To think that takeaway pizza isn’t worth it?

Takeaway pizza is often very expensive and when compared to a similar offer from a supermarket can come to double or three times the price.

I find the supermarket alternatives just as suitable however have come under fire recently for dissing dominos in this way.

How do others feel on what I didn’t realise was such an emotive topic?!

Domino's is rubbish anyway. Our local takeaway pizza place is really nice and far cheaper too - £17 for two 10" pizzas, a 10" garlic bread with cheese, a portion of chips, two sauces, and a 2ltr drink.

doadeer · 05/07/2022 18:05

I love the pizza round me, proper fancy sourdough ones with crazy toppings 😆

dudsville · 05/07/2022 18:05

Unless you live near a great restaurant it's crap, the fast food versions are atrocious.

Nimo12 · 05/07/2022 18:05

I totally prefer the ones you can have made up in supermarkets. A fiver compared to about 15 quid and much nicer I think

WombatStewForTea · 05/07/2022 18:06

We have a pizza oven. In comparison everything else is shit

DockOTheBay · 05/07/2022 18:07

We get them from a local man with a travelling pizza oven. I think it's £8 for a pizza and they're freshly made and absolutely delicious.
Dominos isn't worth the money although if you can get 2 for 1 it's not much more than a supermarket pizza.

GiltEdges · 05/07/2022 18:08

We live near a lovely family run Italian restaurant that sells takeaway pizzas. Much cheaper than Dominos and far far nicer.

StrangeCondition · 05/07/2022 18:09

Domino's is shit, had it last night thinking it would be a good idea. It was not, and £24 for 2 pizzas

Comedycook · 05/07/2022 18:10

I agree. I only get pizza takeaway as treat on my dds birthday as she loves it. It's very expensive for what it is imo. The posh supermarket pizzas are just as good and cost about £5-6

FlissyPaps · 05/07/2022 18:12

The standard kebab/burger takeaways that do pizza are gross. Really greasy. But we have a local pizzeria takeaway that is own by an Italian. The pizzas are the best I have ever tasted.

bellac11 · 05/07/2022 18:12

I have to say that I hate takeaway pizzas, either they're from places where they dont use real cheese or the more expensive outlets like Dominos or Pizza hut over the years have tried to de salt and de fat the pizzas and now they taste pretty cardboardy to me

In addition, I have finally admitted to myself that I dont like the authentic very very thin crust pizzas where the toppings are heavier and wetter than the base can cope with, with big bits of topping on them which mean its impossible to eat with your hands. I dont like huge bits of sourdough or any dough crust which means you barely get any topping in proportion to the bread. Weve had these in restaurants, shops, on holiday etc

So I like a bog standard supermarket pizza or one Ive made but not with some massive puffed up doughy crust that people seem to think are better.

Pappa John's pizza is excellent. I agree though pizza isn't my go to takeaway mainly because of the price and I rarely have a take away anyway.

shivawn · 05/07/2022 18:15

Really depends on the pizza place, I agree Dominos isn't great.

Cantbeliveyoufakeit · 05/07/2022 18:16

Every time I order from one of the chains I swear I will never do it again! Luckily we've had a lovely little independent place open recently so hopefully I will stick to it this time. I don't mind the supermarket ones but usually takeaway only happens in our house because things haven't gone to plan and there's no time to shop/cook.

Grapewrath · 05/07/2022 18:17

My kids would strongly disagree that a pizza from a supermarket is the same as takeaway 🤣
I don’t eat pizza but there’s a clear difference between the two

TheYearOfSmallThings · 05/07/2022 18:18

I agree. I never order them myself but if I'm at a friend's house and we order pizza, they always smell amazing but turn out to be doughy, salty and gross.

Papa John's is my favourite takeaway pizza place. Dominos is rubbish - I much prefer supermarket ones to dominos.

glitzysandal · 05/07/2022 18:19

One of the most concerning things about the takeaway outlets is their clear disregard for hygiene. Supermarket pizzas seem to be made in much cleaner environments

Totally agree! I love supermarket pizzas, like the ones that are fresh, non branded ones. Also I love getting supermarket burgers and brioche buns and doing my own at home - never get a takeaway burger anymore 🙌🏻
Chinese is a different story tho - always order from a takeaway 🙌🏻 although Asda have started doing some amazing salt and pepper chips Smile

CuriousCatfish · 05/07/2022 18:21

I love Dominos pizza. No home made or shop bought ever tastes as good to me.

AntlerRose · 05/07/2022 18:22

I seem to get good deals at dominos and can normally get enough food for 4, with lunch leftovers for 4, for around the £20 mark

It is pricier than supermarket (which comes in around 12 with no lunch left overs) but they do cook it and bring it to me.

QueSyrahSyrah · 05/07/2022 18:23

I love a Dominos thin crust, and I also love a proper wood-fired pizza.

Supermarket pizzas don't come anywhere close to either IME.

MarmiteCoriander · 05/07/2022 18:25

I recently moved, but previously had a lovely Italian near us who did amazing pizzas. The rest of the places near there all had 'turkey bacon'. The last pizza hut one I had was awful.

If we have pizza, I often buy frozen ones (plain or with limited toppings) and add extra bits. Anchovies, extra veg, banana (on ham and pineapple), garlic and/or rocket or spinach once out of the oven. Sometimes some chilli flakes or BBQ sauce too.

doadeer · 05/07/2022 18:26

Did I just read you say you add banana to a pizza?

Wtf Blush

BiscoffSundae · 05/07/2022 18:26

I was thinking of this the other day and pizza just isn’t worth the price for take away anyway it’s mad, £10-20 for a pizza! I ordered 2 pizzas the other day and some dip and a drink and it was £25! Won’t be bothering again
