Strange comment from couple re children’s clothes.

I’ve always taken pride in my children’s outfits. Always ironed, Boden etc.

I was at the local tea shop yesterday when an elderly man said to my two young children ‘ooo dressed for a wedding are we’ and his wife snapped at him saying ‘no, just a parent who dresses them properly’

I felt quite uncomfortable that he felt my children were going to a wedding because they were in a dress.

So much wrong with this post I literally don't know where to start. I suppose the DC aren't being unreasonable.

Christinatheastonishing · 15/07/2022 01:06

How old are your kids? Aren't you used to random strangers saying stupid shit by now? It started in pregnancy for most of us. No need to stew on it.

Bunty55 · 15/07/2022 01:07

Boden eh ?

lollipoprainbow · 15/07/2022 01:08

Are you just wanting to boast that your kids wear Boden and you dress them properly ??

Neverendingdust · 15/07/2022 01:09

Casually dropping in Boden 🙄

Come back when it’s Bonpoint OP.

Lunarpsychobitch · 15/07/2022 01:11

YANBU but perhaps a little over sensitive. The elderly gentleman probably meant no harm and could be in the early stages of a degenerative illness.

AppleCharlottie · 15/07/2022 01:15

Sorry OP, but this does sound like a stealth (or not so stealth) boast.
Maybe you didn't mean it like that though.
Are you worried you're overdressing your DC now?

Do not trade in your day job for one in MH. Really, don't.

BruceWaynettaSlob · 15/07/2022 01:25

Why do you feel uncomfortable?

Testina · 15/07/2022 01:33

He sounds chatty and complimentary and nice.
She sounds like a judgemental fun sponge.
You sound like you have a stick up your backside.

Unusual to have a parent of conjoined twins on MN though. Do you do the dress making yourself to get them into one dress?

rahjama · 15/07/2022 01:35

Boden😂

Herbaceousborder · 15/07/2022 01:36

It sounds like an absolute compliment to me and my children spent many many years in Boden.

perimenofertility · 15/07/2022 01:40

He was paying you/them a compliment by saying they were dressed nicely. You should be glad of the compliment since you'd gone to the trouble of ironing those Boden outfits.

Summerfun54321 · 15/07/2022 01:48

Life is way too short for:
-ironing
-expensive kids clothes
-giving a shit about things strangers say to you.

FrancescaContini · 15/07/2022 01:49

Made me laugh. Thanks, OP.

lemmein · 15/07/2022 01:54

Weird that this is still on your mind a whole day later Confused

RoseGoldEagle · 15/07/2022 01:57

Strangers say random things all the time, this seems like it may have simply been an awkward attempt at striking up a conversation, he clearly thought they looked nice. The comment from her about dressing them ‘properly’ would have irritated me more- the assumption being if they’re not ‘well dressed’ it makes someone a bad parent.

I hate snobbery over Boden clothes, but possibly hate the reverse snobbery over them even more- we have a mix of supermarket, M n S etc and yes some Boden clothes, and I do think the Boden ones wash and wear well. They’re the ones I can usually keep after my kids have worn them all year to hand down to the next child/give away- whereas many others don’t last the season. I have never ever ironed them though!!

I wouldn’t give that a seconds more headspace OP to be honest.

Kant · 15/07/2022 02:06

Props, OP. Ironed and Bodened. I mean, I do Boden, but nothing is ironed, ever. Ironing kids clothes? Just no.

his wife snapped at him saying ‘no, just a parent who dresses them properly’

Ah, did she?

I felt quite uncomfortable that he felt my children were going to a wedding because they were in a dress

Did you?

Well there we go. Stuff that happened.

Quite.

GordonBennetttt · 15/07/2022 02:17

Boden, you say 🧐

Uptheapplesandpearstobed · 15/07/2022 02:24

Yes, my complaint is that I don’t want them looking over dressed for the park. I thought the dresses were comfortable and pretty, not wedding worthy.

OP posts:
BoJoGoGoGo · 15/07/2022 02:28

What sort of dresses were they?

Dita73 · 15/07/2022 02:29

Oh unclench

Kant · 15/07/2022 02:36

Wearing dresses isn't exactly unusual for children.

Boden doesn't look weddingy to me. It's just kicking around stuff.

Yes, my complaint is that I don’t want them looking over dressed for the park

Soldier on. I can't imagine anyone at the park will give two hoots about it.
