Has anyone seen the recent tweet about her pawning/selling three diamond engagement rings? Aibu to think if you are pleading poverty and asking the general public to donate money one week and then showing off pictures of three massive diamonds you own the next, it's never going to go down well? Especially when you are already being challenged on lying and grifting?

For a long time I thought JM was nothing but a force of a good but I can't understand how she can be so tone deaf. It can't be deliberate but equally how can she not realise how it looks to produce three huge rings just a week after claiming she's so skint she needs handouts.

Apologies if there's already a thread on this.

As someone who fell for it and gave monet (only £10, but still.....) I think her writing is very persuasive.

I've been aware of her for ages, but have only followed her for a short time on Twitter. And I don't use Twitter that much so missed a lot of her Tweets, which means that I didn't pick up on her inconsistencies. I did know that she had been in a relationship which ended, and then she posted about being broke and I fell for it.

The weird thing is I'm not usually a soft touch. I don't give money to people on the street, I don't give money to people on here despite the sob stories. I always give to official charities rather than random individuals. And yet I fell for the JM 'woe is me' line. I suppose I became emotionally invested in her. However, a few days after I donated, she posted the engagement rings Tweet and the penny dropped for me.

I feel stupid for not realising, but it's also interesting to think about why I did it. Contrary to what someone said above, its very different to a Nigerian Prince emailing you out of the blue to offer you millions. This was a heartfelt plea by someone who I thought was an articulate critic of the system which has led to the current crisis. So I (and many others) was played. Looking back, it's obvious but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Nobody is perfect but I’m sick of the threads on here criticising Jack. They mostly chew over the same ground over and over again. There’s clearly a vendetta against her on Mumsnet. I wonder why some people are so desperate to discredit her. She’s been consistently campaigning about food poverty for years and has done a great deal of good. She’s on the side of the angels. Leave her alone.

Absolutely this. People are being vile.

SplatPancake · 25/08/2022 06:29

If it’s any consolation you’re not the only one @EmmaGrundyForPM - but it looks like she’s been posting versions of that begging post for years. Her Patreon has existed since 2017 - I don’t know if she did actually send stuff out to subscribers back then?

and I honestly think she relies on people not following things closely on Twitter- god who could bare to be on there all the time? So most people don’t see the constant deletions or rewriting of history- anything vaguely problematic or where people have challenged her will be buried in a “what’s your favourite sandwich” type inanity, or an “I’m exhausted, leave me alone” response. I’m sure a lot of her 500k followers have her muted most of the time.

Her behaviour is absolutely fascinating and really speaks to our current societal ills. I don’t think she’s an evil calculating genius, and probably her chaotic approach to things is the major contributor to her financial mess. But she is greedy and lazy, despite claims of an unpaid 100 hour working week Hmm.
But the way she manages her Twitter- not her other SM for some reason - is very, I don’t know, strategic? (That’s not the word but I don’t want to say calculated.) Constant shifting narrative, very clever use of tricksy words. Which is at odds with the overwrought gcse prose or political statements which show her up to be mot half as clever as she thinks she is.

Absolutely this. People are being vile.

Her good things don't excuse her turning down paid work that furthers her cause, and instead continue to take money from the public. She is knowingly taking money from those she's claiming to help...the people in actual poverty...

Absolutely this. People are being vile.

What's particularly vile? I think it's fair to question someone who asks for money online. Especially when she was taking out lightbulbs desperately 3 weeks ago, and turning down paid work yesterday.

AlviarinAesSedai · 25/08/2022 07:38

I thought she was applying for any work on her tiny phone, not sure why she can’t use her laptop! Any work is what she wrote.
I use to really like her, but have given the books I had purchased to the donation book bank.

category12 · 25/08/2022 07:47

Train driving work! That particularly got me.

AtomicBlondeRose · 25/08/2022 07:48

“I’ll do anything! Even drive a train!” Aka do highly skilled, sought-after, well-paid work…

Absolutely this. People are being vile.

Where a people being vile? Examples?

