If you were given £50 to cheer yourself up, what would you buy?

My lovely brother has transferred £50 into my account to treat myself to something after I had a little cry on the phone to him this morning.

Feeling really stumped though as I don’t think I’ve spent money on myself since my first baby was born 8 years ago! I’m determined to treat myself though. Just looking for some inspiration!

I'd buy a handbag I'm not into designer but I love a bag so that is what I'd buy or perfume if I was in the mood at the time.

Snowiscold · 25/08/2022 18:02

a haircut/style?

Hoolahulahoop · 25/08/2022 18:03

That's so so kind. Maybe this time of year a nice Mac you could wear loads.

Or a pair of boots

Whatsthestoryboringglory · 25/08/2022 18:03

A bottle of lovely perfume. Lasts for ages, and you will think of the gift every time you wear it. It’s a real indulgence, and I can’t justify the expensive stuff currently (I buy the little bottles from Next which as less than a tenner).

DurhamDurham · 25/08/2022 18:05

Perfume
Boots
Expensive chocolates
Expensive coffee
Some new books.

How lovely of your brother Smile

Lazycatx · 25/08/2022 18:05

I'd see if I could top it up a little and buy a kindle.

You can buy a kids kindle right now for £55. They are no different to adult kindles and come with a case. Just register to adult account.

I've read more than 20 books since getting my kids kindle. There are feee books available and if you have Prime there are a limited number of free books that way.

I've signed up to bookbub for notifications when books in genres I like are cheap. 99p cheap.

Oh I'm terrible at thinking of stuff like that! Probably some nice chocolates and wine if I can get an evening to myself to watch TV and/or have a bath. Or a massage? There's no 'things' that would do it for me, so it would be on something to make me feel better iyswim.

ShhDoNotTell · 25/08/2022 18:08

A book, some really lovely chocolate, and some luxe skincare or bubble bath. Enjoy!

Mayflower18 · 25/08/2022 18:10

I’d have my nails and eyebrows done - maybe a bottle of wine if I had enough left!

How sweet of your brother. I hope you’re ok.

Jumpking · 25/08/2022 18:11

I'd go for a massage.

What a lovely brother you have

chouxpetitfilous · 25/08/2022 18:11

Books, some bath bombs and nice body lotion.

Jumpking · 25/08/2022 18:11

Or to the theatre.

belliniqueen · 25/08/2022 18:12

A nice facial

GoneWithTheWine1 · 25/08/2022 18:12

Books, and a fluffy blanket.

RayKray · 25/08/2022 18:13

A curry

Truthlikeness · 25/08/2022 18:13

Books and maybe some art supplies.

StridTheKiller · 25/08/2022 18:15

A Kuddly (knock off Oodie but better). Like he's sending a big warm cuddle everytime you wear it.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 25/08/2022 18:21

I'd either have a beauty treatment (massage or facial), or more likely but some new makeup as I'd enjoy it for longer.

10HailMarys · 25/08/2022 18:24

What a lovely brother!

I think with £50 that was specifically to cheer myself, I'd probably go for a nice frivolous luxury like perfume or some gorgeous make-up. Or I'd treat myself to a day/evening out. My work sometimes gives out £50 gift cards as part of our reward scheme, and before the pandemic I spent one on a last-minute ticket for a matinee performance of something I wanted to see at the theatre and took myself off for a solo afternoon out.

Another time, when I was really struggling with depression, I had a small unexpected windfall of around the same amount, and my DP said 'Why don't you book a day off work and get the train somewhere nice with it?' So I bought a £30 train ticket to a lovely historic tourist city that's about 90 minutes from where I live, had a nice stroll around looking at the sights, and then went into a nice cafe and read my book while I had a cream tea. Best money I've ever spent!

AnnaFri · 25/08/2022 18:24

Get my waxing done

Not much you can get with £50 these days unfortunately

Treabrea · 25/08/2022 18:25

Either a massage, bottle of wine, chocs and a magazine/cheap book or new PJ's, slippers, hot water bottle.

What a lovely thing to do
