To hope Johnson doesn't resign?

Because if he clings on until the next GE, he'll be completely unelectable and we'll be rid of the Tories.

I'm hoping he digs his heels in just like he always has, even though by rights he should be fucking off with his tail between his legs.

Labour policy is to stick with Brexit and somehow - God only knows how - make it work.

I voted remain and haven’t fully considered the possibility but gut reaction is that ship has sailed and don’t think it’s good use of public funds to attempt a reversal. It was such a distraction when core policies should have been the focus and there are other more pressing issues like cost of living crisis/take your pick of issues.

For fanatical remainers nothing at all is more important - it’s like a cult - you underestimate them at your peril. Civil war looks more likely than their success admittedly but I wouldn’t put it past them. Let’s hope Raab is the chosen one if they force out Boris

Weird thing to focus in on but ok.

Cheating on a wife who was battling cancer would be an atrocious PR nightmare, but if it were true (which I agree it isn’t) it’d be the cherry on top of a rather large shit sundae that he’s doled out. Dump the cherry and there’s still a lot to dig through.

It's not weird, it's desperation. Not much else to say in his defence.

itsgettingweird · 06/07/2022 15:30

Except both Tory and Labour have said the decision will not be reversed.

So their motives would be wasteful if true.

Of course they have - for now 🙄

From the BBC

Fox: I urge you to do the right thing and resign

Here's more detail from Liam Fox, the former defence secretary who was previously loyal to Boris Johnson.

He says: "The events of recent days...have convinced me that unfortunately, you cannot continue to lead the Conservative Party and more importantly our country."

"We have lost too many good people from the government who could not reconcile their loyalty to you with their conscience. I share their feelings."

"Therefore, it is with a heavy heart that I am today withdrawing my support for you as I no longer have confidence in you as our leader. I urge you to do the right thing and resign."

Is that Liam Fox the well known remainer?

HRTQueen · 06/07/2022 15:22

I’m surprised Jeremy Hunt (though I don’t think the Tories would be so stupid) or Tobias Ellwood are not on the list both been hanging about in the Wings

would this just be a temporary leader until a leadership election can take place ?

Penny Mordaunt she is hardly high profile

These are the bookies odds for who will be voted the next leader of the Conservative Party and become our Prime Minister.

Penny Mordaunt's low profile is part of what makes her an attractive prospect. She has been quietly gathering support in the party for months.

Blossomtoes · 06/07/2022 15:34

We’re up to 29 resignations in less than 24 hours with another one threatened. These Tories really stick the knife in when they get going.

I absolutely hope Raab is the chosen one. Because one, it'll be a laugh and two, he's going to lose his seat at the next GE.

SleeplessInEngland · 06/07/2022 15:35

So glad the plot to dismantle brexit is working. God Save The EU!!!

jgw1 · 06/07/2022 15:35

@JaniieJones If you have the time, could you explain to us all why you think it is acceptable for a 56year old to have a birthday party whilst denying that opportunity to millions of children?

Thank you.

Provenceinthesummer · 06/07/2022 15:12

This is not about Boris and a cake
ffs I despair at the lack of understanding and knowledge

I despair at people who think they can tell me what my feelings are about a situation.

Brexit has been voted. We left.

Johnson employed a known sexual predator who assaulted someone. He lied about it repeatedly.

The second thing matters far more than someone we've already done.

Cornettoninja · 06/07/2022 15:36

Sure, let him do the dirty work and then discard him. Many of the others would have had a nervous breakdown if faced with a tiny fraction of what this man has been able to pull off

newsflash, being prime minister and in the cabinet is hard.

I have never, ever, seen such infantilising of a PM - the person leading the country fgs. Did you also feel sorry for Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Theresa May or David Cameron? Wars, terrorism, recessions, environmental disasters - it’s part of the bloody job. If they can’t hack it they shouldn’t be there. At the very least they should be capable of knowing their own limitations and stepping aside.

Provenceinthesummer · 06/07/2022 15:36

I don’t suppose Boris teally cares - but it is certainly enlightening for the public to see who they are…

Blossomtoes · 06/07/2022 15:36

How delicious that would be @ApplesandBunions.

'Except JJ typed it herself rather than a C and P job!'

We see repeatedly on these threads BJ got a bj while his poor wife had cancer. Her diagnosis came a year after they'd separated. So why don't you stop sniggering about who c&p what and admit the poor wife with cancer story is untrue, like a lot of crap spouted about him?

Find anywhere on here where I've said it's true?

Hint - you won't EnvyWink

SleeplessInEngland · 06/07/2022 15:37

Resignations now up to 32. A government collapsing before your eyes.

Provenceinthesummer · 06/07/2022 15:37

He didn’t have a party he had a cake
perhais you could kindly explain the differences to your children.

Huh? Exactly where are you getting ‘civil war’ vibes from?

Provenceinthesummer · 06/07/2022 15:39

Poor children - their mother doesn’t seem to understand what a party is - and a cake. Yes this country is certainly going to the dogs.

Well in the pp's household a party is eating cake at work. Sad but true! Grin

It’s certainly enlightening to see the inner workings of some of the minds that walk amongst us.

mbosnz · 06/07/2022 15:40

Hmmm, that cake that had empties tumbling out, vomit on the floors and broke the poor kid's swing. That cake?

itsgettingweird · 06/07/2022 15:40

Of course they have - for now

Are you suggesting they are all liars like Johnson?
