To hope Johnson doesn't resign?

Because if he clings on until the next GE, he'll be completely unelectable and we'll be rid of the Tories.

I'm hoping he digs his heels in just like he always has, even though by rights he should be fucking off with his tail between his legs.

I don't think so tbh. I think Boris will be forced to go but the country at large is wedded to toryism. Remember when the idea of broadband being a national right was floated and people thought that an absolutely absurd idea? Or the idea of magic money trees and so forth. Thing is the Brits in my view are wedded to misery i.e. no-one should have anything nice if I can't either.

Never underestimate the English's love for their Tories. A country of forelock tuggers.

Want a chance of them voted out for a while? Then the next Labour government must bring in PR.

Who else is there to vote for?

This. The Conservatives are trash and I fear Labour are just as bad. There is literally not one party worth voting for.

CorpusCallosum · 06/07/2022 08:05

I genuinely didn't know who might be the next Tory leader if Johnson did go so found the article useful. And if there's one more 'who else is there to vote for?' comment the answer is these guys, and the other parties - one man one vote 🌹

I think ive reached that point where I dont care who goes and who stays tbh. Not one of those politicians have to live the way most of us live. Im pretty sure Carrie doesnt have to nip down the foodbank so she can get Borris's tea on the table.

Kick them all out. Put some decent down to earth people that understand and know how we live in the real world.

Boobot1 don’t vote if you don’t want to.
But you really can’t say Labour are just as bad. that’s ridiculous.
What Labour politician that you can vote for, has been caught and fined for partying throughout Covid?
What Labour politician that you could vote for, has created political chaos and a domestic cost of living crisis, forcing people to chose between eating and heating, exacerbating the global problems we’re already facing?
What Labour politician that you could vote for, has weakened the pound by continuing to hang on in Downing Street out of vanity, directly making the cost of buying foreign energy and food and goods more expensive for us, making our cost of living crisis worse?
I’ll not even get into the shitshow of Brexit which Johnson really spearheaded within the Tories, the internal promotion of men who have form for sexual misconduct, and the constant cloud of concern about corruption and massive covid contracts- but you really cannot say Labour are anything like Johnson’s chaotic, corrupt and continually dishonest Tories.

SlowHorses · 06/07/2022 08:28

Never underestimate the English's love for their Tories.

Really?

In 2019 the Tories got 43% of votes. 2017 it was 42%, and just 37% in 2015 and 36% in 2010. Below is some info on how that translates to seats won.

The disproportionality between votes and seats can also be calculated in terms of votes-per-seat-won. In 2019 the Conservatives got one seat for every 38,264 votes, while Labour got one seat for every 50,837 votes. It took many more votes to elect a Lib Dem (336,038) and Green MP (866,435), but far fewer to elect an SNP MP (25,883).

Errrm, not really. Remember Dunkirk? That wasn't us saving the French. We needed the Americans and Russians ultimately.

Ladyof2022 · 06/07/2022 00:55

Be careful what you wish for. All the Labour leaders refuse to say what a woman is, have pledged allegiance to the trans flag, and have said they will remove all women's sex based rights.

No, they really haven't.

FemmeNatal · 06/07/2022 08:43

I hope he leaves or is forced out and that he’s replaced by someone more electable.

I don’t want to see Labour being elected.

Hasn't that always been the case though? For all our lifetimes you pick the least worst option between Lab and Con. Maybe once in a generation they have a good leader between them and a successful government. Lib Dem are there for a strategic vote.

If we want more choice we need PR to come in.

Genevieva · 06/07/2022 08:58

@CherryPieface
Historically Labour had 40 odd MPs in Scotland. That would make a massive difference. The Conservatives could easily lose 40 or 50 to Labour and the Lib Dems in England, so combined with Scotland that would make a Labour majority. Without Scotland it still leaves a Conservative majority.

I am going to France next week. I will do everything possible to avoid having to mention that I come from these shores.

Every day that Mr Johnson remains Prime Minister is a day more that he can do damage to this country and to its reputation.

We’ll probably know where you are from the first time that you speak, but I doubt any of us have as negative a view of the British as you seem to. On the whole we are very happy to welcome you to France.

The last three Tory PM's have been among the worst ever. 12 years of shocking governance.

I don't want a Labour government either but the Tories are the worst of the worst.

the80sweregreat · 06/07/2022 09:20

France has its own woes and problems. I bet they are not that fussed about Mr Johnson!

The general view that I hear on the rare occasions that the subject came up is that he’s doing OK after having been dealt a bad hand.

Another is that it’s good that he was elected rather than a socialist government getting in.

Kidsaretryingtodestroyme · 06/07/2022 09:34

‘What @ClaudineClare said. I hate that "they're all as bad as each other" crap.’

The ‘They’re all as bad as each other’ trope is a popular tactic perfected in the US during the Trump years. The purpose is to make voters give up hope and become disengaged so they will sit quiet whilst the incumbent raises merry hell.

ClaudineClare · 06/07/2022 09:51

Re:Labour and what is a woman etc. Jess Phillips was asked if women have penises. She replied that women don't have penises but that some trans women do. That was a fair answer from a Labour politician I thought.

Most trans women don't wish natal women harm, they are our allies not our enemies. The enemy is predatory and violent men.

WatchoRulo · 06/07/2022 10:14

I usually vote Labour but they are notoriously bad spenders, at the moment the economy might become worse under them.
This is just nonsense Tory propaganda - Labour’s fiscal responsibility is certainly no worse than any recent Tory government.

DdraigGoch · 06/07/2022 10:30

chaosmaker · 06/07/2022 05:46

Of course there is/was? a woman's party Led by Sandy Toksvig which, if I remember rightly was all about making women actually equal. Surely that is a party that knows what a woman is! You'd probably need to donate to them so they could afford to stand a candidate in your area in a GE - now that would rock the boat if all UK women did that and they got in.

The WEP have been taken over by MRAs too.

I'm usually wary of saying "he's toast" but it does look like it's finally happening now.

And good fucking riddance. Shame on all the weasel apologists who indulged him on the way.

SleeplessInEngland · 06/07/2022 10:39

But I'm not personally a Lab or Lib Dem fan at the moment so my thinking is replace BoJo and carry on, keep sacking all the sleazy members.

Vote for who you like, but if you think Johnson is the only problem and the tories can just cull the 'sleazy' members and all will be fine again well, I don't know what to tell you. The party is rotten from the inside out.

Kennykenkencat · 06/07/2022 10:54

If Boris left or the Conservatives went what would breakfast tv do? They would have nothing to talk about.

Only ever hear them haranguing Boris or the Conservative party. Doesn’t matter who the guest is and what they are on to talk about it is all about the Conservative party

Should say I don’t actually watch tv but hear sound bites from a different room and when ever I am around in the morning that is the only thing that seems to be talked about.

All through the lead up to Russia invading Ukraine it was about Partygate.

I wonder if a lot of it is Russian bots trying to divert attention away from what they are really up to

HRTQueen · 06/07/2022 11:05

Kennykenkencat you have a point

it’s been the same since Trump lost the election. Journalists moaning that there is nothing interesting to report on

I do feel the media have had the part to play on keeping him in place they have known a lot more about parties and when they happened but suddenly decided to report all these parties was the news slow at the time

Provenceinthesummer · 06/07/2022 11:20

I want him to call an election and let the people decide.

I can’t support a coup
