Has anyone seen the recent tweet about her pawning/selling three diamond engagement rings? Aibu to think if you are pleading poverty and asking the general public to donate money one week and then showing off pictures of three massive diamonds you own the next, it's never going to go down well? Especially when you are already being challenged on lying and grifting?

For a long time I thought JM was nothing but a force of a good but I can't understand how she can be so tone deaf. It can't be deliberate but equally how can she not realise how it looks to produce three huge rings just a week after claiming she's so skint she needs handouts.

Apologies if there's already a thread on this.

Arguing over how much she earns from affiliate links is just a distraction. She's written books, newspaper articles, has had various brand sponsorships as well as a festival appearance coming up and a passive income that probably runs into thousands a month from Patreon. That's without how much she makes from various one off PayPal begs, plus the rest of the Teemill money that was never disclosed.

And yet she wants us to believe she's boiling soap for shower for gel and is using solar garden lights instead of normal lightbulbs and we're supposed to feel sorry for her because she had to pawn her three enormous diamond rings 🙄

NeverDropYourMooncup · 23/08/2022 09:22

BishyBarnyBee · 23/08/2022 08:17

Affiliate links are a very small commission that a blogger gets if you buy from e.g. an amazon link on their site. It's probably fair to call that amount paltry.

Royalties are the money an author gets for each copy of their book sold. However, the author doesn't get royalties until they have sold enough copies to pay back any advance. Many authors live on the advance while writing the book and don't see a lot of royalties after the book is published.

So it's quite possible to be a relatively well known author and have no income.

Doesn't using an affiliate link (whether you make a purchase or not) mean that cookies are set up where the owner of the link goes on to get commission from every other purchase somebody makes on amazon for the next month?

So a click through where you then decide to not buy a book means the blogger receives commission on you buying cat food, socks, everything from Amazon Fresh and a Jamie Oliver book for the next 30 days.

One not-book sale but commission on everything else people do buy for a month seems like a good little number to me.

ermagerdabear · 23/08/2022 09:33

@NeverDropYourMooncup yes that right, and for someone like Jack with half a million Twitter followers, I'd imagine that it brings in a not so paltry amount. Not enough to live on, but worth doing or she wouldn't bother. I mean, you'd think Amazon would be problematic anyway for someone who claims to be anti-capitalism and has a dad who is apparently a Morning Star reading Marxist, but who knows? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Clymene · 23/08/2022 09:56

4.5% of whatever someone buys on Amazon for the next 24 hours

Bubblebubblebah · 23/08/2022 10:00

Firstly, oooh I need myself the link.

Secondly. This is first time there is no response from JM, isn't it? Does it show AM really got it and can't be really argued with?

Firerybadger · 23/08/2022 13:39

dad who is apparently a Morning Star reading Marxist, but who knows
errr can you be someone who stands for the national anthem, literally brings out the big guns to a jubilee party, have an honour from the Queen, inherit from a landlord millionaire parent money and property and be a landlord as an occupation AND be a Marxist Morning Star reader? Seems a little….at odds??

Cloggyy · 23/08/2022 13:45

Agree. She’s not refuting any of it. Apart from her achieving aspect. She’s still a saviour 🤔

Don't forget the MBE too.

But according to Jack he's also 'dyed in the wool Marxist'. Just another thing to put on the list of stuff that doesn't add up.

She;s just tweeted that
"So far today I’ve had 3 documentary pitches, a cookery series, 2 TV studio debate requests and 2 interview requests in my email inbox. All politely declined. The reason I don’t have a ‘TV career’ is because I’d rather peel my eyeballs out with rusty teaspoons. Glad we’re clear."

So she has the option of tons of paid work (and threw a strop when Jamie Oliver did a tv series about budget cookery that she thought she should have been offered) but rejects a cookery series offer?

I'm just confused.

You can't well accept imaginary offers

DietCokeExtraIce · 23/08/2022 14:25

The number of contradictions that she comes out with are crazy really..

EsmaCannonball · 23/08/2022 14:27

The one time I saw her cooking on television it was an absolute shambles. It was a segment on This Morning and not only did the food look totally disgusting, it also looked undercooked to the point of being unsafe. You could tell the hosts didn't want to try it.

