Someone's following me..

I'm writing this here as I don't really know who else to speak to about it. I keep thinking maybe I'm going mad..

This morning at around 3.30am, I had an alert from my ring doorbell to movement outside of my front door. We live down a private track, so nobody would come to visit really; unless for a reason. We don't have passers by and we are a stand alone house, no neighbours.

I watched in real time as a man (?) walked up to my ring doorbell, looked straight into it, and then walked slowly away (backwards) before turning around and disappearing out of view.

Although they didn't do anything wrong as such, I feel really unnerved by this activity. My DH is away for work at the moment so it's just me in the house.

Has anybody had anything like this happen before??

The reason I wonder if someone is following me, is because today just as I got parked up at work in my usual car parking space, I saw this same man (he had distinct features) walk past the car park and disappear into a nearly shop. We caught eyes and I certainly don't know him. I only recognise him from my doorbell footage.

Has he found out where you live?

CockSpadget · 26/08/2022 11:19

How did the police know it's not anyone they have on their radar? Did they cross reference the image with the hundreds of thousands of images they have on file? They need to clone which ever officer looked at the footage as they have super powers

So you called the police less than an hour ago, after receiving calls on here to do so? And they've already said this man isn't someone they know?

It's all a bit bizarre op

This.

We were burgled a few years ago and as yet no one has been out to us, the police in op's area are clearly sitting around twiddling their thumbs!!

Great minds and all that

mouettoi · 26/08/2022 11:21

I've no idea why / how their turnaround is like it is.

I've received a return email off the back of the one I sent into the station with the ring doorbell footage to advise it isn't anybody that they have on their immediate radar in the area.

Yes, I live in a very small, rural area.

I've absolutely no reason to be fabricating / making up something as unnerving as this is BlushConfused

He could have easily been a delivery driver and went to the wrong address so didn’t knock.

At 3.30am?

@CockSpadget I can completely understand that lots of people probably do. But I can assure that this isn't the case with my post.

Thanks everyone for your support with the situation, sadly it's turned into my having to defend myself and the situation so I will leave the thread here now, and in the police's hands.

I'm not living in the UK so I can't comment on the turnaround of police force assistance there.

I've called the police already this morning to advise. They have been sent the footage that I have but did say they don't recognise him as anybody they have on their radar. I feel quite alone with DH not being around at the moment. Apologies for starting a thread..

Don't apologise. Better to start the thread than do nothing! You've had some great advise from this.

GeorgiaGirl52 · 26/08/2022 11:29

Is it possible that your husband has hired someone to watch you while he is gone? To check and make sure you don't have a male overnight guest or that you do go to work?

Threelittlelambs · 26/08/2022 11:29

I disagree here - OP I believe you.

Yesterday I rang the police having found a pet and no response in SM - police said they would pop round, they did so with in 5 minutes.

Not all police forces are over stretched.

Girl, I would not sleep in my house alone if that was me. Forget the police they don't do nothing until its too late anyway. Stay somewhere else if you can.

People!
This is a place where people come for support !
No room for making her having to justify herself, in any way.

@mouettoi It’s fine to start a thread if you feel that you need the support. That is what mumsnet is for ! Stay safe X

Likewise - I believe OP. I'm in SW England and am taking a stalker to Crown Court. My stalker came onto a street that he is not allowed to due to his bail conditions and I sent OIC a photo I'd taken of him via email, I received a reply within 20 minutes. Same officer then phoned me a further 10 minutes later to check I'd seen his email. I was in no way expecting the response to be so fast but it does happen.
Also I don't know how people can troll OP based on UK Police response times when the OP has made it clear they aren't from the UK?

mumda · 26/08/2022 11:32

You can always ring the non emergency police number and report suspicious behaviour. Some forces allow you to do this via webchat.

whynotwhatknot · 26/08/2022 11:33

also helpful if you say your not in the uk as we won't know procedure

HardRockOwl · 26/08/2022 11:33

@OopsAnotherOne yeah you're right. She did make that clear. 5 minutes ago.

chillipenguin · 26/08/2022 11:35

SunnyD44 · 26/08/2022 10:44

Surely your first thought should be to contact the police rather than starting a thread on here!!

OP isn’t in immediate danger and the man hasn’t actually done anything wrong.
So I can see why she’d post on here first.

He could have easily been a delivery driver and went to the wrong address so didn’t knock.

At 330am?
