Has anyone seen the recent tweet about her pawning/selling three diamond engagement rings? Aibu to think if you are pleading poverty and asking the general public to donate money one week and then showing off pictures of three massive diamonds you own the next, it's never going to go down well? Especially when you are already being challenged on lying and grifting?

For a long time I thought JM was nothing but a force of a good but I can't understand how she can be so tone deaf. It can't be deliberate but equally how can she not realise how it looks to produce three huge rings just a week after claiming she's so skint she needs handouts.

Apologies if there's already a thread on this.

You can't well accept imaginary offers

Very true. She seems to be a fantasist.

SweetSakura · 23/08/2022 18:30

aroundtheblock · 23/08/2022 16:49

She has ADHD and possibly autism.
This is why she's tone deaf and has rapidly shifting moods and feelings. It's not intentional lying, she probably spends everything she earns quickly due to impulsive choices which is very ADHD.
Asking for donations is not ok, but I don't think she's a grifter, I think her constant twitter activity, mania and chaos is attributed to untreated ADHD and she needs help.
*I have a lot of experience as a moderator in an ADHD support group.

I am sorry but this is grossly offensive on so many levels.

SweetSakura · 23/08/2022 18:33

It's all a bit "I literally cannot sweat," isn't it?

Yes! That's exactly it.

Affiliate links are a very small commission that a blogger gets if you buy from e.g. an amazon link on their site. It's probably fair to call that amount paltry.

Royalties are the money an author gets for each copy of their book sold. However, the author doesn't get royalties until they have sold enough copies to pay back any advance. Many authors live on the advance while writing the book and don't see a lot of royalties after the book is published.

So it's quite possible to be a relatively well known author and have no income.

Pretty sure Amazon terms ban you from affiliate links to your own products. But might be skirting around this is the product is her publishes and not hers

category12 · 23/08/2022 19:47

Well, she says it's an affiliate link and it goes to her books on Amazon.

Never in the history of celebdom has someone with such little talent been given so much exposure.

Clymene · 23/08/2022 23:26

No @Scepticalwotsits totally untrue. Of course you can create them to link to your own products. The blog is flogging your product, Amazon rewards you for directing your readers to them rather than the little independent bookshop Jack used to favour. You can't follow them yourself to buy stuff.

JubileeTrifle · 24/08/2022 09:33

Other people on Twitter saying they sent her cash after the blog post the other week. Did exactly what it was meant to then.

SweetSakura · 24/08/2022 14:34

I was shocked to see the amounts people said they had sent as well. £50 , £200.... It's not exactly loose change!

AtomicBlondeRose · 24/08/2022 15:41

I wouldn’t send my best friend £200 😂😊

I think this is it. This is the walls around it crumbling. Few will still stay and defend, but I don't see how this could be just swept under the carpet now.
I muted Monroe and today I had about 4 of my very small number of followers talking about this and retweeting it

BishyBarnyBee · 24/08/2022 16:54

I've followed this with far too much interest. Started off convinced these were right wing attacks on someone who had done a lot of good, but AM's forensic job of pulling out all the inconsistencies is pretty convincing.

I know very few will agree, but I'm still leaning towards messed up and chaotically vulnerable rather than calculatingly evil. I thought this tweet made some sense. I'm more and more convinced that what she needs is to get off twitter and try for AA's life of "sane and happy usefulness" in a low profile normal job like most of us have to manage. Anyone who cares about her should be helping her ditch the drama and focus on getting well.

However, I have two questions at this point.

Why on earth would anyone give her, personally, £200? You'd have to have an awful lot of money and not a lot of common sense to give that money to any individual rather than your local food bank. Not convinced that rings true.

Also, why is it not in any of the newspapers? They've been very happy to go for Rashford and Lewis. Why aren't they reporting this if it's true?

SweetSakura · 24/08/2022 17:13

I don't know why the newspapers haven't jumped on it yet but I can see that there are quite a number of pretty heavyweight investigative journalists following awfully Molly as well as TV producers, writers and people from the food industry. So there is definitely a lot of attention on this.

