Naked neighbours

Sunshine10012 · 22/06/2022 16:32

The fence that belongs to our neighbour is only a low wire for half the garden and then one panel that rotting and falling down and large gap that we have to cover with a huge plant plot to keep their dog out of our garden.
our neighbours have just had renovations done to their home, a new extension, new patio etc.
but they haven’t replaced the fence.
they sit out all day long in their underwear sunbathing.
my children can’t use the paddling pool, I can’t even garden because it feels too awkward.
for 7 years I’ve felt like I’ve shared a garden.
we can’t afford to replace the fence ourselves.
is it unreasonable to ask that they replace their broken fence seeing as they insist on sunbathing half naked everyday? what Would you do?

In their underwear is not naked. It's no different to speedos/trunks/bikinis.

I don't think it's a reason not to go into the garden!

BurnishedSteel · 22/06/2022 16:35

The thread title is a bit misleading, they aren’t naked. Sounds like they’re wearing the equivalent of swimwear unless they’re rocking stockings and suspenders on the lounger.

That aside, there’s nothing unreasonable about speaking to your neighbours about a fence on a shared boundary. However, I wouldn’t say it’s because you don’t like their sunbathing.

picklemewalnuts · 22/06/2022 16:36

Underwear isn't really different from swimwear though, is it?
I'd stop worrying about it. Get some screening for your side, as and when you can afford to.

custardbear · 22/06/2022 16:36

Just enjoy your garden like they are

Chaoslatte · 22/06/2022 16:37

Could you put up that bamboo roll stuff or any plants to block it a bit? I’ve just looked out of the window and accidentally seen my NDN sunbathing on her front in a thong so I do sympathise but I suspect they won’t get a fence because they don’t care that you can see them.

Thesearmsofmine · 22/06/2022 16:37

So they’re not naked? Do you feel uncomfortable seeing people in swimwear too?
why not put up a fence on your side?

Topgub · 22/06/2022 16:38

Save up for a fence

Electriq · 22/06/2022 16:39

You are being ridiculous, why shouldn't they enjoy their garden.

Just ignore, don't see the big deal with this!

Grumpybutfunny · 22/06/2022 16:39

Put up some bamboo or get on with it. Are they not in swimwear I've been in the hot tub and paddling pool most the day

Discovereads · 22/06/2022 16:41

They’re not naked. They’re as covered up as you would be wearing swim wear.

You would not be unreasonable to offer to split the costs of a new fence. But you would be unreasonable to demand they pay to replace it because their bodies offend your delicate sensibilities.

Basilbrushgotfat · 22/06/2022 16:41

Yabu

You can ask them to replace their broken panel, but rest is on you.

Pick up some willow or bamboo screening to cover your side.
Or some trellis
Put tall plants (bamboo in pots is easiest) for extra privacy
Chill out

They're not doing anything wrong sitting outside. And they're not naked.

ShandaLear · 22/06/2022 16:42

Get out there, get the kids out there. They may think you don’t use your garden so they’re fine to sit out there in their pants. A couple of screaming kids with water bombs, and a barbecue may make them think twice about a fence.

Omg 😳 in a thong on their front garden 😂

This. I don’t see the big deal.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 22/06/2022 16:43

Forget the sunbathing it's not an issue however the dog is. They need to ensure their boundary is secure for their dog. Are your houses terraces? Is their a gate stopping the dog getting from your garden onto the street? Personally I think I'd go the route of the local dog warden to get this sorted. They are responsible for their dog and ensuring it is under control in public and this isn't

PinkyFlamingo · 22/06/2022 16:43

But they arent naked, why are you letting this stop you going out into your garden?

StrawBeretMoose · 22/06/2022 16:43

What exactly is going to happen to you or DC if you glimpse the neighbours in thrir underwear in their oen garden?

ZekeZeke · 22/06/2022 16:43

Where are you based? UK/Ireland, the number of sun bathing days is so few, its a non issue.

If you are really that bothered get a fence yourself or put up some more large plants.

Really you have little to be worrying about, they are not naked.

Crankley · 22/06/2022 16:43

You lost the argument before it even began by using the word 'naked' in your title when, in fact, they aren't naked at all.

If I was you I would put shutters up at all your windows and while you're at it, don't forget to cover up the piano legs, as they did in Victorian times. I assume that's the period you're from?

RhiRhi1996 · 22/06/2022 16:43

Hardly naked are they! Would you be moaning if they were in bikinis / trunks ? Then what's the difference, you see the same amount of skin!

CuriousCatfish · 22/06/2022 16:45

They are not naked though?

Clickbait title.

Floralnomad · 22/06/2022 16:45

So they are in their garden in swimwear or swimwear equivalent - nothing wrong with that , if you want a privacy fence then you buy one .

GreenManalishi · 22/06/2022 16:45

Your children can't use the paddling pool and you can't garden... because you're making an issue out of something that is a non issue. Your neighbours could be doing a lot of things in their own garden that could make it genuinely difficult for you to spend time out there, and sunbathing in their pants is not one of them.
If you would like them to address the repair of the fence, then talk to them about that. The two are unrelated.

TidyDancer · 22/06/2022 16:45

Is this a reverse and your neighbours have accused you of being naked outside when you aren't?
