Has anyone seen the recent tweet about her pawning/selling three diamond engagement rings? Aibu to think if you are pleading poverty and asking the general public to donate money one week and then showing off pictures of three massive diamonds you own the next, it's never going to go down well? Especially when you are already being challenged on lying and grifting?

For a long time I thought JM was nothing but a force of a good but I can't understand how she can be so tone deaf. It can't be deliberate but equally how can she not realise how it looks to produce three huge rings just a week after claiming she's so skint she needs handouts.

Apologies if there's already a thread on this.

There might be enough motivated peoplE for a group court action that may expose the financials.

No chance. There is no law against giving money to beggars. Caveat Emptor.

Bubblebubblebah · 19/08/2022 09:23

It's very hard not to like some of Molly's tweets but no way would I risk my name...

What is the risk?

Enough people reported being messaged and doxxed I think it's quite not ok risk

JubileeTrifle · 19/08/2022 10:58

The only good thing that might come from Molly is the press will stop using her as the face of the poors. She doesn’t even give good advice/good recipes. She only goes on TV to get followers and then she can sell them the sob stories.
It’s well orchestrated. I’d be pleased if the BBC stopped using her for starters. I’m not paying a license fee for them to be employing phoney poors.

It's certainly not happening yet - she's all over the media re Tory / poverty issues in the past week; she's promoting various guest appearances she's making at upcoming events & festivals.

She's got an amazing talent for getting people to believe her & endorse her credentials, regardless of facts.

scottishgirl69 · 19/08/2022 12:21

To be fair The festival has been booked for months now

I could believe that, i saw an interview where he seemed beside himself with anger (when his name had been used or something. I forget exactly what it was, probably justified, but his reaction seemed a bit beyond).

But he definitely seems transparent and to have a strong sense of ethics, actively trying to make a difference.

Whereas JM seems to jump on the latest talking point and take credit for it as her own, half the time. She did a post about her enormous burden and how she's the only one trying to do anything, and it's like whuuut?!

I saw a clip where he was very angry about his name being fraudulently used to make people believe he endorsed various schemes. I didn't blame him in the slightest for being angry. His reputation was being damaged by fraudsters. 😡

category12 · 19/08/2022 17:20

That's probably the same clip I saw.

Rantypanties · 18/08/2022 23:25

Yes I’d be very interested to hear about the food bank Jack helped out with too. So secretive about that and yet so performative when it came to posting a pic of her foodbank donation, complete with post it notes on the cans with her name on!!!!! Who does that?!?! 😂

Not sure it's ever been a secret. I mean, I know about it so it can't be! We've had Jamie Oliver too.

MissTrip82 · 20/08/2022 03:11

I don’t find it hard to believe she’s in financial dire straits. She’s a freelancer who is clearly quite chaotic and unstable. Bad combo.

Selectiveattention · 20/08/2022 06:25

And has a taste for designer things and millionaire gfs. Poverty is all relative hey?

category12 · 20/08/2022 06:39

Yeah, I think her version of financial dire straits is more "I should be able to afford a million pound house, but I can only afford a half million pound house."

JubileeTrifle · 20/08/2022 10:09

She reminds me of people I know who use ‘poor’ as meaning ‘not wealthy.’ BIL is kind of person who would spend thousands in a short period of time and then run to mummy about how poor he was and he couldn’t feed the children. I think it’s quite common entitled behaviour.

Spodocomod0 · 20/08/2022 18:20

Oh yes of course. Sad that she is unlucky In love too.

ArcticSkewer · 21/08/2022 06:41

I'm humming that classic 90s song right now ..... I wanna live like common people ....

Rent a flat above a shop
Cut your hair and get a job
Smoke some fags and play some pool
Pretend you never went to school
But still you'll never get it right
'Cause when you're laid in bed at night
Watching roaches climb the wall
If you called your dad he could stop it all, yeah

So the piece on Medium.com is live. A 21-minute read apparently!

My goodness that is a well researched article. How anyone could read that and think that JM is anything other than an outrageous liar stealing money from the gullible is beyond me.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 21/08/2022 11:12

Excellent piece. I hope Medium isn't pressured into removing it. Every single point is backed up with screenshots of JM's own words.

Neoncoral · 21/08/2022 11:16

That article points out with her own words, that she has been fraudulent when collecting donations. Hopefully the powers that be can look into it. So many naive people hang off her every word and hand over money to her. And having people buy a 2nd book to be donated ( no follow up as to where it went) but tweeting many times that she, herself, donated those books.

Neoncoral · 21/08/2022 11:17

Asking for donations with a cupboard full of lipsticks. The time stamps are jarring. Wow.

WhereAreMyAirpods · 21/08/2022 11:37

What "powers that be" though? Police? Hardly. She'll say that money was a donation to her which it was.

The harsh truth is that some people are more than happy to be scammed. You see it on threads here all the time when someone says they've given a tenner to someone who's "lost their purse". All the comments about "i'd rather take the risk of being scammed than see someone desperate unable to get help".

You simply cannot protect all gullible fools from themselves.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/08/2022 11:41

Can the Medium piece be archived? They have previous in taking things down due to complaints.

donquixotedelamancha · 21/08/2022 11:47

Hopefully the powers that be can look into it.

I'd bet that's very unlikely. There isn't some organisation that looks into everything dodgy in the world.

I doubt it rises to obtaining money by deception because she never makes firm promises.

The breaches of fundraising rules could certainly invite fines if someone had access to enough information to prove enough detail, which I think unlikely.

She doesn't put it through a limited company but if her taxes are done properly, she'll be OK with HMRC.

Is suspect the charity commission or the trussel trust could persuade the police to investigate for fraud if they feel enough money has been diverted from charitable fundraising but they won't.