I agree, it may be that she had no deliberate intention to mislead people into giving her money and if is a reflection of someone who is just chaotically out of control /possible mental health problems. But the problem is she has made a lot of people think she is very poor and she has continually shared links that have enabled them to send her money.

Agree the onus is on people to think about who they send money too as well. But people with large followings on twitter have a lot of power and therefore (in my opinion) a moral obligation to act responsibly

AtomicBlondeRose · 24/08/2022 15:41

I know right! I am far from the breadline (now) and I can't even conceive of donating anything like this to an individual I don't know in real life.

And when I was struggling as a newly single mum, the only people I accepted help from were my parents... And even then I felt it was my responsibility to be incredibly frugal (ie not buy 77 lipsticks) till I could stand on my own two feet again

ermagerdabear · 24/08/2022 17:22

Do you think she's on the same level as Marcus Rashford and Martin Lewis though? I think the reason the press haven't gone for her is because outside of places like Twitter and Mumsnet, she's a nothing but a useful idiot for filler on tv debates and the like. They may be interested if they ever discover how much money she's conned people out of with regards to things like the Teemill debacle and the Lee Anderson affair. Molly hinted that she's had a couple of journalists get in contact with her, so let's see.

I know very few will agree, but I'm still leaning towards messed up and chaotically vulnerable rather than calculatingly evil

For someone 'chaotically vulnerable' she's very adept at tugging on the heartstrings and never forgets to rattle that tip jar or ask for donations, although I can well believe she has some sort of personality disorder. She also managed to get her shit together enough to sue Katie Hopkins, which I also think has gone her in favour with regards to the press not wanting to touch her.

CarolynMartens · 24/08/2022 17:54

She is way less famous than she thinks. I remember seeing tweets saying “journos don’t run this story” as if her Twitter was constantly combed by the tabloids. Mostly when she’s in the press it’s because she herself did an interview!

WhereAreMyAirpods · 24/08/2022 17:54

She's back again today, tweeting about a "smear campaign".

A "smear campaign" which uses her own words. And to be fair she's smart about how she uses Twitter, she blocks replies to be only those who she follows so makes it into an echo chamber of people telling her that she's marvellous. And she claims to have done "ten years of constant, thankless, exhausting work".

Aye right.

WhereAreMyAirpods · 24/08/2022 17:55

Oh, and is now on a jolly to the Edinburgh festival, which as anyone who has been knows, is not cheap.

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 24/08/2022 18:07

You would think with all those offers of presumably very well paid work she would be keen to get her diamonds out of hock and buy shower gel.

This whole scam has Netflix Documentary written all over it.

She's been really clever in how she's created her Twitter echo chamber. She only lets people who she knows are sympathetic towards her reply to her tweets (but unluckily for her, folk can still quote tweet, which is why she often deletes). She's also acquired a load of labels which she uses as a shield, such as 'disabled', 'autistic', 'trans', 'lesbian' and 'alcoholic' which means anyone criticising her can be shrugged off as transphobic or some other 'phobia' or 'ism' and will get all the usual suspects rushing to defend her.

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 24/08/2022 18:14

I'd love to know whether Nigella is aware of the Awfully Molly files and what she thinks. I hope she's clenchingly embarrassed.

Nigella put a begging bowl out for Jack's Patreon so I wonder what her response to Jack's tweet yesterday saying she had refused a massive amount of work and exposure.

Jack promised to accept any and all work py her way as part of her three-year plan to home ownership. She tweet that about 3 weeks ago?!

category12 · 24/08/2022 18:14

It's interesting that she's not threatening legal action and such.

How quickly people seem to forget the ongoing Captain Tom charity investigation.

The more people think their donations are going towards the greater good, the less likely they'll stop and actually think about what they're doing before they do it.

And that's what grifters rely on.
