To think it's not unusual for a woman to have size 42+ feet ...

... and yet so many shoe ranges only go up to a size 41! Why is that? I've had problems buying shoes ever since my early teens. I rarely own more than 2 pairs at any one time, because finding shoes that I like, and which fit, is so difficult. If size 42 (or more) isn't unusual, then there must be a big untapped market out there.

I didn’t realise 8 was unusual, I’m size 8 and my mum and sister are as well so maybe that’s why I didn’t realise it was so unusual, my daughter is 11 and is also a size 8 😣 I do envy those with small feet! I’m not tall either I’m 5 ft 4

I think the ones that do, clean up! Hotter are good, and Decathlon for trainers.

hotter get up my nose because they say their shoes are wider fitting and they are NOT. The used to be....I have got old hotters that fit me well but the new ones are narrow even though they say they are wide.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 16/08/2022 18:46

Dd is an 8 at best but only if they're wide, she's a 9 or 10 really. No idea what that is in EU sizes other than over 42!

MrsHamlet · 16/08/2022 18:47

42 here. Most of the shoes I buy these days come from Europe or Canada (size 11 or 12.5)

I'm 5ft 8 and wear a 42. My pet hate is when you ask a shop assistant for a size 8 and they bring you a 7 suggesting you try them!

Yes! I have been known to ask for a knife and some bandages.

I didn't realise women could wear a size 8!

🙄 the exclamation at the end to show your shock too.

So you didn't realise tall women could possibly have size 8 + feet?

AperolWhore · 16/08/2022 18:49

I’m a 42 and don’t struggle, even Louboutins come in a 42. My go to are next for smart shoes, very and primark for dress shoes and Loubs or YSL for designer.

I do agree it’s annoying when they class 41 as an 8 though!

BestIsWest · 16/08/2022 18:49

Yes, thank god for the internet. Trawling round shops trying to find black school shoes for DD, size 9 and extra wide was a nightmare. Thank God her school allowed Vans back in the day.

stayinghometoday · 16/08/2022 18:49

I wonder where transwomen buy their shoes? Surely having size 42 or 43 must be pretty usual among transwomen?

TheWitchersWife · 16/08/2022 18:50

Size 43 here.
And yes, agree with PP, a size 41 is NOT a size 8.

Antarcticant · 16/08/2022 18:50

Foot sizes have increased a lot in the last 50 years. The average used to be a 4. It's 6 now - so if 6 is average it's likely an increasing number will be wearing 8+. In a few more decades, that might be the average. My mum and MIL in their late 70s-80s both wear a 3, my mum sometimes a 2 - I don't know anyone of my age with feet that small.

VerifiedBot2351 · 16/08/2022 18:51

I’m a size eight. I haven’t worn ‘girly’ shoes ever as I can’t get any that fit. I spend my life in Doc Martens or Skechers. I feel so envious of ladies wearing heels.

Rowgtfc72 · 16/08/2022 18:53

Dd is 15 and been a size 9 for about 3 years. Try buying black lace up suitable for school!

When she was an 8 and desperate for some primark boots they told us when they order a particular shoe in they only get one pair of size 8 per week.

I can recommend a Canadian brand which comes in larger sizes... but they're pricey and have to be imported.

Summergarden · 16/08/2022 18:56

Try Pavers as they have quite a wide selection in size 9 as well as size 8.

You haven’t been able to find size 8 heels? I own loads

I think it is fairly unusual for women to have a shoe size of 42+, I don't know anyone who has bigger than a 40/41. But I am in my 60's and possibly people these days are taller and larger footed? I have sons who have size 13 (48?) feet, which is larger than I anticipated possible! I used to marvel over my male cousin's size 11, much bigger than his father's, as are my sons' feet.
I do sympathise as I know how hard it is to find non-standard size shoes.

It’s not unusual. I have quite a number of friends with size 8 feet. Always been difficult to get shoes in my size and is something we all bemoan.

Summergarden · 16/08/2022 18:56

Pavers are the worst. Their size 8 is a 41 so too small for 42 sized feet and very few styles go up to 42 in women’s shoes.

FuzzyPuffling · 16/08/2022 19:01

I'm in my 60s.
( And am still 5'8" with size 42 feet. Can't blame that on being young!)

bcc89 · 16/08/2022 19:04

I have not once had trouble finding a size 3 shoe.

iamaLeafontheWind · 16/08/2022 19:04

Joining in. I also hate when the sizes online go up to 42 & 43 & give you hope - but there’s no stock, ever.
20 years ago Clark’s recommended to get in early on the Friday for their deliveries to claim the one pair of eights in each style they got.

bcc89 · 16/08/2022 19:04

My quote didn't even work - it was someone saying small feet (specifically size 3) are equally hard to find!

Omemiserum · 16/08/2022 19:07

Size 43-44 EE here.
Try Next, Magnus shoes, After 8 shoes, Marisota, Long Tall Sally , Evans

lampygirl · 16/08/2022 19:08

Solidarity OP. 42 and 5’8. I will never ever get a job where I would have to wear smart shoes on the regular because it’s too hard work! Trainers and (mens) steel toes here, but it is limiting when you have to go to a wedding/party and it’s summer and not boots weather or informal enough for Birkenstocks and the like.
