Has anyone seen the recent tweet about her pawning/selling three diamond engagement rings? Aibu to think if you are pleading poverty and asking the general public to donate money one week and then showing off pictures of three massive diamonds you own the next, it's never going to go down well? Especially when you are already being challenged on lying and grifting?

For a long time I thought JM was nothing but a force of a good but I can't understand how she can be so tone deaf. It can't be deliberate but equally how can she not realise how it looks to produce three huge rings just a week after claiming she's so skint she needs handouts.

Apologies if there's already a thread on this.

Really @UndertheCedartree? I guess the Trussell Trust really does live up to its Christian values. The poor will get what why're given and be bloody grateful for it. My local food bank isn't a member.

The £1500 joining fee and nearly £400 annual fee is pretty off putting for food banks in really poor places.

Poyu · 21/08/2022 23:06

A lot of Jack's recipe including the rinsing hoops one are bad, and yes I say that as someone who has used food banks, they don't feel tested or tiny weirdly costed out portions. But crap food really isn't the problem, rinse your hoops if you want. But the tangled web of finances and donations is a much bigger issue.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/08/2022 23:07

Well yes @underthecedartree, you need to add lots of cheese to the "caci e pepe" hoops recipe to make it palatable. Or do you suggest that a plate of rinsed spaghetti hoops will work without the cheese and butter?

Absolutely. And you know who isn't a food bank used? Jack monroe.

Yes, it's just how they work. The food parcels are made up in advance.

That's a lot of money to join!

I've never eaten it so no idea. But I just find the idea that someone at a food bank has the money for lots of cheese unrealistic. Rinsed beans in a sauce made from tinned tomatoes is nice.

I agree.

This isn't a nice thread.
She seems pretty vulnerable to me.
Remember Caroline Flack?
Guess "be kind" is over 🤔

I don't think you can have read very much of this thread, TBH.

That's what Jack thinks people will have access to though.

Can anyone remember the corned beef bolognese recipe she cooked on The kitchen program in lockdown?
Why didn’t she make good old fashioned Panacalty. If she wanted to make a meal with corned beef.
Mind other than corned beef being in a tin, 340g of minced beef was cheaper at the time. Especially as corned beef is £2 a tin .

Reported. CF was never found guilty. This is really unfair

She posted this at the very end of July: cookingonabootstrap.com/2022/07/ when she wrote she is SO poor she has had to take the lightbulbs out and hasn't bought shampoo for 2 years.

Lots of people sent her money. They she posted the engagement rings the other day. Surely you sell those first before you go on the beg?

I sent her money at the end of July after her post about having to make her own shampoo etc. At the time I felt that she was a campaigner for people in poverty, and believed her story.

Since then, I've read a lot of stuff pointing out the inconsistencies in her stories and now I feel like a gullible fool.

Selectiveattention · 22/08/2022 06:21

Sadly you won’t be the only one💐

Clymene · 22/08/2022 06:25

I'm really sorry @EmmaGrundyForPM. You're really not the only one who she's conned. She's very good at it Flowers

I have to say you can tell who the food bank users aren't. Just add cheese, mince or sauces to your beans! And patronising explaining the sickly sweet sauce contains 2 of your 5 a day...yep, right!

Well, yes, taken on board - but then Jack telling people to rinse spaghetti hoops and then add portions of cheese is just as out of touch, isn't it, if it's simply not something foodbank users get (or may not have fridges to keep)?

And if we are talking about the spaghetti hoops, it does say "one of your five a day" on the tin, which does have to be the sauce, as pasta ain't a vegetable 😁

catinboots123 · 22/08/2022 06:30

@EmmaGrundyForPM how much did you send her???

category12 · 22/08/2022 06:50

I do have some qualms with the thread, but on the other hand, I don't think it's been abusive or misogynistic, I think it's been critical but not nasty, certainly not in the way that Caroline Flack (or Amber Heard recently) went through. Whatever the rights or wrongs of why they came under the attack in social media, that doesn't matter, it was just vile.

But they weren't asking for money. I think if you're asking for money, you should be transparent and not misrepresent your situation, and if you apparently do, then expect to be called out on it. .

Being kind doesn't mean acting blind.

hop321 · 22/08/2022 07:02

I agree that criticism is justified if there's money involved. Which is the case for many influencers as they're paid to advertise products.

That said, I still believe people have the right not to like someone, irrespective of whether they're in the public eye. If I put my family life on Instagram, I would expect some people not to like us, as in real life.

There's a big difference in saying you don't like someone, or questioning their motives, compared to sending nasty threats saying you'll do x, y, z to their family. To me, that's trolling.

This site (and another that's been mentioned) are discussion forums. Comments are not being put on an individual's Insta or Twitter feeds, the influencers would have to seek them out to view the comments. I also think that's different asthey can choose not to look at them.

Are you saying its 1500 to join the Trussell Trust foodbank and get food from it? Because that has to be utter bollocks, doesn't it? The whole point of a foodbank is that it's for people who have no money. Where on earth have you got that figure from?

Canary, I posted similarly further up the thread.

There is legitimate criticism and holding to account, and there is an utter pile on of petty criticism. This thread has elements of both.

It was Caroline Flack I was thinking of in my original posts. I do think Monroe is quite vulnerable and I dislike the Tattle demolition jobs that comb over every detail of a person's life with great scorn. People have also made unfounded claims such as that she is worth 3 million pounds, which would make her an evil conwoman but seems to have no basis in reality.

But some of the points made seem valid and it does seem fair to question her business practices. I tend to think she's more delusional and chaotic than calculatingly evil, but I wouldn't give money to her personally.

I also differ from some of her critics in thinking that she has had some impact. I don't buy that she is keeping others out of the limelight or taking up space that others should have, it's just that bizarre celebrity culture where they look for a name and some kind of hook.

I'd dropped out of the thread as it seemed pretty pointless to keep repeating the same arguments but just wanted to tell you you're not the only one finding aspects of it unpleasant.

DashboardConfessional · 22/08/2022 08:16

I don't want to hashtag be kind to someone misrepresenting themselves as poor to encourage donations from her target audience, who are actually poor.

KermitlovesKeyLimePie · 22/08/2022 08:18

Beans and hoops are not the only things she is rinsing.

She is full of utter bullshit and it makes me so angry that people are being duped by it.
