Because if he clings on until the next GE, he'll be completely unelectable and we'll be rid of the Tories.

I'm hoping he digs his heels in just like he always has, even though by rights he should be fucking off with his tail between his legs.

Janiie

The birthday party was a pre-arranged social gathering, with no work purpose, that included people who didn’t work there. The curry was dinner after a day of campaigning which the law expressly permitted. It was never illegal to eat food.

This is a v good article that explains it well and in detail. Why BJ was fined. Why KS was not. It looks at the rules at the time and the investigation carried out.

Surely we can forget this now?!

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2022 15:37

Different times of the pandemic. Different rules in place at the time

details, details, details

Of course they got off with it! Sir Beer had beverages and nibbles indoors during a working day whereas BJ had beverages and nibbles indoors during a working day. 2 completely different things according to the forensic Durham constabulary.

Can you direct us to Durham Constabulary's take on Johnson's beverages and nibbles then? Were they investigating that too?

Good.

He went to SIX parties

Goodness, I read that as:

He went to SEX parties

😂

itsgettingweird · 08/07/2022 15:49

Janiie just how big is your football pitch? Surely the goalposts can't move anymore?

SueSaid · 08/07/2022 15:57

'Different times of the pandemic. Different rules in place at the time'

Indoor mixing wasn't allowed, I think you'll find the Durham students who filmed it can tell you that. Yes Sir Beer has pulled it off, well done him but we all know the situation was the same.

Its funny I agree! if I was a Starmer supporter I'd be lolling too.

Wouldn't put it past him, the dirty bugger.

I know Janiie won't read it but for anyone else confused, here is a lawyer explaining the difference

I get the impression that at least one person on this thread might be attempting to get a rise out of people.

Oh people will read it.

But if there's 1 thing this whole debacle has taught me is that they'll only comprehend it if it says what they want it to say.

Absolutely! Ignore, ignore, ignore 🙃

ClaudineClare · 08/07/2022 16:23

I reckon that janiie is a hard core Corbynite in real life. She just comes on here for a laugh, no one could seriously believe what she pretends to.

ApplesandBunions · 08/07/2022 16:24

Very good point by Adam Wagner there that a lot of this will have been going on during local election campaigning around that time. Parties were campaigning, sometimes for long periods, people will have eaten during that time. It doesn't bear thinking about how much in the way of police time and resources could've been wasted on this sort of stupid complaint had everyone decided to go the way of the Daily Mail.

SleeplessInEngland · 08/07/2022 16:38

Watching Sunak's new leadership video talking about 'rebuilding the economy' I feel increasingly confident a new leader just won't cut it for the tories. We've had this lot for 12 years with wildly diminishing returns and too many of the contenders were in the cabinet of chaos that led to this point.

SueSaid · 08/07/2022 17:00

'I know Janiie won't read it'

Oh I did, I switched off after the 'I imagine the Met..' Not very forensic is it. I mean I imagine Durham plods have different goal posts to the Met but I wouldn't write a long winded tweet about it.

You can all mock me as much as you like, I don't wibble easily. It isn't just me with this outrageous opinion that is is utterly hypocritical to fine one social do but not another very similar one. The only difference being one was curry the other was sarnies.

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2022 17:02

I agree @SleeplessInEngland. The constant barrage of outrage has highlighted a lot that I think was being sleepwalked past before. The tories have had a long time to show they could offer something better and they’ve just not risen to the challenge, never ending austerity, the break from the EU, multiple affronts to the general zeitgeist of the nation and now we’re sitting here wondering what is actually working better.

I’m afraid the answer is nothing.

HarrietPierce · 08/07/2022 17:03

"The only difference being one was curry the other was sarnies."

Deluded

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2022 17:03

and actual law at the time. Don’t forget that.

ClaudineClare · 08/07/2022 17:06

No one is mocking you janiie, it is just hard to see the logic behind your stance.

SueSaid · 08/07/2022 17:06

'Watching Sunak's new leadership video talking about 'rebuilding the economy'

I know! Funny as he's been in charge of it for 2 hrs.

I like James Cleverly I hope he gives it a go.

It's just different to yours but as we live in a free country we are all allowed to disagree. It'd be a boring aibu if we all said yes I agree.

Notonthestairs · 08/07/2022 17:08

I suppose if we used Janii's interpretations of Covid legislation Johnson would have had at least 6 FPN's.

I'd be alright with that.

SueSaid · 08/07/2022 17:11

'I suppose if we used Janii's interpretations of Covid legislation'

I suppose if we used Durham's PC's interpretation of covid people at work could've all had beers together at 10pm. Who knew it was allowed!
