To tell DH not to leave DS in the car while he pays for petrol?

DH insists on leaving our 4.5 yo DS in the car when he goes into the petrol station to pay. I have asked him time and again to take DS with him but he still does it. What makes it worse is that the car alarm is sensitive so he leaves the car unlocked otherwise the alarm goes off. DS also knows how to let himself sleep out of his car seat and the car. For context, we live in a remote rural area so pay at pump doesn’t exist here. He did it again yesterday and I’m fuming.

So...you've never attended a car fire at a petrol station where a child was involved then...

And clearly it's more dangerous to be driving with the child than them being inside a locked car at the petrol station... But you don't seem to be advocating that children shouldn't be driven around, despite the fact you've actually seen kids harmed this way...yet are making people feel bad for something that you have never actually seen happen... 🤔

I’ve got three kids. It would be fucking ridiculous to get them all out and trek them inside with me to pay 🥴

I think it would be better to leave a child in the car than walk them across a petrol forecourt. Ideally I'd avoid getting petrol when child was with me, but if needs must , I'd leave them in the car.

I'm a retired firefighter and I know the dangers a car can present, I never took the chance of leaving my children in the car. I've seen the senseless loss too many times.

Surely you must have attended more instances of children harmed while cars were moving than through them being left on forecourts, but presumably you're not suggesting a child should never go in a car?

I wonder what OP thinks should happen with a minibus full of kids

She attended zero incidents of children in car fires
