Starting a new thread as last one wasn't accepting new posts.. Years ago I was a young dancer and background singer .. Very shy starting out on the job I loved (age 16 ) Jim Davison was on the Sunderland Empire about 2002 ish.. He was awful.. Moody! Shouty! Miserable, Rude.😭 I danced and sang in a lot of shows afterwards, and the much bigger stars were absolutely lovely.. But he is the one I remember most.. Awful man!.. I have worked with the Nolan Sisters and they all were so lovely.. I really understand how Linda (she was so kind and lovely to me, as were all of the sisters) did not like Jim Davison when she was in Big Brother (that was not the man he acted like on that show) Out of all the 50+ lovely celebrities I worked with over 15 years(some quite famous stars) , this is the one I remember most as the most horrible one.

Viv Albertine from The Slits - lovely, 80’s Matchbox B Line Disaster - band all lovely, Pete Dougherty - lovely, Nils Frahm - lovely, Tony Hadley/Nik Kershaw - lovely, John Taylor/Nik Rhodes - lovely. Bob Mortimer/Vic Reeves - lovely.

Not so lovely - Holly Vallance, Simon Le Bon.

I know Holly. She’s lovely!

My dad was in the army and met Chris Tarrant during the clean up of the Falklands war. He came out to do a morale boost gig so comedy and a bit of a laugh. After he’s finished he chose to stay for drinks afterwards and got absolutely smashed. Dad and all his army mates thought he was brilliant, bought him drinks all night despite the considerable pay difference. Next day he went on the radio and slagged them all off, said they were lazy drunks overplaying how horrific the work was. He still can’t even watch him on tv all these decades later, he is an utter arse.

GreyRooty · 22/10/2022 07:58

Worked in the media 90s-early 2000s, and also lived in an area with a lot of celebs.

Lovely -

Barbara Windsor, Maureen Lipman, Emma Thompson, Alesha Dixon (all so friendly, professional, polite and just human)

Jay Z. So down to earth, humble, surprisingly funny.

Not very nice -

Madonna (we were told not to look directly at her when she came into our offices and she complained that the receptionist hadn’t obeyed this rule and got her in loads of trouble );

Sol Campbell (old footballer - stared at me solidly for an hour in a silent, creepy way during a client dinner and then seemed really put out when he got a lackey to ask for my number as we were leaving and I declined)

Kanye West (right at the start of his career).
Sleazy is all I will say.

Sean Connery was awful, a friend did a gig at a party he was hosting. They were told beforehand not to talk to him or even look at him.

Heard the same about Bruce Forsyth from several people including a London cabbie who said he was the worst person he’s ever had in his cab.

Odd! One of my pals at university in Scotland served him at a bar and he was very chatty, to the extent that he stopped to chat to him twice on the street while he was there.

Dorisbonson · 22/10/2022 08:17

Sean Connery I mean

LondonLovie · 22/10/2022 08:22

Vanessa Feltz. Gave her directions once in London and she was very bright & cheerful.

Louis Walsh shopping in Selfridges and let me and a friend have a photo with him. He wasn't overly friendly but took the request on the chin and obliged.

Interestingly my mates and I met Jim Davidson in his Pier Nightclub when we were 17! He was quite nice to us. He said we were clearly underage but wouldn't chuck us out as long as we didn't drink. We still got pissed and had a great night. He left us to it.

Prince Charles at an public event. Friendly and made a joke.

Work in publishing and Maureen Lipman was writing a book. A colleague worked closely with her and complained how Maureen would turn at the slightest thing… charming when she wanted to be and really unpleasant if something didn’t go her way or she was inconvenienced.
The same can be said of Brian May, Delia Smith and Robert Winston.

I worked on a book with Michael Winner and that really was something else. He called me “a little shit” for having the audacity to edit his cover blurb … which was three times too long. He also sent a fax (remember those!) complaining about me to my boss because a typesetter spelt his name ‘Micheal’ on a cover proof. It was a proof, wasn’t my fault and would be corrected. I can still remember his words: ‘One would have thought that as a BARE MINIMUM an editor would have a grasp of the English language and the ability to spell.’ Luckily my boss laughed - though he continued to suck up to the tyrant till the book was published.

redpickle · 22/10/2022 08:34

Awful, rude and mean - Esther Rantzen
Utterly lovey - Stanley Tucci

Personally, I have good days and bad days, which is allowed because I'm not famous

Also from same friend, same theatre - Tommy Steele (one for the older ladies amongst us) was starring in Singing in the Rain.
He was allegedly thoroughly unpleasant to the stage crew. So much so that every night before the big 'rain dance' number, they'd go up and pee in the water tank.

