Starting a new thread as last one wasn't accepting new posts.. Years ago I was a young dancer and background singer .. Very shy starting out on the job I loved (age 16 ) Jim Davison was on the Sunderland Empire about 2002 ish.. He was awful.. Moody! Shouty! Miserable, Rude.😭 I danced and sang in a lot of shows afterwards, and the much bigger stars were absolutely lovely.. But he is the one I remember most.. Awful man!.. I have worked with the Nolan Sisters and they all were so lovely.. I really understand how Linda (she was so kind and lovely to me, as were all of the sisters) did not like Jim Davison when she was in Big Brother (that was not the man he acted like on that show) Out of all the 50+ lovely celebrities I worked with over 15 years(some quite famous stars) , this is the one I remember most as the most horrible one.

My colleague is the biggest Rik fan and has a huge collection of everything pertaining to him. She entered a competition to have lunch with him but won second prize of some signed stuff. The first winner couldn't make it so he called her personally to ask if she would be able to make it instead. Considering she still tells this story to everybody almost 25 years later shows just how much it meant to her.

Not wanting to derail, but that reminded me of something rather amusing that I heard about in Germany over 20 years ago. There was a competition to spend a day with Take That and hundreds of thousands of deeply besotted young girls entered, dreaming desperately that they might be the lucky one.

When the winner was drawn and contacted with the news, it turned out to be a significantly older woman who didn't have the faintest clue who they were; she was just a dedicated comper who entered every single competition that she came across! I suppose most of them where you win actual goods, you can sell the prizes or give them as Christmas or birthday presents. I do hope she had a relative or friend to pass it on to, who might have relished the golden opportunity a little more than she did!

Holly Willoughby- met her with a friend who knows her well through work and she looked at me like I was dirt and barely acknowledged I was there- beyond rude.
In contrast, the same night, met Simon Cowell who was an absolute delight, generally lovely chat and not fake at all.

I don't think I've ever read so many negative things about one person. Everyone I know who has met her has said she's awful!

I am sure this person is probably very nice and this may have been uncomfortable for them… but many years ago my grandfather passed away. I was just boarding the train to my parents when I found out. I was hysterical. The guard sat me at a table.

A famous designer was sat at the same table as me but opposite me. Not once did he look up and ask if I was ok. The whole 2 hours I cried. He read his paper and ignored me!!

@Dragonsmother

does he have a obvious moustache ? …… 🥸

Another friend met Will Young and said he was an utter arse.

Will Young was one of the nicest people I ever met. Spent about 2 hours chatting to him. Maybe it helped (not sure) that he very quickly realised I hadn't recognised him till someone pointed out to me who he was afterwards. This was about 3 years ago. So yes, I guess celebs are people and they probably met have off days.
Met many over the years from mainly very minor to a few quite famous and none have been overly rude. A few a little bit up themselves a bit but not rude and some a bit stand offish, Seb Coe who was with his son, so understandable really. Also, Richard E Grant who asked me if I minded not talking as he had been narrating an audio book all day and had enough of talking, also understandable.

XelaM · 08/06/2022 22:34

I do feel sorry for the celebrities who are accosted for photos by strangers then branded unkind, rude, arrogant. They owe the public nothing.

Actually they owe the public EVERYTHING

Margot78 · 08/06/2022 22:35

These threads are definitely my guilty pleasure! You could all be making it up but I don’t care!

DontStopMeNow7 · 08/06/2022 22:35

A friend’s parents were friends with Paul and Linda McCartney. They were apparently nice people.

dancingmarshmallow · 08/06/2022 22:36

@pixie5121 I have heard this so many times about holly yet she comes across all sweetness and light on tv! Wonder what goes on in someone's head to treat someone like that?!? All she has to do was say hi

Caplin · 08/06/2022 22:38

Was at Butlins a couple of years back and diversity were performing. My teen daughter and I waited by the stage door for them to come out and they all travelled by coach together accept for Ashley banjo he left via another door and travelled in a private car! The brother Jordan on the other hand was lovely and signed autographs as did the rest of them. I'll never forget the fact that Ashley doesn't travel with the rest of them and is not grateful to all the kids who waited to see him that day

I’ve worked with Jordan Banjo and Perri, they are absolutely lovely. I think Ashley struggles with the pressure of it all and hates all the gladhanding, he goes out of his way not to meet people. But knowing how much pressure he feels, I get it, it isn’t for everyone. That is why Jordan and Perri do so much, they love it!

