I don't know why but it irks me. I don't get how you can be dry or why they are. I feel like if they're not matching the way I speak then what's the point ..

OP posts:

If you send an emoji on text, l think you get charged as a picture message? So l never send emoji unless it is on WhatsApp

No you don't

Maybe they’re wondering why you refuse to match the way they speak?

but seriously How is this something to be bothered about?

ApolloandDaphne · 06/08/2022 19:01

I am not much of an emoji user. If people message me using a lot of them as their preferred method I reply using my own preference of not using them. It has never been flagged to me as an issue.

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/08/2022 19:02

Ironically many people like to use actual words rather than emojis to enhance understanding,

The OP may just have disproved my point though.

IncompleteSenten · 06/08/2022 19:04

You mean saying hello, how are you?

Instead of 👋 hello, how are you xxx👋😘

TheOrigRights · 06/08/2022 19:04

You hate them?

CuriousCatfish · 06/08/2022 19:04

Do people still use texts? Nearly everyone I know uses Whatsapp.

No you don't

Yes, you do on my contract/phone

Newsflash, not everything in the world is the same as it is for you

If that's what dry means in this context I do it for that reason too

Maybe I need to put a disclaimer on my messages in case I offend a contact who judges like a 10 year old girl

TiredestOfAll · 06/08/2022 19:09

I find the messages sent by people who put a full stop after everything a bit weird, like it sounds a bit abrupt? I used to work with a guy who was really friendly in person and on a voice call, but his messages were always really terse. It was all:

Me: Morning! Everyone ok? Looks like Mr X has replied about his invoice, I’ll reply to him now
Him: Good morning.

Me: Just seen Linda has been in touch about her account, has anyone spoken to her?
Him. I did that yesterday.

Me: Sorry I dropped out of the cal there, home wifi has been a nightmare this week!
Him: What a shame.

I do tend to overthink that sort of thing though

CuriousCatfish · 06/08/2022 19:12

So if you use an emoji in a text, you get charged? I never have been.

I just noticed from your name that you may not be English, is this patois?

We speak English is Scotland 🤦‍♀️

Are you looking forward to starting Year 9 in September OP?

😂

No you don't

Yes you do. Well i do and im not on a particularly cheap contract its just one of the idiosyncrasies. Therefore no 'pictures' in my texts.

Given im texting adults i feel happy they can real the words and understand the information so its never concerned me.

Somethingsnappy · 06/08/2022 19:14

I think I know what you're getting at. With a text, and thus an absense of body language, voice intonation and facial expression, the written message can come across a little abrupt sometimes? Which can be softened with emojis etc?

Staynow · 06/08/2022 19:14

Ask them to make sure they lube up next time?

StoneofDestiny · 06/08/2022 19:15

Heard of drunk texting (never a good idea), is dry texting is the opposite?

Meraas · 06/08/2022 19:16

I think people who use lots of emojis and kisses actually have very little to say so they make up for it with fluff.

Featuredcreature · 06/08/2022 19:16

I don't like using xx it does my nut in and I refuse to get drawn into using it after every message, a well placed emoji has its place

Staynow · 06/08/2022 19:14

Brilliant! <deliberately omits laughing emoji>

User48751490 · 06/08/2022 19:17

DM does xxxx after every message. I don't. I find it irritating.

diamondpony80 · 06/08/2022 19:18

Never heard of dry texting. Maybe I’m showing my age.

Are these text chats with friends? Surely the point is, you're chatting?

Mythreefavouritethings · 06/08/2022 19:19

I hate x after every line, I see it everywhere now and not just on texts. Just meaningless. Only Prince got away with text speak and symbols.

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/08/2022 19:20

Texts are just for conveying info quickly.

If you want to emote or expand, then call or send a perfume spritzed letter
