Someone's following me..

I'm writing this here as I don't really know who else to speak to about it. I keep thinking maybe I'm going mad..

This morning at around 3.30am, I had an alert from my ring doorbell to movement outside of my front door. We live down a private track, so nobody would come to visit really; unless for a reason. We don't have passers by and we are a stand alone house, no neighbours.

I watched in real time as a man (?) walked up to my ring doorbell, looked straight into it, and then walked slowly away (backwards) before turning around and disappearing out of view.

Although they didn't do anything wrong as such, I feel really unnerved by this activity. My DH is away for work at the moment so it's just me in the house.

Has anybody had anything like this happen before??

Sorry - I managed to post before finishing!

The reason I wonder if someone is following me, is because today just as I got parked up at work in my usual car parking space, I saw this same man (he had distinct features) walk past the car park and disappear into a nearly shop. We caught eyes and I certainly don't know him. I only recognise him from my doorbell footage.

Am I going crazy?! 😩

No. Take the footage into your local police station and talk to them. They might recognise him if he is a local wrong ‘un and they will give you advice.

Delphigirl · 26/08/2022 10:05

And put a camera at the back of your house too, now he knows there is one at the front

Castleheights · 26/08/2022 10:06

Jeez go to the police!

Thatswhyimacat · 26/08/2022 10:09

Go to the police. He's likely scoping out houses to burgle, seeing your ring doorbell might have deterred him though.

crystalls · 26/08/2022 10:10

Yeah go to the police! Thats really odd

Pipsquiggle · 26/08/2022 10:29

Yes report to police and to security at work

Badtasteflump · 26/08/2022 10:30

I think I would have been calling the Police at 3:30 am tbh... Hope you're ok.

chillipenguin · 26/08/2022 10:32

Police now

DiddlyDoris · 26/08/2022 10:34

Definitely let the police know.

Do you have a dog at all? Or, even if not, get a recording of a beefy dogs bark, if your camera picks up anything again put the microphone on and play it (will need to be a different device to what you view Ring on). Ring cameras also have a noisy siren, but I'd choose the dog bark. May help for peace of mind at the very least I hope

Ditto, the fact that you have seen him twice, and a visit to your doorstep in the wee hours is very concerning

coconutpie · 26/08/2022 10:38

Call the police immediately.

mouettoi · 26/08/2022 10:39

Apologies for the delay in response.
I do have a dog, but she's so timid I doubt she would do anything other than roll over for tummy tickles if the man is an intruder!

I'm at work now but am on high alert!

Surely your first thought should be to contact the police rather than starting a thread on here!!

chillipenguin · 26/08/2022 10:40

Do you work in a place the public can get into. Tbh I'd speak to your manager say you need to call the police.

OopsAnotherOne · 26/08/2022 10:42

Op do you work in a setting where you are around other people? Do you ever have to spend time alone as part of your job or in a public facing role?

SunnyD44 · 26/08/2022 10:42

If he noticed the ring doorbell then I very much doubt he would risk coming back to your home.

It is probably a complete coincidence but I would report it to the police incase there have been burglaries in the area.

Did he come in a car or walk?

mouettoi · 26/08/2022 10:42

I've called the police already this morning to advise. They have been sent the footage that I have but did say they don't recognise him as anybody they have on their radar. I feel quite alone with DH not being around at the moment. Apologies for starting a thread..

Get some more cameras up to cover all the entrances to your property. Ideally you want ones that record 24/7 rather than just when there is motion, because motion detection isn't 100% reliable.

The only potential innocent explanation I can think of is that he had a legitimate reason to be going somewhere, took a wrong turn and ended up at your house by mistake. It sounds quite isolated so is probably dark, he may have been looking for the house number, trying to work out where he was.

Seeing him in the daylight could just be a coincidence. If you see him again though it becomes less and less likely each time. If you know the shop he went into, could you show them the image of the man from your doorbell and see if they recall him behaving oddly? It would be worth mentioning it to them so that they don't delete any CCTV footage they have before you get the police involved.

OP isn’t in immediate danger and the man hasn’t actually done anything wrong.
So I can see why she’d post on here first.

He could have easily been a delivery driver and went to the wrong address so didn’t knock.

comfortablyfrumpy · 26/08/2022 10:44

Don't apologise for starting this thread!

It sounds scary. Glad you have spoken with the Police
Could anyone stay with you tonight?

Azandme · 26/08/2022 10:44

The fact that the OP posted gives the answer to your, therefore unnecessary, smugly phrased question.

Did it make you feel superior?

MarsupiIami · 26/08/2022 10:44

Don't apologise!

Mamamia7962 · 26/08/2022 10:45

Why didn't you say that in your OP that you'd already contacted the police, then you wouldn't get a dozen posts with people telling you to call the police!

Mamamia7962 · 26/08/2022 10:47

Azandme - No but it makes me wonder why the OP is drip feeding.
