Starting a new thread as last one wasn't accepting new posts.. Years ago I was a young dancer and background singer .. Very shy starting out on the job I loved (age 16 ) Jim Davison was on the Sunderland Empire about 2002 ish.. He was awful.. Moody! Shouty! Miserable, Rude.😭 I danced and sang in a lot of shows afterwards, and the much bigger stars were absolutely lovely.. But he is the one I remember most.. Awful man!.. I have worked with the Nolan Sisters and they all were so lovely.. I really understand how Linda (she was so kind and lovely to me, as were all of the sisters) did not like Jim Davison when she was in Big Brother (that was not the man he acted like on that show) Out of all the 50+ lovely celebrities I worked with over 15 years(some quite famous stars) , this is the one I remember most as the most horrible one.

OP posts:

Harry Redknapp was lovely too!

2catsandacomputer · 08/06/2022 19:17

Just to add to the above. I also chatted with Princess Anne once - this was in 1987 when I was at university. She attended a Hall of Residence Dinner. I agree, really really nice.

I don't know if they would count as celebs, but have met both John Major and Boris Johnson.

John Major after he was PM and Boris when he was a columnist for the Daily Telegraph (I had a very lowly job with the Telegraph back then). Neither of them were very nice at all and generally very self-centred.

bippo · 08/06/2022 19:25

Ben Fogle featured in my wedding as DH's best man wrote to him and he replied with a lovely postcard that we still have!

I once walked passed Damien Lewis and the late and lovely Helen McCrory and their dog on Hampstead Heath. They smiled at me when I did to them. He is super tall and she was very petite, she was wearing a yellow sou'wester style coat with the hood up.

I once sat back to back with Jimmy Carr on a train, he was watching the inbetweeners on his laptop and laughing that ridiculous laugh!

Not me but a good friend had to look after John Snow (ch 4 news) at a charity event and said he was really lovely.

Martin Roberts (Homes under the hammer) was having breakfast in a hotel I was in and was eating really loudly, slurping cereal and demanding things from the waiting staff. Just rude.

I agree with the posters saying you can't judge people by one ten second interaction out of their whole lives. Imagine you were getting ready to go into a job interview and were really nervous and focussed on that, or had just been told your family member was terminally ill, or you'd just caught your partner cheating, or were stressed because your bus had been cancelled and you need to get home for the baby sitter .....and just that moment someone you went to school with 20 years ago and you hadn't particularly liked popped up and started rambling to you, wanting to take a selfie and get your number/add you on fb - can't you imagine any similar circumstance when you might just be the teeniest bit abrupt? Or imagine you're in the gym or the changing room getting changed and you feel a bit self conscious because someone is staring at you. Except for celebrities they get that person in their face wanting to talk to them, or just staring at them, or taking "discreet" photos every.single.time they leave their house. Obviously there's never any need to be out and out rude but nobody needs to be "on" all the time.

Like the poster above who based on once seeing ashley banjo get a private car has decided, despite having never spoken to him nor heard any of his group complain, he must be aloof and think himself better than the rest of diversity. He could have been feeling ill, or had another appointment he needed to get to quickly, or just lived in completely the opposite direction so paid for a car for himself. When I go out with my mates they often get the bus home together while I get a taxi - because we live in completely different places and my house isn't on a bus route - not because I think I'm better than them!

vera99 · 08/06/2022 19:27

Vince Cable - worked in BEIS back in the day and accidentally stumbled into a room at lunchtime where he was doing yoga and meditation - he smiled and I made my excuses and left!

bippo · 08/06/2022 19:32

Oh! And I also sat in a kids soft play ball pit with Catherine Kelly (was in Corrie, Mr selfridge etc) and she was really lovely. Her daughter went to the same nursery as my daughter for a while.

Georgeskitchen · 08/06/2022 19:41

Wilnelia Merced before she became Mrs Forsyth.
In her Miss World year she was doing public appearances. She came with a female assistant into my workplace for a break and a cold drink. She was absolutely stunning. Very natural, very little make up, nothing like the "beauties" of today with their tiny waist/huge arse, plastic boobs, fake eyelashes, pumped up duck lips etc.
She would have been 18/19 at the time, I thought she looked like a goddess!! She didn't say much, I don't think her English was good at the time, but very friendly and down to earth.
Bruce Forsyth was a very lucky man indeed!!

I used to live a couple of houses away from
Phil Jupitus in Leigh on sea a long while ago and confirm that he's deeply unpleasant.

Strangely enough the next post after Phil'a one is about Lulu and I've met her twice and she was lovely.

Zoe Ball is hands down the most obnoxious celebrity I've ever met, absolutely full of herself and demanding preferential treatment because she's famous.

I'm devastated about Zoe Ball...jeez, I feel so deceived 😂

vera99 · 08/06/2022 19:48

Zoe Ball's dad Johnny is a bit of a wrong'un......

