I don't know why but it irks me. I don't get how you can be dry or why they are. I feel like if they're not matching the way I speak then what's the point ..

OP posts:

A friend of mine uses the sad emoji after every little thing that isn't going right. It just looks like she's being either miserable as in poor me or over dramatic. Truth be told it pisses me right off.

JasmineVioletRose · 06/08/2022 22:59

Huh?

NooNakedJacuzziness · 06/08/2022 22:59

The full stop thing is just weird. Is it only in texts it's seen as being angry? I can't not put one, how will I know when my sentence has ended? It's a little dot, nothing to be scared of. . . .

ThinWomansBrain · 06/08/2022 23:00

It can be quite hard to text if your fingers are wet.

RustyBear · 06/08/2022 23:01

Well, according to the Urban Dictionary, a dry texter isn't someone who doesn't use emojis, it's someone who can't keep a conversation going but texts boring things and phrases such as "K", "Cool", "What's Up", "Nothing Much", and "Hbu".

I just noticed from your name that you may not be English, is this patois?

I realise you may not be Scottish.
Do you mean patter?

You speak in emojis? Doesn't that get somewhat exhausting? And having to carry all those fruit and vegetables everywhere must get expensive...

Marvellousmadness · 06/08/2022 23:11

What the hell op.
At least include a description of what dry texting is supposed to mean

wherearebeefandonioncrisps · 06/08/2022 23:11

Sorry if I've misunderstood but do you mean...

You: let's meet at Costa at 10
Me: Great!

Or do you mean :-

You: Let's meet at Costa at 10 😍🎉😉🫠🤖👀🤷‍♀️
Me: Great! 👩‍❤️‍💋‍👩💃👍👑🐼🦑🦮

?

Sometimeswinning · 06/08/2022 23:16

I love an emoji! Luckily I'm friends with like minded people. My dh is rubbish. I send a whole monologue with emojis. I recieve an OK 👍 back!

LadyLothbrook · 07/08/2022 00:18

Do you mean dry textures?

StillHappy · 07/08/2022 00:30

LittleBearPad · 06/08/2022 20:14

They weren’t called Scottishmummy by any chance?

Not sure, sorry. I think it was fair to describe the mix of phonetics and stand as pidgin though.

Kitkatcatflap · 07/08/2022 03:51

No emojis from me - ever. Always found them a bit childish. But I do like a what's app' GIF - what a selection, GIFs make my texting quite moist OP

mathanxiety · 07/08/2022 04:51

Why do you need people to match you?

They are separate people, not extensions of your personality.

This sounds exactly like the OP, who started this thread and seemingly incapable of conversing on it. Maybe that's them showing how annoying it is....

This. Celebrate difference.

My daughter just uses one letter to respond to texts. Is she a very dry texter?

SouthWestChief · 07/08/2022 06:04

Is dry texting like dry humping?

msbevvy · 07/08/2022 06:17

I understood immediately what the op
meant.
On the other hand, I am such an old fogey that I don't use emojis because I don't know what they all mean and am worried that I will commit a faux pas and accidentally insult someone.

EngTech · 07/08/2022 06:19

Dry texting 😳😳

Every day a school day 👍👍

I initially thought it meant not texting while at sea 😹😹😹

Some of the topics on MumsNet lately are off the scale of “really” 😳😳😹😹

Sixsmith · 07/08/2022 07:12

I prefer words. Despise emojis. I find them irritating and immature.

RuthBrenner · 07/08/2022 07:21

👋👁❤🐏

All my text messages look like that. I loathe people that use actual words 🙄

GingerScallop · 07/08/2022 07:24

I wish I had the time and energy to have strong feelings about such non-things.

Actually, I don't

Well why don't you just match their way of texting ? There they are communicating simply and you go and put on a load of excess baggage ?

Emojis to me often feel OTT or just fake