That made me laugh and remember something about another old time star, Marlene Dietrich. Apparently she was well known for being incredibly nice and generous (presents for everyone) to all the staff at theatres. When asked about it she said, "They can ruin your career, the lights, the sound, props missing, so always be nice."

I think she was probably nice anyway but she was obviously shrewd and Tommy Steele obviously didn't understand.

I did see Tommy Steele in Singing in the Rain, it was a treat for my late mum and she loved the show.

My friend dated Sol. She would confirm his being a total arse!

Alan Rickman wrote very favourably about Cilla Black in his diaries. Interesting as he’s clearly very perceptive, knew her & he isn’t positive about everyone.

I suppose people behave different though. James Corden clearly isn’t an arsehole to all his celeb pals. People know how to choose to bully people who can’t at that moment stick up for themselves.

I don’t believe a word of this. Brown and Harding don’t know anything that they haven’t already said.

I am reporting what she said which I observed and James' response - it was a festival everybody was relaxed and she was a wonderful raconteur.

Sandwiched between these two great speakers was Tina Brown talking about the Royals. While not a subject of great interest to me, she did so with sufficient gossipy candour that even hard boiled republicans could find interest in what she said, not least the revelation that if “secrets got out” it would ruin the Royals, and that Epstein was “possibly” murdered.

I met Glenn Close. She was very professional, no nonsense, all business, even though it wasn't a business engagement. Not friendly but not rude. What stood out to me is how incredibly tiny she is. She looked like a stiff breeze would blow her away.

I also met David Suzuki at an airport many years ago when I was a child. I was excited as I had a couple of his books. He did not want to be bothered. He gave me a perfunctory response and then held an old school newspaper up around his head.

Rosieroe · 22/10/2022 08:59

after recent reports now wondering if you’re willing to name him as James Corden.

chocolatemonster · 22/10/2022 09:03

Boris Becker - I worked at Wimbledon one year when I was a student many moons ago. So rude and arrogant 🙄

Cliff Richard, awful!!

I met Cliff and he was friendly.

LouisCatorze · 22/10/2022 09:07

Lots of interactions are a two way street though so is it not possibly 'off behaviour' reflects the non-famous person as much as the famous one?

Also, everyone has off days so maybe some of these encounters were just unfortunately timed?

I've seen quite a few famous people in my time, going about their everyday lives. Once I saw Nick Cave, Michael York and someone else famous (but less memorably so!) in the same afternoon. I have never interacted with any of them beyond a smile because it seems like an invasion of their privacy.

Livelovebehappy · 22/10/2022 09:12

Lorraine from GMB. She was at a work presentation I was at in Glasgow, and appeared nice when she was on camera, but then ignorant and rude when off. She just blanked people who spoke to her. I was shocked she wasn’t the bubbly personality she appears to be on GMB..

My DH works very closely with him and has done for years. He’s an absolutely bloody lovely man.

well im very glad he’s not like that all the time. It was 7/8 years ago we had our time and Not one of us there ( were about 20 people in all) would have gone out of our way to work with him again.
maybe he was nervous, maybe he just had an off month ( the runners etc didn’t want to be with him either) but there’s no excuse for being so unpleasant.

I met Hugh Bonneville volunteering as a marshal at my local vaccination hub. Lovely funny unassuming bloke!

Not surprised about Jim Davidson even one tiny little bit!

l thought exactly like you. He is a horrible man. I can’t stand him. Disgusting racist!

Oops - just realised it was the worst! Was on a plane once with Ronnie Corbett - the complete opposite of Hugh B!

This pleases me 😁
I’m also hoping that Giles Brandreth is as nice as he always appears. And Garry Wilmot - I remember him from kids Tv growing up, always liked him - I would be very sad if he wasn’t nice.

my cousin worked with Tony Hart for a few years and she said he was nice enough, though he insisted on pronouncing her name wrong. ( he’s on my list of “wouldn’t be surprised if there’s something iffy in his past” along with Peter O’Sullivan!)

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/10/2022 09:17

Not met either myself, but Marco Polo said of Genghis Khan that he 'was a man of great worth, and of great ability, and valor' however this view was, I believe, not shared by many of the 40 million people whose death he was responsible for. Sad

My db’s work colleague went to a dinner with his 12 year old ds who was a massive Chris Tarrant fan.
After Tarrant’s after dinner speech the boy asked him for his autograph.
Tarrant told the 12 year old to Fuck off.

Can’t stand the man.