I generally agree, but some examples that have been given deserve judgement. I'd never tell a stranger to fuck off just for talking to me, or throw food on the floor and laugh at staff clearing it up, for example.

Worse celeb tess daly, was very rude and arrogant.
best celeb was rik mayall. I meet him when he was in hospital after he had a bad accident and I was recovering from a double mastectomy. We became friends and he sent me a joke and birthday greetings in a text the day before he died. Really lovely man

Powertoyou · 08/06/2022 19:59

Daniel O’Donnell is the kindest, most genuine man you will ever meet.. The amount of time he takes, doing good for other people is incredible . His memory is unbelievable for remembering when he met you , what you talked about , who your family are and connections.
I had heard this about him before, but wasn’t really interested or didn’t believe it un Something happened in our family and he contacted us , as my mum was a fan. Omg the man is amazing . He never forgets dates and keeps in contact. All without publicity and there are thousand of stories of him helping others. The man is truly a saint.
Yes Cilla is not as nice person, a friend of mine got a job on Blind Date and said that everyone hated her. This came as a big surprise as she was so popular on tv and came across as so friendly.
I met Joan Collins in toilets at a tennis tournament and she was lovely very down to earth ,started to talk to me when she didn’t have to, she had amazing skin.
My husband, when he was younger, worked with the Royal Family, in the Houses of parliament , celebrities private parties, top hotels etc . He said Joan Collins was the best celebrity and the worse was Sarah Green.

Whereas her ex Norman Cook is lovely. I met him years ago and he was nice (even though he was preparing to go on stage). In more recent years, he does a LOT (for free) to support a friend's school (my friend is the head) and is amazingly kind and thoughtful.

Kanaloa · 08/06/2022 20:00

I’ve said this on a previous thread but the thing is you can’t really afford to be rude as a celebrity. You’re being paid (often ridiculous amounts of money) to be in the public eye, and you’re aware the minute you sign to play Spider-Man that you’ll be approached by people out and about. That’s part of the job.

On a smaller scale, I often can’t be bothered with children and parents from work approaching me at soft play/supermarket/park, but I can’t roll my eyes and stride past them or tell them to go away, much as I’d like to.

Alltheleavesaregreen1 · 08/06/2022 20:06

Jim Davidson is completely vile. My friend witnessed him racially abusing staff in an Indian takeaway, which sounds pretty standard.
interestingly, several years later I worked with his son at a law firm. He is extremely different to JD and quiet and humble and a nice person. I remember that he had a non-white fiancée who he met at work so I’m betting that pissed his horrible dad off no end.

Eggshausted · 08/06/2022 20:07

Miriam Margolyes. I’M all for saying what you think, but she is the rudest person I have ever met. She was very hurtful to someone in a dinner party. Say what you want you old cow, but be respectful of others feelings. Draws attention to herself at the expense of others. Nasty person.

Not in the least bit surprised about TD, cant stand the woman..
However i always loved Rik Mayall, so really pleased to read he was as nice as i'd hoped!

MrsE · 08/06/2022 20:10

@Basilbrushgotfat I was indeed stuck in a lift with them in Philadelphia when they were filming the sequel to Split. The best/worse part about it was I had a migraine the day it happened and also my laundry with me 😳 and the next day I went out and literally bumped straight into Bruce as I got out of the lift and he said to me "you look better today!!" 🤣

NothingSurprisesMeAnymore · 08/06/2022 20:21

Those I can recall from over the years who were just plain rude and entitled -
Esther Rantzen ("don't you know who I am?!!")
Adrian Edmondson (sneery)
Mark McCann
Miriam Carlin
Tim Healy

Those who were friendly and gracious -
Imelda Staunton
Helen Mirren
Mark Gatiss
John Gordon Sinclair
John Curry
Mandy Rice Davies
Sue Johnson
Mark Benton
Amy Robbins
Sandi Toksvig

Sarah F was head girl at my school. Many years ago of course.

Fabulous, bonkers and so down to earth Grin

Hurst Lodge? 😉I know it well.

Laquila · 08/06/2022 20:27

I've heard the same about Craig Charles I'm afraid, @ChrisReasBathEggs - he played a tiny festival local to us several years ago and was an all-round knob, v disappointing.

Oh that's very disappointing - I'm reading her autobiography at the mo and it's so funny.

AnnieSnap · 08/06/2022 20:33

Not at all surprised to hear about Jim Davidson. Even publicly, he’s always quite open about being a Misogynistic, Racist Pig 🤮

pollymere · 08/06/2022 20:37

Yes Jim Davidson has a real reputation in Berkshire for being rude and awkward. Maybe I've just been lucky. Although I've met Putin and he's probably the most impolite! 😂
