If you were given £50 to cheer yourself up, what would you buy?

My lovely brother has transferred £50 into my account to treat myself to something after I had a little cry on the phone to him this morning.

Feeling really stumped though as I don’t think I’ve spent money on myself since my first baby was born 8 years ago! I’m determined to treat myself though. Just looking for some inspiration!

A manicure, some really good cheese, and some cheap flowers (I got some stunning gladioli for £2 at the supermarket the other day and they lasted 2 weeks!).

FinallyHere · 25/08/2022 19:16

I'd keep it available and gloat inwardly.

Even write a list of things I might like.

Work out the priority order, what I might like most at the top. Update it a couple of times a day, changing my mind about what most appeals.

At some point, something will 'jump up at me' and then I'll have the £50 available to pounce. Oddly enough, I never seem to see things when I have money to satisfy any desire. Having the money seems to take away that desire.

Til something really special appears. It's great to know I have the wherewithal to satisfy any desire.

Lovely brother.

I’d splurge the lot in the garden centre or book shop.

Your brother is a lovely wee star.

rumred · 25/08/2022 19:18

Power tools. Cheese. Good loose tea

Namechangedforspooky · 25/08/2022 19:18

A little craft course (silver making or glass fusing would be in budget where I am)
or a massage or facial
Or get my cards read
meal out with friends

i could spend it over and over! Hope you find something you like

meow1989 · 25/08/2022 19:20

What a lovely brother!

I'd buy some of the following:

A face mask
A foot peel thing (like footner)
New gel colours (or varnish if you don't have a kit)
A succulent
A little bottle of wine or prosecco
A nice print from etsy (and a willow frame to pop it in)
Some bath salts
A nice dinner

ButEmilylovedhim · 25/08/2022 19:21

A cheesecake, bottle of wine and a pile of books! How nice! Hope everything is better with you soon xx

MummaB22 · 25/08/2022 19:22

Kheils skin care! Love it so much! X

gingericecream · 25/08/2022 19:23

I got given a £30 Amazon voucher recently and I bought a kitchen knife. Mine are crap and things like that I buy cheap to budget so it was a nice indulgence and I use it most days

itsnotmeitisactuallyyou · 25/08/2022 19:26

What a lovely kind bro. A new jacket or boots for winter?

Manekinek0 · 25/08/2022 19:26

I'm a bit boring and very practical but I would want to buy something that would last. So I'd put it to a nice winter coat or boots if I needed them. Or maybe a new dressing gown as mine is tatty. My DH bought me a beautiful coat a few years back and it still makes me smile when I put it on.

GetOffTheRoof · 25/08/2022 19:27

Go to Lidl. Buy some flowers (they last forever from there).

Pick out food things you'd not buy - a nice crusty loaf, garlic cheese, hams, prawn cocktail, whatever you like and make sure it's all things your kids won't eat 😂 Maybe pop some nice bits into the freezer - ice cream or something savoury like garlic bread - whatever you enjoy and will last longer than a few minutes.

Any leftover money, use on something you'd like but don't buy - a new mascara, nail polish, nice moisturiser etc. Eke it all out for longer term treats.

GingerAndLemonn · 25/08/2022 19:28

Lovely suggestions! It’s like my brain had left my body and I can’t come up with anything 🤣

I don’t really wear makeup so that wouldn’t be a treat for me
Clothes upset me too much atm as I’m so hideously fat.
Alcohol I don’t drink and I’m trying ti lose weight so no food or choccy!
We have lovely kitchen equipment already as my husband is a chef.

Think I’m going to just save it and if I see anything whilst out and about I think ooooh! Then I will buy it :)

Personally I'm a Popsy dress addict so I'd get something from there, and I always feel a bit special when I'm wearing nail wraps (I use oh my gosh nails) which you could get with the remaining cash!

MuddlerInLaw · 25/08/2022 19:31

May we ask why no money has been spent on you for eight years? You obviously have at least one income in the household - is there never anything left for you?

HesterShaw1 · 25/08/2022 19:32

A massage or a facial or a nice haircut

What a lovely brother 😍

FlipFlopShopInHawaii · 25/08/2022 19:32

I'd get my nails done, mani & pedi if I could stretch to that. But definitely nice finger nails always make me cheer up. 💅

Yeah! I just like buying things for the kids.

Oh how lovely of your brother and sorry to hear you've been feeling down!
Do you have a hobby? I'd spend it on yarn or paints or a nice colouring book!
I hope you find the perfect thing for it ☺️

labazslovesliving · 25/08/2022 19:34

flowers books or an expensive magazine and nice chocolates

GingerAndLemonn · 25/08/2022 19:35

"Clothes upset me too much atm as I’m so hideously fat."

Fat does not=hideous. Get DH to help if you want to lose weight.

I'd get something that will last a while, & perfume would seem to be a good bet.

Cervinia · 25/08/2022 19:36

Yes to a handbag, I just googled leather handbag fifty pounds as I wasn’t convinced you could get one and you definitely can. Can’t beat a nice bag and they last for years.

sophs29 · 25/08/2022 19:36

Sounds similar to me @GingerAndLemonn I have many hobbies but no time to actually partake in said hobbies 😂 maybe you should look into something you could take up and spend the money on that?

MuddlerInLaw · 25/08/2022 19:39

Perhaps, OP, you could write a thriller about a husband so driven to succeed as a chef that he feeds up his wife to the extent that she stops buying clothes or spending money on anything but their children. Thus leaving him with most of their income free to lavish on his beloved kitchen.

There’s a patio in the story …
