Dog owners, are you walking them today?

Hello

I've been away for the weekend and just arrived home so couldn't get up at 5am when it's still cool to take my spaniel for a run like I would normally when we have weather like this.

I've seen that it's still going to be 26 degrees at 9pm tonight.

I feel really guilty when he goes without a walk however it just doesn't sound like it's going to cool down to a reasonable temperature tonight.

Are you giving walks a miss today/tonight?

Give it a miss, no dog has died due to a lack of a walk

bevelino · 10/07/2022 16:20

I will take our dog for a walk later this evening when it cools down.

SouffleGirl1 · 10/07/2022 16:22

No, no walkies for us today.

Hate this weather!

FT123456 · 10/07/2022 16:23

I will try taking mine out later this evening

whoamitojudge · 10/07/2022 16:23

No walks for my two either

XenoBitch · 10/07/2022 16:23

I take mine in the evening when it is cooler.

NoSquirrels · 10/07/2022 16:23

We’ll see what it’s like later on after 9pm and decide then. My dog will be OK to miss a walk though (not a spaniel!)

WeAreGoingOnASummerHoliday · 10/07/2022 16:24

No way. Just done some gentle sniffing games in the garden instead.

Replacethis · 10/07/2022 16:24

I did but it isn't as hot here. At 26 degrees I'd leave it.

plominoagain · 10/07/2022 16:24

Not unless it cools down a lot later .

MatildaTheCat · 10/07/2022 16:24

We walked this morning on a mostly shady path by the river. It was fine. I wouldn’t go now.

SirChenjins · 10/07/2022 16:24

It’s fine here so yes, have taken him for a walk. If you’re in a part of the UK which is getting v high temps I’d just give the walk a miss until it cools down

Clymene · 10/07/2022 16:24

We were out early this morning but in the woods. No running, just a short sniffy walk.

Mamamia7962 · 10/07/2022 16:25

I took my dog for a short walk this morning before it got too hot and I shall walk them this evening when it's cooler.

loobylou44 · 10/07/2022 16:25

Mine will get a walk about 11 tonight and another about 6am tomorrow. If in doubt then don't walk him.

Alonglongway · 10/07/2022 16:25

No walk for my dogs today- London

inmyslippers · 10/07/2022 16:26

We went in the morning g

elm26 · 10/07/2022 16:26

It's 29 degrees here currently.

Will give it a miss today and tonight I think, if he didn't run around like mad I would consider it tonight but I still think 26 is too hot for him considering how he runs and runs.

Thanks everyone ☺️

No, my dog won't get walked all week as it's forecast to be so hot. We're lucky we have a big shady garden but he gets so hot it's just not worth the risk. I will pop him over to the fields for a sniff and little wander at 9pm but def not what I'd call a proper walk.

LivingLifeOnTheVeg · 10/07/2022 16:26

Ours went for a early walk and swim, but if it’s 26 at 9pm, we won’t be going out again. They’re both lying on damp towels at the moment with a fan on them, occasionally having a dip in their dog pool.

Billybagpuss · 10/07/2022 16:26

Up early for a run and she’s just gone up to the green to sniff in the shade of trees and have a poo. No doubt we’ll be judged for the 20m of pavement she had to cover to get there.

floweringpoppies · 10/07/2022 16:27

Yes but we can go out our garden into a shady area so we do go for a very short wander!!!!

BiteyShark · 10/07/2022 16:27

If I was you I would give it a miss.

Mine went out at 6:30am today and even then we went by several watery bogs so he could have a wade in the mud water to cool down.

caramac04 · 10/07/2022 16:27

Took my 2 out early this morning but a shorter walk than usual. Probably won’t take them later unless it cools significantly

elm26 · 10/07/2022 16:27

Yeah we are lucky to have a big garden with lots of shade, I've had a couple of his toys out but to be honest, he's just laying on the tiles with his cool collar on.