At the time she was someone whose views I didn't always agree with (gender, etc.) but who I thought was trying to do some good. I put her poor performance down to understandable nerves but apparently her subsequent television stints have been even more cringeworthy. There are chefs who make their first television appearances on live shows like Saturday Kitchen and are instant naturals. If you can't cope with a short appearance like that then television companies aren't going to choose you to front a whole show over the likes of Jamie Oliver or Tom Kerridge, especially when your social media presence is so potentially explosive. Neither is 'misery meals' a likely ratings hit. It's truly a disgrace that there is such food poverty in this country but people don't really watch food shows for the recipes. I'm a terrible cook so I watch for the escapism of watching Rick Stein swanning around Bologna or the fun of joining in with laughing at Gregg Wallace on here.

Firerybadger · 23/08/2022 14:27

They were probably offers to discuss the awfully molly blog posts. I can see why she doesn’t want to discuss them.

Oh totally, the tv debate/interviews I can understand her swerving, but a cookery series?!

EsmaCannonball · 23/08/2022 14:35

Yeah, yeah. I'm boiling soap by the dim glow of garden solar lights but I'm turning down the kind of job opportunity that comes with a six-figure salary, bestselling book sales and a potential multi-million pound cookery empire, even after I had an infamous Twitter rant about Jamie Oliver being offered television work instead of me and even though I often 'like' tweets saying I should have my own tv show.

I know Sure, Jan is an outdated reference but ...... Sure, Jan.

Why can her most ardent followers not see the disconnect here? It's bizarre. She tweeted some weeks ago that she was going to take every job opportunity she was offered so she could save for a mortgage and that's without all the guff in her blog saying she was applying for bar and hospitality work. Now she's turning it down?

aroundtheblock · 23/08/2022 16:49

She has ADHD and possibly autism.
This is why she's tone deaf and has rapidly shifting moods and feelings. It's not intentional lying, she probably spends everything she earns quickly due to impulsive choices which is very ADHD.
Asking for donations is not ok, but I don't think she's a grifter, I think her constant twitter activity, mania and chaos is attributed to untreated ADHD and she needs help.
*I have a lot of experience as a moderator in an ADHD support group.

Bubblebubblebah · 23/08/2022 16:52

I have ADHD and somehow didn't manage to accidentally scam someone yet.
Actually, I would dare to say most of us haven't.
While the mood swings can be explained by it, the rest really can't and shouldn't imho

Gresde · 23/08/2022 17:06

AlexCabot · 23/08/2022 17:22

Apparently being autistic means that you "literally cannot lie" according to Jack.

It's all a bit "I literally cannot sweat," isn't it? As in, don't dare challenge me - I've got this thing that may or may not have been diagnosed by me or the cat, so fuck off with your accusations.

It's also, obviously, absolute bollocks.

Ha ha.

Because obviously she's the expert on autism and obviously knows more than anyone else. And couldn't possibly be wrong. ...

No doubt she'll be claiming it "her thing" and should be called into TV shows when they need an expert....

It's because SHE'S LYING and a bizarre person.

Jack: I need money, I'm poor, look at me with zero money... I randomly boil soap instead of just buying a 40p shower gel, or just using the soap as intended.... Because I'm in such dire poverty 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

Randoms: Here's some work that we will pay your for...! Even some that might further your cause and help more people and also might boost your career slightly by giving you a media presence....

Jack: Naaaaaah, I'd rather scrounge off people on the internet who are following me because they're hard up and struggling to cook on a bootstrap... I'll take their money instead.

category12 · 23/08/2022 18:05

It's just bizarre that the people replying to the tweet seem not to have noticed that she's apparently turning down paid TV gob work or a cooking series (that she has been excited about the possibility of only recently), having only done the boiling soap/removing light bulbs post about 3 weeks ago.

I'm hoping at least some of her donors are redirecting their money towards actual charities or campaigns, or keeping it in their own pockets, having seen her apparently reject paid work.

She can’t even cook. Some of the stuff she passes off as cooked meals is hilarious.

Jamie Oliver, she ain’t.
