Has anyone seen the recent tweet about her pawning/selling three diamond engagement rings? Aibu to think if you are pleading poverty and asking the general public to donate money one week and then showing off pictures of three massive diamonds you own the next, it's never going to go down well? Especially when you are already being challenged on lying and grifting?

For a long time I thought JM was nothing but a force of a good but I can't understand how she can be so tone deaf. It can't be deliberate but equally how can she not realise how it looks to produce three huge rings just a week after claiming she's so skint she needs handouts.

Apologies if there's already a thread on this.

In fairness she did say you could drain the sauce and use it in something else, I think.

I can understand getting bored of baked beans or spaghetti hoops (although I read that some foodbanks were a bit upset by the suggestion that people have no choice in what they get) but surely you're better adding cheese, spices, mince or sauces to your beans, chucking them into something else, than draining off the sauce.

Cloggyy · 21/08/2022 21:38

The pasta in spaghetti hoops is not even real pasta it’s just mush

nettie434 · 21/08/2022 21:42

I've learned a lot from this thread. I didn't realise the extent of her various financial interests. I've changed my views but Gasp0de was right to point out that many of her more dedicated followers will not. It's become a point of principle to them. She gets a lot of media coverage because most people in the media have come from quite privileged backgrounds and she is the nearest thing they know to a poor person.

I'm still sad for her that fame has become such an essential part of her life. It feels like she has become a parody of herself.

I don't know much about JM but that's a pretty unfair allegation.

Not really when she's said she's abused prescription and bought over the internet drugs as well as alcohol in the last year (Diva magazine feature last autumn).

Clymene · 21/08/2022 21:56

@UndertheCedartree No one is forcing you - or food bank users - to eat tins and tins of baked beans.

As @category12 said, bette to add things to the sauce. But good luck with getting the sauce off the beans and reusing it. She only said that you could distill the diluted juice to reuse when someone suggested it was wasteful.

Barmy, isn't it?

It depends on the foodbank. The Trussel Trust ones you don't get any choice and always baked beans and hoops. Others you can choose, but again there are always lots of baked beans and hoops and only so much choice of things to make meals with.

No noone is forcing you but if that's what you have in the parcel, that's what you have. And you always have lots. And yes, you can rinse the sauce of, it's not hard. I don't think JM was the first person to suggest it, tbh.

Of course it's real pasta...

What do you think it is? Apart from mushy

Whyareyouasking · 21/08/2022 22:11

I think the issue I have is the “tomato” sauce is what provides the 1 or 2 of the five a day. Don’t wash it away.

Yes, but I think the point of suggesting rinsing the sauce away, was to give you the actual beans to use in something else like a soup or stew.

Because who wants baked beans on ornnext to something again for the 4th time this week??

I get that but the sauce is what contains the nutritional content. I wouldn’t be encouraging anyone to wash it away!

category12 · 21/08/2022 22:21

No, she was on about rinsing the sauce off spaghetti hoops to make a "riff on cacio e pepe"

Userg1234 · 21/08/2022 22:25

What I don't get is going on youtube and she is replicating shit, unhealthy ready meals rather than cheap, beat my alternatives which will go further, cost less than what she has made and be better for you!

category12 · 21/08/2022 22:25

Let us know how it is 😀

This isn't a nice thread.
She seems pretty vulnerable to me.
Remember Caroline Flack?
Guess "be kind" is over 🤔

She's a liar.

Vulnerable or not, she's a liar and is being called out.

AnneLovesGilbert · 21/08/2022 22:35

Thankfully be kind was never the law. It’s a lazy shut down to women asking questions. And Flack was being investigated for domestic violence so not someone I’d take advice from. You know what isn’t kind? Lying to manipulate people with less than you to get their money.

But if she's misrepresenting her situation and getting donations from people worse off than her, surely that needs calling out?

How do you point out to people that something's amiss?

People in the public eye cannot be beyond criticism, there needs to be accountability.

JubileeTrifle · 21/08/2022 22:42

Someone is saying on Twitter they sent her £200 last week (thinking she was struggling) how often does that happen do you think? Like someone else on here said it’s like the begging posts on here. There’s good money to be made and I certainly think she is making it.
It’s interesting how she still presents her son as very young as I imagine it’s more lucrative.

The reason I DO dislike her is I work in one of the poorest towns in the UK and she is being their representative. She has no idea of what their lives are like, how few jobs there are, how there is so little opportunity to change their circumstances. She is their voice, from her £800k rented house in Southend. It’s dreadful. She’s palatable poverty for the middle classes.

The beans are nutritious too and a portion counts towards your 5 a day. The sauce is full of sugar. Sometimes we want something a bit different.

The issue is not just the fact you can say no to hoops or beans bit also it is NOT economical.
I did calculation of hoops thing on another thread. Foodbanks don't give you hard cheese. If you have money to only spend on nonsensical hard cheese, I absolutely believe actual person in poverty simply wouldn't because most People in poverty are well aware of how money stretch.

Hoops are more expensive per portion, with the cheese, than dry spaghetti which includes cooking in microwave.

And very very frankly, of you can throw away 60% of portion of food just because you don't fancy it, you are obviously not actually hard up. And the " you can use it jnto something else" is bs. Mailny because apparently the original point was it was recipe for people who are fed up of that particular sauce.

Don't teach people how to easte over 50% of their food. Teach them how to make it better (and with less money🤷🏻)

Anyone who thinks it's ok to throw 60% of food is a sharlatan and an idiot.

Bubblebubblebah · 21/08/2022 22:58

And btw whatever is ont hat pictures of the rinsed hops revipe is NOT the dry hard cheap cheese. I used it numeber of times. It is NOT that.

UndertheCedartree · 21/08/2022 23:00

I have to say you can tell who the food bank users aren't. Just add cheese, mince or sauces to your beans! And patronising explaining the sickly sweet sauce contains 2 of your 5 a day...yep, right!
