Has anyone seen the recent tweet about her pawning/selling three diamond engagement rings? Aibu to think if you are pleading poverty and asking the general public to donate money one week and then showing off pictures of three massive diamonds you own the next, it's never going to go down well? Especially when you are already being challenged on lying and grifting?

For a long time I thought JM was nothing but a force of a good but I can't understand how she can be so tone deaf. It can't be deliberate but equally how can she not realise how it looks to produce three huge rings just a week after claiming she's so skint she needs handouts.

Apologies if there's already a thread on this.

why does she not want people to know her real name/identity?
im confused

JubileeTrifle · 28/08/2022 20:27

Well if you search her original last name and Southend it brings up information about her grandads massive estate, her parents building a. £30k extension. Doesn’t fit with the ‘I grew up in poverty’ origin story.
Im sure she has a different explanation though.

She's tweeted someone suggesting that they spend less time on Twitter...

“Introducing...David Hadjicostas MBE - Essex County Fire & Rescue Service

I have been married to Evelyn, from Belfast, for 25 years and we have 4 children, Yannis, Tommy, Melissa (Jack) and Jessica, and a grandson, Jonathon.

When I am not at work I spend as much time as I can with Evelyn and the children. Going to the Park, roller skating, eating out, swimming, holidays at home and abroad, reading, playing, having fun, even watching Star Trek TOS reruns and playing Wii Just Dance !!….. They say that life is what happens while you are waiting for something to happen. Not on my Watch!!”

hmmm, eating out and going on holidays at home and abroad at the exact same time as living in grinding poverty..?

She threatened to sue someone who referred to her as Melissa on Twitter or some other form of social media.

Am I right in thinking that Katie Hopkins had to sell her house to pay her off? I am too tired to research it! But it rings a bell.

JubileeTrifle · 28/08/2022 22:47

Yes it was the court costs that made her lose her house, not the money from the ruling (£20-£30k?).
The case against KH was a slam dunk. Mistaken identity, she refused to back down and then didn’t even show up to court. Jack now uses this to show she can sue anyone at anytime and win. Not true.
I imagine the legal team took it on because it was an easy win and knew KH had cash. This won’t be true of most of the people she threatens.
she can’t go to court as all the truth about her income will come out.

Deadnaming? This is quite an old article where she talks about being trans.

BoreOfWhabylon · 28/08/2022 22:52

I'm pleased that MNHQ have allowed this thread to run - I'm sure there will have been complaints.

However, I do think that naming and linking Jack's wider family is likely to lead to it being taken down.

Deadnaming? This is quite an old article where she talks about being trans.

But I thought she was first known as a girl called Jack?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/08/2022 23:00

Am I right in thinking that Katie Hopkins had to sell her house to pay her off?

Not for giving her actual name, no. It was for libel.

category12 · 28/08/2022 23:01

Yeah KH had to sell up for the legal fees. Jack got £24K, I think.

SweetSakura · 28/08/2022 23:06

I don't think she is trans any more?

category12 · 28/08/2022 23:09

Wouldn't it still be dead-naming to use her birth name?

and campaigning for those stuck in the poverty trap

Once again, her 'campaigning' consists of nothing more than Tweeting all hours of the day. She does absolutely nothing substantial, behind the scenes or otherwise.

I think most people across the UK are currently very nervous about this winter thanks to the perfect storm of energy price rises, inflation and potential redundancies

I agree but do you honestly think that Jack's advice of telling people to cancel their direct debits and pay by standing order what they can afford or what they think their bills should be is good advice? Because I don't. And for someone who is apparently an expert in matters relating to poverty, this is truly shocking advice and has been debunked by several real experts.

Some people see her descriptions of removing lightbulbs and boiling cheap soap as a ploy to get sympathy or a way to hint she’s living in extreme poverty; I see it as someone trying to save every penny for what’s coming round the corner

If it wasn't a way to garner sympathy or money, she should have removed the PayPal link from the bottom of the blog post. As for the £27k a year earning, she's probably getting that from her Patreon alone (and an easy way for her to be transparent about that is to publish what she makes, which several other Patreon users already do for the sake of transparency. I wonder why Jack hasn't).

I'll be honest the debt charity who work with me told me to pay my energy company what I can afford. I cancelled my DD and pay a standing order monthly. I mean, what else can I do? Obviously, I won't have the heating on this winter, not use oven etc etc. But ultimately I can only afford what I can afford. What should I do instead?

category12 · 28/08/2022 23:53

Sorry you're in that situation 😞

I'm not sure that there is an answer to that at the moment.

Clymene · 28/08/2022 23:55

Well you're paying 7% more for your energy now - did they explain that? Have you spoken to your energy company?

www.mirror.co.uk/money/martin-lewis-warns-against-cancelling-27848340

I hope your financial situation improves

Clymene · 28/08/2022 23:57

And yes, I agree that using her old name and talking about her family is not on. She's a lying grifter and that's what this thread should focus on.

UndertheCedartree · 29/08/2022 00:20

Thank you, that's kind.

Martin Lewis seems to be saying don't switch to paying your bill on receipt but I don't do that I just pay what my DD was before they put it up in March. He says because your bill will go up, but they already tried to put it up. He says if you over pay by DD you will get the money back. Well, in all honesty that's fine if you can afford to over pay in the first place - but what if you can't? His advice seems to be fine for the comfortably off who don't want to over spend (i.e save the 7%) but not for those who are already struggling to pay their energy bill and can't afford to pay anymore than it was already put up in October (when the uplift was taken away too). Since October they wanted to put my monthly DD up 150%. I simply can't afford it if I'm going to also keep a roof over our head and food on the table.

I did phone the energy company and they just agreed for me to set up the standing order.

BuenoSucia · 29/08/2022 06:15

I’m not sure about the SO/bill on receipt numbers - it’s certainly worth checking YOUR own energy company. Mine tried to get me for years to switch to DD and it worked out about 80p a quarter to remove their ability to empty my account!

category12 · 29/08/2022 06:27

@UndertheCedartree Yeah, overpaying if you can afford to, gives a buffer for the price rises, but isn't helpful when you can't.

I just think government has to intervene as people can't pay what they don't have.

I guess we can warm ourselves up by burning down Westminster. 😁

Hobnobswantshernameback · 29/08/2022 07:57

She/they are trans??
god there's more layers to this than I realised
so is she living as male or female or non binary?
apologies had no idea that was a controversial area
thought Jack was her name or a nickname
bloody hell I'll step away from the thread

category12 · 29/08/2022 08:03

I think she was trans, but now identifies as non-binary, and is OK with she/her as well as they/them pronouns? (Or at least I hope so as I've been using she!)

I don't think it's relevant to the main discussion, I only brought it up because of someone wondering about why she doesn't like the birthname used.

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 29/08/2022 08:24

SweetSakura · 28/08/2022 23:06

How exhaustingly confusing. It makes a mockery of genuine trans people.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/08/2022 08:28

As much as I know, i think that's an accurate summary.

category12 · 29/08/2022 08:29

I think it's best to steer away from that side of things because a lot of her supporters and she herself say that it's because she identifies as non-binary that she is criticised, rather than it being about what she actually says. (I regret mentioning it!)
