If you were given £50 to cheer yourself up, what would you buy?

My lovely brother has transferred £50 into my account to treat myself to something after I had a little cry on the phone to him this morning.

Feeling really stumped though as I don’t think I’ve spent money on myself since my first baby was born 8 years ago! I’m determined to treat myself though. Just looking for some inspiration!

What a nice brother you have.

I would buy some bulbs to plant for spring.

If you got yourself a jigsaw would you be able to keep it to enjoy yourself or would the rest of the family insist on joining in?

Books obviously

Haircut that isn't at super cuts!

mac1974 · 25/08/2022 19:43

I love Jo malone bath rose bath oil. A small bottle is about £20 and lasts ages. Then I'd get a nice bottle of wine, some yummy snacks, maybe a book/pjs

Wishyfishy · 25/08/2022 19:44

A few books and then I’d go and sit in a coffee shop for the morning ordering tea and cakes and not go home until I’d finished at least one book.

Perhaps, OP, you could write a thriller about a husband so driven to succeed as a chef that he feeds up his wife to the extent that she stops buying clothes or spending money on anything but their children. Thus leaving him with most of their income free to lavish on his beloved kitchen.

There’s a patio in the story …

Wtf?

face cream / a book / maybe my favorite perfume or a second hand dress from vinted.

CarrieMoonbeams · 25/08/2022 19:57

Aww what a lovely brother!

I'd buy a lovely Teddy fleece throw from Dunelm (the biggest one is £22), some fluffy socks from Joules (some are on sale just now for £2, down from £8), a good book and a nice hand cream, preferably Molton Brown, and a plant for the garden.

QueenImprov · 25/08/2022 19:58

A nice coatigan/light coat that will update wardrobe.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 25/08/2022 19:58

Definitely perfume. I would get a lovely memory of it being given to me as a kind gesture when I needed it and it would uplift me every time I wore it.

A massage and a takeaway

JhsLs · 25/08/2022 20:14

Shellac manicure pedicure

Itstrueiagree · 25/08/2022 20:20

Jeans, shoes or boots. Pair of earrings or a watch.

category12 · 25/08/2022 20:21

Books

GingerAndLemonn · 25/08/2022 20:21

I’ve just signed up for an exercise class I’ve been wanting to go to for about 2 years :)

Now where can I buy the confidence to actually go?!

Keladrythesaviour · 25/08/2022 21:08

I'd have my toes and fingernails done with shellac.

JuvenileEmu · 25/08/2022 21:28

My favourite takeaway, a bottle of wine and a book

EndersGame · 25/08/2022 21:41

That's really nice. I'd probably go for a massive takeaway and a nice bottle of plonk.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 25/08/2022 21:51

Well done on signing up for the exercise class. Don't worry, you'll be fine. Everyone is just focused on themselves. I hope you enjoy it.

Your brother sounds lovely.

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/08/2022 22:17

The train ticket for a day trip is a lovely idea, but if you want a thing -

Earrings - nice hoops that I could wear everyday

A colourful cushion that would cheer me up when I saw it, or a print, or a big houseplant

A cheery scarf for winter

A haircut

Go dutch on a jolly lunch with a friend

Luredbyapomegranate · 25/08/2022 22:19

Excellent idea. Pack your stuff this weekend so you have no accidental on purpose leggings loss, and then just go.

Think about how proud you will be when you do, and how pleased your bro will be. You can’t waste his cash!

MiracleBaby2022 · 25/08/2022 22:20

A massage - without doubt! 👌🏼

Hawkins001 · 25/08/2022 22:21

Gas and electricity, £20/£20
Then a kebab and chips from the chippy,
And if any change left over a loaf of bread

NellesVilla · 25/08/2022 22:30

A facial or bag of gorgeous bits from M & S. Or facial at local beauty college, takeaway and a little put away for a rainy day/when you see something else you fancy.

housepilot · 25/08/2022 22:33

Garden plants. Then I'd plant them and enjoy them growing and flourishing.

HeyMicky · 25/08/2022 22:36

Some cheery posh woollen socks. Practical, cheerful and luxurious
