruel anyway so people need to stop being sanctimonious about it. Because you are just splitting hairs at this point and racial bias is probably having more of an infuence than you realise.

This.

Makes me laugh as a vegetarian how meat eaters can go on about halal slaughter being barbaric 🙄

DoNotWorryBeHappy · 28/08/2022 22:26

The vast majority of new zealand lamb in uk supermarkets is halal. (Waitrose, Tesco, Morrisons, coop etc)
If you insist on eating a slaughtered animal, halal is generally more reliably humane.
That would be more important to me...

I know! I agree. I’ve been vegetarian for years. It’s all some kind of justification.
I know that I couldn’t kill an animal, I know that l lucky to live in a situation where I have the choice not to kill an animal to live. If you think that you could kill a cow/lamb/pig then crack on.

PriamFarrl · 28/08/2022 22:54

mumboss1984 · 28/08/2022 22:18

But it isn’t, FFS 🙄

You said that ‘an opinion isn’t racist’.
I said that ‘an opinion is racist if it’s a racist one’.
I didn’t say which opinion I was referring to. It is possible for a person to have an opinion that is racist.

mumboss1984 · 28/08/2022 23:05

Yes, not this person

thefamilyupstairs · 28/08/2022 23:11

Just saying that Muslims aren't a race, they consist of many different races. The term isIslamophobic.
