To think it's not unusual for a woman to have size 42+ feet ...

... and yet so many shoe ranges only go up to a size 41! Why is that? I've had problems buying shoes ever since my early teens. I rarely own more than 2 pairs at any one time, because finding shoes that I like, and which fit, is so difficult. If size 42 (or more) isn't unusual, then there must be a big untapped market out there.

42/43 here. Drives me nuts too when they call a 41 an 8. DD is 43/44.

SheeWeee · 16/08/2022 18:21

It's not unusual but its not a very common size. But I don't know where you're shopping because I see 42's in every shop.
I'm 41 and have the biggest size of the women in my family and friends.

FuzzyPuffling · 16/08/2022 18:21

Size 42 here. Fed up with black toenails from wearing too-small shoes that claim to be an 8.

Phineyj · 16/08/2022 18:22

I think the ones that do, clean up! Hotter are good, and Decathlon for trainers.

LewisLittUp · 16/08/2022 18:22

Size 9 EEE here, the only place I can get shoes to fit are Evans or Simply Be and the branches nearest to me have closed down. I hate shoe shopping. I wear my shoes until they fall apart and need replacing.

I wish I could wear all the lovely shoes and cool trainers but I can't. Much prefer a handbag, handbags don't care what size you are!

bellac11 · 16/08/2022 18:23

I would have thought it is quite unusual in that its outside the average size for most women.

Calling a 41 an 8 really annoys me as well. It has caused me to send shoes back at great expense.

I see "8's" in every online shop, but they are usually a 41, not a 42.

If they do sell 42's they are often sold out. ☹️

I didn't realise women could wear a size 8!

Clymene · 16/08/2022 18:24

It is pretty unusual. I used to have tiny feet pre children (3) and that was just as hard

A size 42+ is hardly unusual 😂😂

But of course the teeny tiny brigade have arrived. Didn't take long.

I'm a 41-42 which is only a 7. Very normal, yet I struggled to buy shoes in the 90s.

If anyone wants fun party / wedding shoes, look at Irregular Choice - they go up to 46 (UK 11) in lots of their designs.

FuzzyPuffling · 16/08/2022 18:28

Have you considered wearing men's shoes?

No, me neither. I may have big feet but I'm still a woman and would like to wear what other women wear, thank you very much

But they sell out so quickly! Always the first size to sell out because they make fewer of them.

I've been a size 8 since early my early teens (1970s) and it was terrible then for choice. There is a lot more choice now but I agree that there is not enough. Women are getting taller so will naturally have bigger feet. It is very annoying that some places call a 41 a size 8. Our local M&S never had large sizes even though they were available in other branches. The M&S has closed down now anyway.

Wouldloveanother · 16/08/2022 18:29

What is this U.K. size?

DelphiniumBlue · 16/08/2022 18:30

I think it is fairly unusual for women to have a shoe size of 42+, I don't know anyone who has bigger than a 40/41. But I am in my 60's and possibly people these days are taller and larger footed? I have sons who have size 13 (48?) feet, which is larger than I anticipated possible! I used to marvel over my male cousin's size 11, much bigger than his father's, as are my sons' feet.
I do sympathise as I know how hard it is to find non-standard size shoes.

As a teenager used to return from shoe shopping trips close to tears when sales assistants directed me to the mens dept. No! I want to wear shoes that I like!

I'm 5'8"" and my size 42 feet are in proportion with my height. Many women are taller and have bigger feet.

80% of M&S customers are under 5'5 (so they said when I worked there) so 80% probably also have size 6 or smaller feet.

How would they know??

Wouldloveanother · 16/08/2022 18:32

I know a few women who wear size 8. Weirdly they’re not even that tall! I am tall but a size 6

bricka · 16/08/2022 18:33

Wouldloveanother · 16/08/2022 18:29

What is this U.K. size?

Well, that depends on the manufacturer. Some say its an 8 and others an 8.5/9. I don't care which it is, but a 41 doesn't fit.

Phrenologistsfinger · 16/08/2022 18:33

Also 5’8” and a 42!

Phrenologistsfinger · 16/08/2022 18:34

And I’m not unusual amongst my friends…40ish.