Because we are talking about someone who has misrepresented their circumstances time and again, to encourage people to send them money. That's fraud.

JubileeTrifle · 25/08/2022 08:00

Again I would like someone to direct me to actual work she is doing (that isn’t behind the scenes/top secret ) that isn’t tweeting!

category12 · 25/08/2022 08:24

SweetSakura · 24/08/2022 22:28

It doesn't state anywhere on that teemill site whether any money goes to any charity?

It does on the entry page.

category12 · 25/08/2022 08:25

Doesn't say WHICH charities tho.

EarringsandLipstick · 24/08/2022 22:30

She's been busily deleting tweets today, including the one about turning down all those work opportunities - a tweet today from here says all were unpaid.

It's really frustrating as she's continually painting & editing a narrative, that superficially seems to hold up.

A cookery series that was unpaid?!

nokitchen · 25/08/2022 09:10

Hmm. This 'donating to charities' is the bit that makes me uneasy.

The Patreon bit I understand. It seems 800 plus people send money each month to her. No idea how much that works out at as no figures published, but assume several thousand? Maybe more? However,I guess it's a bit like sponsoring her? Especially if they get nothing in return. It's not something I would do, but it's a free world.

The PayPal tip jar is a bit shady, but as long as it's declared to the tax man that's the same as the Patreon.

But the charity t shirts doesn't seem to sit right unless it's completely transparent. I worked for a charity in the past and everything had to be declared and transparent.

This venture feels a bit more like a 'gofundme'. Open to abuse.

Baoing · 25/08/2022 10:00

Absolutely this. People are being vile

Who? Where? That's not the case at all. People are starting to ask questions - based purely on JM's own words - and realising that things don't add up.

That's not vile. Nor is it unreasonable, a vendetta, or 'getting at Jack,' or any of that. It's just seeking accountability.

It would be closer to 'vile' to distort the truth to get people who are almost in poverty themselves to donate money to someone who is not being authentic about their circumstances.

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 25/08/2022 10:05

I can't believe she said that about driving a train!

DH is a train driver/Driver instructor so I know full well the requirements for that job.

She says it like it something beneath her when in reality (as a PP said) it's a very highly skilled, well paid career.

Jonad · 25/08/2022 10:14

What IS vile is calling people who have valid criticisms of you anti-Semites because some of the tweets were on a Saturday and your lawyer is Jewish.

Also can’t she do the job applications on her Mac?

Bubblebubblebah · 24/08/2022 23:24

Don't forget immigrant thrown in. I don't know how second or third gen felt about i, first gen, but I felt insulted by it being thrown as defence against rightful questions

With that said, looks like Molly is a first gen too

Thesearmsofmine · 25/08/2022 10:36

Quite amusing that she has deleted that tweet about the various work she had supposedly been offered that day. She clearly thought it would make her look good and popular and then deleted it when people called her out on the absolute rubbish she is spouting.

ermagerdabear · 25/08/2022 10:38

Don't forget immigrant thrown in. I don't know how second or third gen felt about it

I suppose I'm a third generation immigrant. However, I'm white (like Jack) and was born and raised in England (like Jack). It's not a 'thing' and certainly not one that has impacted my life in any way shape or form (like Jack). She hasn't suffered from being born into an 'immigrant family' and the only reason anyone knows about it is because she keeps bringing it up. And referring to it is absolutely fine because of course you can be proud of your heritage, but using it as another oppression category to slot yourself into when people are criticising you, is not.

“I’ll do anything! Even drive a train!” Aka do highly skilled, sought-after, well-paid work…

What's the odds of somebody who has stated that they're an alcoholic drug abuser with ADHD and is unable to get a driving licence because they panic at roundabouts and can't coordinate themselves sufficiently to ride a bike, navigate their own stairs or bathroom without falling over, is unable to operate their own email or access book drafts, has had 'seizures' and frequently describes suicidal ideation, intent and acts being allowed anywhere near a Hitachi AT300 Azuma travelling at up to 200km/h?

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 25/08/2022 12:08

@NeverDropYourMooncup You said it way better than I did!👏
