I’ve always taken pride in my children’s outfits. Always ironed, Boden etc.

I was at the local tea shop yesterday when an elderly man said to my two young children ‘ooo dressed for a wedding are we’ and his wife snapped at him saying ‘no, just a parent who dresses them properly’

I felt quite uncomfortable that he felt my children were going to a wedding because they were in a dress.

Himalayan salt crystals naturally.

Why I am I now more interested to no what there actually would be on a middle class picnic.or do they just not happen and it marquees and high teas or big long tables set out in mother's fields.

OP - I think you are getting some mean responses on this thread, but I also think that (obviously, not having heard the tone of voice or seen facial expressions I may be wrong...) the remarks might have been innocent, if a bit clumsy.

But I think I get how you feel. My toddler daughter lived in leggings and comfy trousers (she was a happy little tomboy) but one Christmas I put her in a simple, plain (yes, Boden!!! Sorry, Boden-haters) corduroy pinafore dress (hardly frills and furbleows) to visit elderly relatives. A notoriously mean-spirited cousin of my husband was present and made several pointed remarks about 'people who dress children up in ridiculous. uncomfortable clothes - she should be in trousers' which were definitely directed at me - as mine was the only child there!

Very ironic - she hardly ever wore a dress, but it was Christmas and she like the dress. I know I shouldn't have to justify it to anyone, but I know what you mean - these remarks were definitely hostile!
