Someone's following me..

I'm writing this here as I don't really know who else to speak to about it. I keep thinking maybe I'm going mad..

This morning at around 3.30am, I had an alert from my ring doorbell to movement outside of my front door. We live down a private track, so nobody would come to visit really; unless for a reason. We don't have passers by and we are a stand alone house, no neighbours.

I watched in real time as a man (?) walked up to my ring doorbell, looked straight into it, and then walked slowly away (backwards) before turning around and disappearing out of view.

Although they didn't do anything wrong as such, I feel really unnerved by this activity. My DH is away for work at the moment so it's just me in the house.

Has anybody had anything like this happen before??

Don't turn off all the lights at night. Leave a light on in the bathroom , hallway , downstairs living room with curtains drawn but a. bit of light so it looks like there are a lot of people at home.

If someone rings the doorbell at night, don't open the door !

I think posters automatically assume troll on threads like these because so, so many threads on aibu are trolls, or journos, that statistically OP possibly is one. I personally wish MN would get rid of aibu because no one ever uses it as it was intended.

Sorry, no particular advice OP, but I would consider staying at a friend's or a hotel until your dh is back. I would think the intruder was definitely some kind of would-be burglar, although the man you saw after could be a completely different man to the one you saw in the dark. The mind can play strange tricks when you're stressed or paranoid.

I think I’ve just worked it out!

It’s an electricy employees tasked with increasing usage to up the companies profits!

I've just gone to the car to grab my laptop charger for work and have found a crumpled up letter placed under my windscreen wiper.

I'm just trying to rationalise with myself that this just be a strange coincidence. I need to translate it when I'm back in the office as I speak barely any French. I'm lucky enough to work for an English company whilst being out here, mainly from home but with the occasional office working requirement for meetings.

This can't be serious.

I'm beginning to think this is one big wind-up joke. This kind of thing surely doesn't happen in real life Sad

This is worrying. I speak french, I can translate it for you. Is it possible for you to post a pic of the letter at all?

I'm fluent in French if you'd like any help translating it, OP.

Leafy3 · 26/08/2022 12:27

Or there's Google translate, op, if you don't want to share the letter here before translating.

OopsAnotherOne · 26/08/2022 12:30

Okay OP - obvious first step is to translate the letter, but it's starting to seem that this isn't a coincidence and you are being followed. Once you've translated the letter, I'd immediately contact the police again with your update

Can you post it on here as there’s lots of people who speak French.

Again it could be a complete coincidence. But I’d still report it.

Marotte · 26/08/2022 12:32

I presume the police there speak French, so why not just take the letter to the Police rather than faffing trying to translate it, and explain that you are genuinely still concerned for your safety. It's not normal to be skulking around someone's house down a track in the middle of the night, and if it was completely innocent, then the man can explain how it came to be, then, if questioned? I'd go and stay at a hotel for a few days if it were me.

I wouldn't it could be evidence

I'd get that deleted op

mouettoi · 26/08/2022 12:34

Oh god I didn't even think it could be a problem posting online. I will try to have it removed. Thank you

I translated that and it gave me chills. Call the police.

Wildflowercottage · 26/08/2022 12:35

OP, go to the police and if they dismiss you in any way, stick up an almighty fuss. I wouldn't be going home if I had received that letter, I'd be booking straight into a hotel or if that's not possible, I'd be asking a bunch of my friends round for an impromptu sleepover.

I'm so sorry this is happening to you.

I would definitely report to the police and stay with a friend or in a hotel tonight just so you can sleep easier.

CockSpadget · 26/08/2022 12:36

Oh ffs 😂😂

I'm fluent in French if you'd like any help translating it, OP.

If you're fluent in French, is the phrase "je peux te voir tout le temps" written in the way a French person would write, or is it an English person writing in French using Google translate? That might help OP narrow down how this person knows her name

Wildflowercottage · 26/08/2022 12:38

CockSpadget · 26/08/2022 12:36

Oh ffs 😂😂

If you don't believe this thread is true, then just report to MNHQ and they'll have a look. On the off chance this is entirely true, then comments such as your one aren't going to help OP in the slightest.

CockSpadget · 26/08/2022 12:36

It's against the rules to troll hunt. If you don't believe in it then report the thread.
