I am a lifelong veggie- my parents were 70’s hippies & so I have never eaten meat and was raised vegetarian & I don’t eat dairy either but I am not a vegan as I eat eggs - I find I need the protein & generally benefit from eating them.
my friend turned vegan last year and is really militant- sends me horrible videos of baby chicks having their heads cut off etc. i asked her to stop as it was upsetting & I didn’t feel I needed to justify my dietary choices to anyone and now she’s stopped speaking to me. Says she finds it difficult to engage with anyone who eats animal products.
Aibu to feel upset and also a bit like- go & try to covert some meat eaters if that’s your thing but preaching to the converted anyway - I am already trying my best and have had over 40 years of not eating animals - she’s had a year of it. She’s used language like murderer to me etc.
I do feel really upset about it all to be honest.
AIBU?
Friend not speaking to me because I eat eggs

I'm a vegan...really REALLY pisses me off when people do this. All my friends and family eat meat and dairy. I prepare meat dishes for my family. I will sit and eat my meal with others who eat their steaks or lamb shanks without comment. It never enters my head to say anything. Everyone is free to make their choice in what they eat. Militant vegans are insufferable and unbearable. Personally, I would create distance between you and your friend OP and just wait to see what happens. Just ignore her.

Send her some articles about the harm intensive almond, avocado and Soya production does and then block her number.
Eggs are one of the few animal products you can buy local, free range and cruelty free.

Most soya is grown to feed farm animals. But don't let the facts get in the way of your argument. If you think eggs are cruelty free then I'm afraid you have been brainwashed (I am not including the 0.0000000000000001% of global egg production from back yard hens). By all means believe whatever you want. Most people haven't got a clue about the food they eat which is a shame when there is so much info available

@Hachos2018 Earthling Ed is a film production graduate who has done very well out of making sensationalist viral videos about veganism. He has been vegan for quite a short period of time and profits quite well out of merch and his videos.
Chicken manure is the most widely used non chemical fertiliser, so I’d wager you are indirectly contributing to the poultry industry too. I can’t understand why people feel it necessary to try and guilt people with sensationalist videos when they clearly don’t have much of an understanding of the topic themselves.

Why would you want to be friends with her anyway?
I’d happily accept a ghosting

@HouseInTheHills I didn’t watch the video as soon as I was it was Earthling Ed. It would have been an entire waste of my time.
Its important to recognise that male chicks in the UK are gassed using argon and used for feed. To the point that the UK imports chicks as food for animals in zoos and pets because we don’t have enough. You can check this out with the Humane Society amongst other sources. So yes, sensationalist.
