Someone's following me..

I'm writing this here as I don't really know who else to speak to about it. I keep thinking maybe I'm going mad..

This morning at around 3.30am, I had an alert from my ring doorbell to movement outside of my front door. We live down a private track, so nobody would come to visit really; unless for a reason. We don't have passers by and we are a stand alone house, no neighbours.

I watched in real time as a man (?) walked up to my ring doorbell, looked straight into it, and then walked slowly away (backwards) before turning around and disappearing out of view.

Although they didn't do anything wrong as such, I feel really unnerved by this activity. My DH is away for work at the moment so it's just me in the house.

Has anybody had anything like this happen before??

@SunnyD44
I wouldn’t say that message is from a French person as it doesn’t make much sense.
But if they’re English, they can’t know you are English.

Or they want her to think they're French as part of the subterfuge. They know her name, after all. It does sounds odd, though - I reckon it was written by an English speaker and it's someone connected with OP's workplace.

The note looks like a woman's writing.

@CockSpadget
Please see my below message..

Why go back to the office to translate it? Why not just use the device you are already typing on.

Why are you gagging to discredit this poster rather than just reporting the thread and moving on with your day? What is wrong with you?

The note looks like a woman's writing.

Not necessarily, we're all taught cursive and other styles from a very young age and it's the only way the majority of us write even when older as we're used to it. Most of my male friends have very "feminine" writing.

mouettoi · 26/08/2022 13:02

I was only popping out to my car to grab my laptop charging cable so of course I was going back into the office straight away.

If I'd had a message left on my car, in the circumstances described, I would have translated it there and then on the device I was using. Rather than wait another several days or so to go into my office.

Brigante9 · 26/08/2022 13:03

Please go back to the police asap. That’s very worrying.

You have absolutely no idea how you would react under the circumstances so piss off. Report if you think its fake but you're just coming across as a bit of a twat now.

I don't understand what you're trying to imply. I went to the car, took out my charging cable for the laptop.
Locked the car and I spotted a crumpled up piece of paper under my windscreen wiper.

When I got back into the office and noticed that people had kindly offered to translate it for me I sent a picture to this thread. That's all that's happened.

It did not look like a French person's handwriting.

Hi all, we just wanted to remind everyone that we don't allow troll hunting on the boards. But you typed on here before you got back to the office, just confused as to why you wouldn't just translate it?

mouettoi · 26/08/2022 13:15

To be honest I can understand why you may find that strange. I am in a state of shock and I'm obviously scared. It wasn't my first thought.

OP ignore the person whos doubting you. You need to tell us what steps you're taking to stay safe!!
Also, are you colleagues helping you?

SunnyD44 · 26/08/2022 13:16

If I had a note under my windscreen I wouldn’t just stand there translating it with my phone.
I’d get back inside and sit down and do it.

I've shown a colleague the note, but I don't know her very well. I don't have much of a relationship with my colleagues as I'm often WFH. She said it looks like feminine handwriting.

Seriously don't sweat it. You have bigger things to worry about right now. Take care. I hope it is all resolved for you soon. Don't worry about updating mumsnet or anything if you don't want to. This is your life.

Same, certainly if I was already freaked out. For all I know the person who put it there is anticipating that I'd stand around translating it and would think me distracted enough to do something else.

mouettoi · 26/08/2022 13:18

I also didn't want to stand there for any longer than I had to in case anybody was watching me.
I wrote on here whilst walking back across the road to my office.

Apologies I didn't do it the right way around.

Exactly, I'd be trying not to look spooked and just go back inside where, hopefully, they couldn't see me
