Strange comment from couple re children’s clothes.

I’ve always taken pride in my children’s outfits. Always ironed, Boden etc.

I was at the local tea shop yesterday when an elderly man said to my two young children ‘ooo dressed for a wedding are we’ and his wife snapped at him saying ‘no, just a parent who dresses them properly’

I felt quite uncomfortable that he felt my children were going to a wedding because they were in a dress.

Why didn't you ring the police? The local tea shop probably has cctv of the whole incident...

PrisonerofZeroCovid · 15/07/2022 05:35

Log it with 911.

PuttingDownRoots · 15/07/2022 05:37

Were they matching dresses? That can make outfits look more formal.

As long as they are able to play without the parent telling them not to do normal things like go on a slide or play in sand to keep their clothes clean and tidy, they are not overdressed.

The old feller has either made what he thought was a totally harmless comment or else he’s ripping on you and acting like he’s being innocent lol. Personally I hope the latter

User5386509 · 15/07/2022 05:49

Ironed, Boden and elderly person, all in one post, Oh dear.

Ontomatopea · 15/07/2022 05:55

Ironing is so pre-pandemic

Herejustforthisone · 15/07/2022 05:59

Stealth boasts are supposed to be stealthy, OP. Do better.

butterflied · 15/07/2022 06:00

Of course that happened.

Ironing (kids clothes) is a waste of life.

Wearing dresses isn't exactly unusual for children.

Boden doesn't look weddingy to me. It's just kicking around stuff.

Yes, my complaint is that I don’t want them looking over dressed for the park

Soldier on. I can't imagine anyone at the park will give two hoots about it.

Haven't you seen the new sign at the park?
It's right under 'dogs must be kept on leads/no alcohol/no bbqs' no boden/fancy schmancy dresses. 😉

Siameasy · 15/07/2022 06:03

Ironing is soulless and doesn’t make you a better person

SnackSizeRaisin · 15/07/2022 06:03

Very sexist to put girls in dresses to go to the park. Why should they be hampered by their clothing. Don't think the brand particularly matters.

Round here it's a marker of being working class to dress children smartly. Ironed dresses with knee socks, patent shoes and bows in hair etc. Boys in sailor suits with a side parting. Middle class kids wear any old junk crumpled and full of holes. No experience of Boden, but Asda has nice children's clothes.

Bringonsummer19 · 15/07/2022 02:36

I wouldn’t worry, I would say depending on age that children can look a bit dated in Biden, I would mix it up a little with some high st pieces

Very good

Rosehugger · 15/07/2022 06:05

I remember once in a playground on holiday.in the UK, when DDs were little and dressed in their usual attire from Asda or Primark. There was one other mum and child there, plus who I assumed to be granny. Granny launched a fierce tirade, speaking to her daughter/DIL, but loudly so I could hear I thought at the time, about how terrible parents were who spend all their money on designer clothes for their children. I laughed.

FloydWasACat · 15/07/2022 06:06

Bonkers thread, I love it!

Inthesameboatatmo · 15/07/2022 06:08

Op get a grip! You couldn't come across any more wanky if you tried .

If its the middle class look you are after you've fucked it up. The boden yes but ironed and matching with a sibling is so low class don't you know . Get a grip the old man was probably just being nice , you sound very easily offended tbh.

Summersolargirl · 15/07/2022 06:09

I love this, “are my kids over dressed in boden”

😂😂😂

DockOTheBay · 15/07/2022 06:12

Why do you care so much about a comment from one stranger?

Does Boden do those ditsy print dresses with a Peter Pan collar? I don't think that sort of thing would be very practical for the park but if you and your kids are happy wearing that sort of thing then crack on.

SummerLobelia · 15/07/2022 06:12

I really like Boden dresses for girls. (And some of the ones for women too but I'm a chunker and they make me look like a tent). I wish I had worn things like that when I was a kid.

mathanxiety · 15/07/2022 06:13

Dresses and parks are not a match made in heaven ime.

Perhaps it’s just because they looked nice and clean and ironed. I can put a beautiful dress on my LO and within 5 minutes she looks like she has been dragged through a bush backwards so no one would thinks she’s going to a special event 😂

So much wrong with this post I literally don't know where to start. I suppose the DC aren't being unreasonable.

You were going to the park and your kids were wearing ironed dresses? Poor things, so very inappropriate, shorts and t shirts much more comfortable and far easier to move in/ climb in.

Shakes head at basic good parenting failure.
