To think that takeaway pizza isn’t worth it?

Takeaway pizza is often very expensive and when compared to a similar offer from a supermarket can come to double or three times the price.

I find the supermarket alternatives just as suitable however have come under fire recently for dissing dominos in this way.

How do others feel on what I didn’t realise was such an emotive topic?!

Zizzis have just launched a freezer range and the Piccante pizza is genuinely one of the best pizzas I've had from either supermarket or takeaway.

Ragwort · 05/07/2022 19:22

inmysleppers I like the Taste The Difference ones from Sainsbury's, or the No 1 from Waitrose.

Good old snobby MN.

Some of us are on a low income and can't afford to throw money away on pizza that doesn't taste nice. I'd rather save my money to buy decent pizza for a special occasion!

My kids would strongly disagree that a pizza from a supermarket is the same as takeaway 🤣
I don’t eat pizza but there’s a clear difference between the two

I have been buying pretty cheap fresh pizzas from the supermarket lately as a form of cost cutting. I’m honestly amazed how they manage to make it so tasteless. It is admittedly incredibly cheap, but puts me off food in general…

Blueeilidh · 05/07/2022 19:26

Fresh made pizza is better than supermarket pre made but the best is homemade.

Marlaah · 05/07/2022 19:28

YANBU. I Make my own from scratch, it tastes great and it costs less than £1.25 for a big portion. T/a pizzas have huge mark ups and don’t taste that good.

stuntbubbles · 05/07/2022 19:28

I just had takeaway pizza last night from Bona in Forest Hill and it was everything I want from a pizza: charred crust, perfect cheese:tomato ratio, v v v thin base. Nothing compares, certainly not supermarket pizza. But it was “fancy” takeaway pizza, not Dominos or Papa Johns type muck.

We get them from a local man with a travelling pizza oven. I think it's £8 for a pizza and they're freshly made and absolutely delicious.
Dominos isn't worth the money although if you can get 2 for 1 it's not much more than a supermarket pizza.

We ordered two large pizzas on Domino's two-for-one Tuesday and the bill was about £22!
I definitely need to locate a travelling pizza oven.

Ilikewinter · 05/07/2022 19:31

I love a Dominoes, however the deal we used to buy at £21 is now £26 plus £1.95 for delivery - no thanks!
Instead I've been buying a deal in Tescos, 2 x Pizza Express pizzas plus a side and dessert for £12.00.

TwoMonthsOff · 05/07/2022 19:32

‘Fire Away’ are really nice and they do ‘BOGOF’ Tuesday if you have one nearby
they take two minutes max to cook in the flame oven and you can watch it going in and coming out
we have one locally it’s very nice, spotlessly clean and popular
Possibly a franchise chain

Harridance · 05/07/2022 19:33

Sometimes I make my own from scratch, sometimes we eat supermarket pizza, but I love a good takeaway pizza, partly cos I don't have to cook it

TuftyMarmoset · 05/07/2022 19:35

Premade pizza is only worth it if it’s Crosta & Mollica. The other ones are too bready so the ratio of base to topping is wrong.

SmashingEgg · 05/07/2022 19:38

Domino's is absolute horrible over priced dog toffee.

MrsPnut · 05/07/2022 19:38

We have a small wood fired pizza takeaway at a local pub and their offerings are magnificent.
I wouldn’t have Dominos or Papa Johns pizza but I do agree that Crosta and Mollica are also good versions from the supermarket.

Queenoftheashes · 05/07/2022 19:40

WombatStewForTea · 05/07/2022 18:06

We have a pizza oven. In comparison everything else is shit

Preach.
And it’s worth the bloody hours of proving and flour crust everywhere.

limitededitionbarbie · 05/07/2022 19:45

I do live a dominos but they are so expensive so I don't buy them.

I like the Chicago town microwave ones and the cheap £1 ones in Asda or wherever and then I add my own toppings

limitededitionbarbie · 05/07/2022 19:46

ouch321 · 05/07/2022 18:38

Dominos is the worst chain.

Papa John's is much better.

I don't think it's too bad as there's pretty much always a BOGOF or similar deal available.

I've never had papa johns what's it like?

Enjoyallthewine · 05/07/2022 19:47

I used to love Dominos but have stopped ordering from them now. Less and less toppings and prices have gone up. Prefer a local Italian place now, better food which us cheaper.

Enjoyallthewine · 05/07/2022 19:48

Papa Johns is much better than Dominos.

MiniMoosey · 05/07/2022 19:49

We rarely get it here because we all like different ones. I like dominos, my husband can’t eat it because sends his blood sugars through the roof. He likes papa johns and it doesn’t effect him but I don’t like papa johns. Pizza Hut is rank. We both like pizza express but it’s too expensive for what you get.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 05/07/2022 19:50

I'm quite partial to a slice of Domino's from time to time but if I'm having a pizza delivered I generally go for a wanky artisanal one. Most towns have a wanky artisanal pizzeria these days.

hawtsawce · 05/07/2022 19:50

I once heard that bad pizza is like bad sex. It isn't that bad.

Was said by a male, of course. But I fundamentally agree with bad pizza not being that bad!

MissConductUS · 05/07/2022 19:50

We make our own at home, but we buy portions of the dough at an Italian supermarket. It's excellent and about half the cost of a takeaway.

Fushiadreams · 05/07/2022 19:53

We had the papa johns Philly cheese steak one last night, was yum and much better than any supermarket equivalent I’ve ever had.

IRunbecauseILikeCake · 05/07/2022 19:54

I completely agree.
I have a pizza oven and it's made me realise how much of a rip off takeaway pizza is. Its ridiculously cheap to make, and I say that as someone who uses vegan cheese which can be more costly than dairy cheese/buffalo mozzarella.
It can also be made easily in a conventional oven
