To hate dry texters?

I don't know why but it irks me. I don't get how you can be dry or why they are. I feel like if they're not matching the way I speak then what's the point ..

I do use emojis. I like them. I don't care how any one else messages me though. I don't think that people who don't use emojis are superior.

ChocoButterfly · 06/08/2022 19:21

I'm a dry texter because I think it's weird to laugh at my own jokes.

I always think people who use a lot of emojis are trying a bit too hard. I'm trying not to judge though.

I find the messages sent by people who put a full stop after everything a bit weird, like it sounds a bit abrupt? I used to work with a guy who was really friendly in person and on a voice call, but his messages were always really terse. It was all:

Me: Morning! Everyone ok? Looks like Mr X has replied about his invoice, I’ll reply to him now
Him: Good morning.

Me: Just seen Linda has been in touch about her account, has anyone spoken to her?
Him. I did that yesterday.

Me: Sorry I dropped out of the cal there, home wifi has been a nightmare this week!
Him: What a shame.

I do tend to overthink that sort of thing though

Eh? What’s wrong with what he said? Of course you need to put full stops in those places. Your messages, however, are grammatically awful because you used commas where you can’t possibly put a comma. You would need to use a full stop or perhaps a semicolon, but never a comma.

EmmaH2022 · 06/08/2022 19:25

I knew I had heard about the "full stop" thing before

Occasional emojis can be fun and add tone. Texts laden with them are irritating as hell. Most texts are better without them.

Topseyt123 · 06/08/2022 19:28

Dry texting! 🙄 I'd never heard of it. You learn something new every day. 😎

Crankley · 06/08/2022 19:30

You would really hate me then. I don't own a mobile phone and don't text at all Grin

amusedbush · 06/08/2022 19:35

I don't go overboard with emojis but I do use them very often (as in, one emoji at the end of a sentence and no more than a couple in total per text), mostly because I'm autistic and I struggle to convey/understand the correct tone in person, never mind via text.

My auntie, who is incredibly warm, funny and personable in real life, is the driest texter. No emojis, no kisses, full stop after everything. She doesn't even write out "haha" if something is funny. It genuinely makes me anxious and it couldn't be less like her personality.

Staffy1 · 06/08/2022 19:48

I’m guessing you are the sort that peppers your texts with “hun”s and several “xxx” at the end of each sentence. Hardly any words between the emojis and these.

saltinesandcoffeecups · 06/08/2022 19:48

I don’t get it⁉️🤔 What’s wrong with a few emoji’s 🤷‍♀️🧐 It’s just a way for me to express myself🫡🤗💃 I think 🫵 need a little more 🫶 and 🎇 in you life. C’mon don’t be a 🦀

byeeeee 👋👋👋👋👋👋💋💋💋 now

(ok that took forever and was annoying. 😂)

I just noticed from your name that you may not be English, is this patois?

I hope this is a joke Confused

AhaLyn · 06/08/2022 20:04

I’ve always been quite dry, using emojis makes me feel about 11 but can see how they help tone sometimes so I begrudgingly use them in reply at work. Although at work there are so many smilies it starts to feel a bit fake and like icing on a grumpy turd/polishing a turd.

MajorCarolDanvers · 06/08/2022 19:12

We speak English is Scotland 🤦‍♀️

There was a scots poster on another thread recently who seemed to be writing in a mix of what I think was a phonetic version of what I believe was a strong Glaswegian accent and some slang that I didn’t understand. I wondered if that was part of what was going on here.

AlwaysLatte · 06/08/2022 20:11

I too didn't know what dry texting was till I read on. I had a complete stranger text me to confirm a collection from me of something I sold and that put kisses after every sentence! I just put kisses with family and close friends (but no full stops).

They weren’t called Scottishmummy by any chance?

Other people are different to you.
Get. Over. It

LittleBearPad · 06/08/2022 20:16

On the OP’s point now it’s explicable. There is no need to use emojis in every text - words are pretty good at conveying a point…

As for @TiredestOfAll Confused.

What is dry texting?

The opposite of wet texting.

ThirtyThreeTrees · 06/08/2022 20:20

I don't mind one or two but anything more looks like a child's art project. Prefer words.

Janie92 · 06/08/2022 20:20

OP I totally get what you mean! Ignore the argumentative missers on here..
I have a friend who reads my messages and then doesn't reply for aaaages, then when she does it's just a one liner, winds me up because I'm more apologetic than that! I guess everyone has annoying people in their lives..

UndertheCedartree · 06/08/2022 20:21

👍🙌☺️😉😆😘

Crikeyalmighty · 06/08/2022 20:22

@Alloftheboys Lol!!! - I'm a very very dry texter!!

Alloftheboys · 06/08/2022 18:40

Are you looking forward to starting Year 9 in September OP?

lol

SheWoreYellow · 06/08/2022 20:42

Here’s an example - my mum does it:

Me: Lovely to see you yesterday, shame about the plant falling over! I was thinking Tuesday would be a good day to start painting your hall?

My mum: ok

So to make it less dry she could add an emoji or just say ‘That would be great, thanks’