YY to Bill Nighy being completely lovely and charming. I went one better than your DH walking along Piccadilly and glanced up, saw Bill Nighy and sort of instinctively recognised him as someone I "knew" so exclaimed "Oh hi!" and then realised simultaneously I didn't really know him at all Blush as Bill Nighy said "Hi!" enthusiastically back.

An ex colleague of mine once did the 'Oh, I know you' smile to Alan Rickman on her lunch break on Tottenham Court Road - then realised she didn't know him, sort of folded up on herself, grimaced, and just as she scuttled off down a side street in shame caught a look of utter confusion from Alan Rickman who had obviously realised she recognised him and was smiling back at her 😁

lollipoprainbow · 08/06/2022 22:40

I've never brought into Holly and her fake sweetness can't stand the woman!

She has quite a mean girl vibe, I think. Women like that seem to enjoy making people feel like shit. A power thing, maybe?

dancingmarshmallow · 08/06/2022 22:44

Stacey Solomon always come across as sweetheart !

DontStopMeNow7 · 08/06/2022 22:45

I dated someone who used to work in advertising and who used Rob Brydon and Sean Lock a few times for voiceover work. Apparently they were both always friendly and nice, coming across just as you see them on tv.

A friend of my parents lives next door to David Jason. He apparently keeps to himself but always smiles or says hello. Another friend was a neighbour of Cilla Black who acted like a complete horrible nightmare over some trees.

I used to work around F1 a bit. My experience over several years (ie I didn’t catch them on unusual days) was that Lewis Hamilton was an absolutely delightful chap who would take time and make effort with fans and sponsors, whereas Jenson Button was a complete arse who would do the absolute bare minimum with as little good grace as he could get away with. I sometimes marvel at their respective press profiles.

I genuinely do not understand the shit that Lewis Hamilton gets. He seems such a great guy to me. Glad you said he was lovely

Living in London, I see celebrities quite often and I find they often stand out because they make more eye contact than the average person, as if they're expecting to be recognised. I walk around with my head in the clouds, daydreaming, but I sometimes find myself noticing celebrities simply because they're looking at me and expecting me to know who they are.

SunnyShiner · 08/06/2022 22:51

I'm shocked at Miriam and the tramp. Who would do that? 😱😱😱

What a luvvie! Couldn't he have managed a couple
of words Hmm

lollipoprainbow · 08/06/2022 22:53

Has anyone met Ruth Langsford? I feel there's a slight side to her?!

Bettysnow · 08/06/2022 22:54

I'm friends with someone who is related to Liam Neeson and apparently hes a humble, well mannered, genuinely nice guy

Basilbrushgotfat · 08/06/2022 23:00

@Dragonsmother ohhh him! I don't have a clue what he looks like though. I'm sorry you encountered such unkindness when you were suffering so much :(

@lollipoprainbow I've read a post by someone who concurred that Eamon was miserable but said Ruth was really lovely. I've never met either!

Richard E Grant does come across as completely luvvie but I think he's also a genuinely nice guy from what I've heard. And to be fair, if I'd been narrating an audio book I don't think I'd want to chat - I imagine its exhausting!

XelaM · 08/06/2022 23:01

Ohhh I remembered another one!! A colleague of mine had to deal with Joan Collins for work very regularly and she was a total and utter nightmare. It was a running joke where we worked and no one wanted to deal with her.

Basilbrushgotfat · 08/06/2022 23:02

Has anyone met <whispers> P1ers Morgan ?

A friend’s parents were friends with Paul and Linda McCartney. They were apparently nice people.

That's the opposite of what my friend told me about Paul McCartney. My friend met Paul through a professional capacity & wasn't impressed by his behaviour.

I know someone who met him and got talking. He and Cherie were really lovely apparently.

Met both Tony and Cherie through my job. Horrible people. Cherie would drive like a bat put of hell in a mini, not caring if you were in the way, and such a pita. Tony took over after John Smith died (who was such a lovely man), he was rude, arrogant and a total knob.
