I ordered my shopping from Morrisons via Amazon prime and one of the bags had a massive fly in it.
I know flies are everywhere etc but that's pretty gross I think? It was stuff like berries, milk, hot dogs etc but I don't have any anti bac wipes and the idea of eating food that a flies been crawling and pooping and whatever else all over seems pretty grim, Aibu tk throe ther bag of shopping away?
I do have a tendency to over react so interested what others would do
(I don't particularly have the money to be throwing bags of shopping away but k also don't want us to get sick, and I don't have any anti bac wipes in to give it a wipe over)

To throw this food shopping away???

Since you have asked no I think you would be overreacting in the extreme if you throw perfectly fine food away

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/08/2022 13:55

The food is in containers though, right?

Muststopeating · 03/08/2022 13:55

No no no. Please don't throw away the food... you absolutely will not get sick. Will waste your money, the food and put unnecessary materials into landfill. Please don't.

Cloverforever · 03/08/2022 13:55

Over-reaction, definitely.

Soubriquet · 03/08/2022 13:56

Yabu! The food has packaging does it now. They aren’t loose in the bag

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 03/08/2022 13:56

It’s a fly, what’s to stop one being in your kitchen and landing on things!? Why on Earth do you need to clean the outside of food packets.
I’m aghast at the food you’re willing to waste. Awful.

goblinkinggoblinking · 03/08/2022 13:56

Enormous over reaction to throw all that food away

BodenCardiganNot · 03/08/2022 13:57

The food is packaged. Why on earth would you throw it away?

Cffee · 03/08/2022 13:57

Some of it, the fruit was just in punnets with the big holes in.
I dunno if I'm being silly but I do have OCD so I definitely know that my reactions aren't always the same as what others would be

Are you 6? Come on.

StrangeCondition · 03/08/2022 13:57

But the fly hasn't been crawling over the food, it's been crawling (possibly) over the wrappings that the food is in.

Chouetted · 03/08/2022 13:57

Wash them. You need to wash the berries anyway.

DogWithMyOwnRoom · 03/08/2022 13:58

Can’t believe I just read this…
milk is in a carton/plastic bottle, hotdogs are in packaging too - berries can be rinsed under the tap (and would normally be even without seeing any flies)

Throwing away a bag of shopping? Are you possibly undiagnosed OCD?

OneTC · 03/08/2022 13:58

Massive over reaction

MoveBitch · 03/08/2022 13:58

You know fruit is grown outside right

NiqueNique · 03/08/2022 13:58

I definitely wouldn’t throw it away. Your berries will have had all sorts of insects and things crawling all over them anyway whilst growing, as happens with fruit/veg/lettuce. Any packaging can be wiped down with soapy water if you feel you must but I wouldn’t do that either - you’re not going to eat the packaging.

You are honestly overreacting. Hope that makes you feel better.

liveforsummer · 03/08/2022 13:58

Huge over reaction - massive! Wipe it down with a sponge and a bit of washing up liquid if you must. Rinse the fruit as you normally would as it will have had flies all over it during various stages of its life.

GimmeSleep · 03/08/2022 13:58

Do you not wash your fruit before you eat it anyway? 😦

I have diagnosed OCD so I'm willing to accept that I'm being silly for sure

Fruit is famously grown in a fruit free environment…

SalviaOfficinalis · 03/08/2022 13:59

The food is in packaging presumably? And you’ll be washing fruit anyway I assume. It will be absolutely fine.

I know it’s not funny that you feel anxious about it, but I have had a little chuckle to myself imagining someone antibac wiping individual blueberries.

SofiaSoFar · 03/08/2022 14:00

Regardless of whether it's delivered loose or packaged, what do you think happens to food when it's growing in fields or poly-tunnels?

Come on, OP... 🤣

SalviaOfficinalis · 03/08/2022 14:00

Sorry I posted before I saw your update about OCD

EmmaGrundyForPM · 03/08/2022 14:00

Good for you OP. As others have said, wash stuff if it makes you feel better.

WaltzingWaters · 03/08/2022 14:00

I hate flies on my food, but everything is in packaging, and the fruits you need to wash anyway, it’s absolutely fine. Please don’t waste all that food and packaging.
