If you were given £50 to cheer yourself up, what would you buy?

My lovely brother has transferred £50 into my account to treat myself to something after I had a little cry on the phone to him this morning.

Feeling really stumped though as I don’t think I’ve spent money on myself since my first baby was born 8 years ago! I’m determined to treat myself though. Just looking for some inspiration!

Books! Oh how I love books

mumlife124 · 25/08/2022 22:50

Books and wool for my crochet addiction

FinallyHere · 25/08/2022 23:04

Now where can I buy the confidence to actually go?!

@GingerAndLemonn

Here you go, lovely. You have so got this. You will simply not question yourself at all, you will just get yourself there and do it.

You won't compare yourself to anyone else, you won't worry whether you are doing it 'right'. You will just do it.

Two years later, you will hardly be able to believe how far you have come. It will spark all sorts of positive benefits.

You have got this. Enjoy.

I would get perfume & a handbag. Superdrug have lovely dupe perfumes, my favourite is Exotic. A handbag from River Island. Or handbag from Primark & some beauty bits as well face mask etc. Hope you have better day tomorrow.

I must spoil myself so much as I'd have no problem spending it 😂
Some essential oils
Candles (the woodwick ones are so comforting)
Book
Fleecy blanket

What a lovely brother!

I think with £50 that was specifically to cheer myself, I'd probably go for a nice frivolous luxury like perfume or some gorgeous make-up. Or I'd treat myself to a day/evening out. My work sometimes gives out £50 gift cards as part of our reward scheme, and before the pandemic I spent one on a last-minute ticket for a matinee performance of something I wanted to see at the theatre and took myself off for a solo afternoon out.

Another time, when I was really struggling with depression, I had a small unexpected windfall of around the same amount, and my DP said 'Why don't you book a day off work and get the train somewhere nice with it?' So I bought a £30 train ticket to a lovely historic tourist city that's about 90 minutes from where I live, had a nice stroll around looking at the sights, and then went into a nice cafe and read my book while I had a cream tea. Best money I've ever spent!

That sounds beautiful
We should all do something like this regularly

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 25/08/2022 23:17

What a lovely thing to do!

I would get a gel manicure/pedicure

BustPipes · 25/08/2022 23:18

You have a lovely brother OP.

Just in case you've not already spent it on exercise classes - I would also say perfume. I live in jeans, t shirts and hoodies, and am overweight, and am not bothered about looks, style, clothes, waxing etc. Just not important to me. But I wear nice perfume every day, and really enjoy (wrong word, but I can't think of a better one) it.

chocolateoranges33 · 25/08/2022 23:19

Some magnetic lashes!

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 25/08/2022 23:20

Flowers. I'd get £7-8 pounds worth every week and keep going for half a term. And it would KEEP THEM IN MY BEDROOM FOR ONLY ME TO LOOK AT. But I'm pissed. Maybe that's not a good plan.

thegcatsmother · 25/08/2022 23:20

A magazine subscription so you get a treat each month?

ihatebojo · 25/08/2022 23:21

Sex toys

SuperCamp · 25/08/2022 23:26

Train ticket to the seaside. Swim in the sea, cafe lunch overlooking the sea, another swim, coffee and cake. Mini bottle of wine from the M&S on the station for the journey home. Magazine.

I'd see if I could top it up a little and buy a kindle.

You can buy a kids kindle right now for £55. They are no different to adult kindles and come with a case. Just register to adult account.

I've read more than 20 books since getting my kids kindle. There are feee books available and if you have Prime there are a limited number of free books that way.

I've signed up to bookbub for notifications when books in genres I like are cheap. 99p cheap.

If you get a kindle fire then you can use your library to get books. If you like audiobooks you can use BorrowBox as well.

This is a good plan. The sea is quite warm right now. On the south coast this is partly because of the sewage but it's worth it.

A kWh of gas. Joke…a facial.

bumbledeedum · 26/08/2022 00:08

DP's lovely mum bought me a sheepskin rug last year when and it's the most wonderful feeling getting in and out of bed onto this fluffy cloud, makes me smile and feel every indulgent every time. So that'd be my vote

scrivette · 26/08/2022 00:11

I would want to buy a fountain pen and a beautiful notebook, or a bracelet, however I love the idea of a day trip to myself after a PP suggested it.

MarthaChuzzlewhit · 26/08/2022 00:12

Massage and some spa time if it will stretch to that,

Wishingwell2022 · 26/08/2022 00:13

Massage.

Or, I’ve recently discovered Molton Brown Milk Musk shower gel. 🥰 Makes me feel (and smell) amazing first thing, and all day!

thecrispfiend · 26/08/2022 00:17

An electric blanket!

Mumspair1 · 26/08/2022 00:29

I would probably go for a nice coat but I'm not sure you can get much for that. A good haircut would be my next choice.

mathanxiety · 26/08/2022 00:32

A pedicure.

Cas112 · 26/08/2022 00:35

Perfume

Need2P · 26/08/2022 00:37

I would have my hair done. Always feel better after having it done.
