Nudity between family

AIBU to think that it is weird that my boyfriend let his mum come into the bathroom for a wee whilst he was nakedly shaving his body (possibly chest, possibly butt). Background: Portuguese family where bf is only child (seen as miracle child) and family are liberal and very comfortable with nudity together and talking about sex.

I certainly wouldn’t do it in my family but if that’s how he’s been raised I don’t see a problem. All cultures / families have different practices that we sometimes find odd, but each to their own

Not something I’d do, but nothing really out of the ordinary for European attitudes. Brits tend to be very uptight about this kind of thing.

Sorry, to add some detail - he was spread eagled on the side of the bath with back facing the rest of the bathroom. Thought it was quite weird as pose was quite open. I'm British so maybe thought im just a bit up tight

It really is very dependent on the family!

Grew up with total hippies as parents. Nudity (in the casual sense, not in any sort of exhibitionist manner) was par for the course when I was a child. Both my parents would matter-of-factly walk out of the bathroom wrapped only in a towel, take it off, towel their hair, and just as matter-of-factly wander off to their bedroom to find some clothes.

My mother, sister, and myself are still very much like that! I learned about my sister's engagement while I was lying in the bathtub casually chatting with her as she was doing her brows.

Our father is out of the picture due to our parents getting divorced just as DS and I were about to hit puberty and our relationship taking a hit in general. No idea what we would be like if that hadn't happened.

All in all, I think I've rather benefitted from my ultra-liberal upbringing. I do draw the line at pooing, though! That's a strictly "me, myself, and I only" situation!

If I was bursting I'd tell my son to scarper if he could but if he was in the shower I wouldn't look at him but I'd have my wee if I was desperate. We do cover up in front of each other but if there's one bathroom and I needed a wee, I'd have it. What's the alternative?

So how did you know this happened? Did he tell you? Did she tell you? If it was either of those and they just said ‘shaving’ not sure why you think it would be his bum unless they mentioned it? You’ve obviously got issues with it as you brought up being an only child (as otherwise this is superfluous information). Is it an open shower, wet room, closed off shower. If it’s not bothering them, but bothering you, then i think it’s your problem. If he was in the shower and the mum was desperate for a wee and it was the only bathroom, then I’m not sure what the problem is, would you prefer to have her wet herself?

Mememene, I have been in your situation, I'd just hold on, my kids would hate it I went in whilst they were showering/bathing and had a wee, as would I if my parents did it, boundaries

I went in to say hello but his mum beat me to it and asked me to wait outside as she needed a wee. Thought slightly weird, she came out and i went straight in to see him legs spread on the bathtub!

Normal in my house, my two adult sons were brought up with parents being naked and still use the toilet if I am in the bath and they need the toilet. I can't get worked up about naked bodies or bodily functions.
