Husband wants to go away for a night when our baby is 4 weeks old…

My husband wants to go away to celebrate his nephews 21st birthday for 1 night and take our son who is 5 with him whilst I will stay at home with our 4 week old baby (recovering from c-section). The drive is around 5 hours. I have a couple of problems with it. Firstly, I think tagging our 5 year old along for a 5h drive each way is a bit too far for one night. Then, I know there might be some alcohol involved since it’s a 21st birthday celebration, so I’m not too keen on what our son is going to experience… also, I think that with 4 week old baby I might need all help I can get including looking after me considering that I don’t know how I’m going to feel recovering from c-section. My DH argument is that his nephew is 21 only once and that he’s helping by taking our son with him…. Am I being unreasonable by not feeling too happy about the whole situation?

I agree with this. If booze is involved it could be difficult, unless there is somebody there who's willing to take responsibility for your DS.

well it’s a 21st of course there will be booze involved! But so what?! It’s a family party? There will be people there who aren’t completely pissed. It’s fine for kids to be around people who are a little tipsy, what’s so bad about that?

All depends on the family I think and how their parties work. Fine if there are other DC there and somebody is keeping an eye on them.

If this is your experience then I feel sorry for you. Thankfully it's just not true.

can i nominate this for the cat's bum mouth award? Grin

In which case, I would like to share the Cat’s Bum Award as I too viscerally disliked that poster’s way of expressing herself

If the 21st is a family party and not a load of other 21 year olds then I think you are being unnecessarily unfair and restrictive.
Let DH entertain a five year old for the long drive, and your ds enjoy the time with his dad and family.
Having time with the baby will be relaxing

You're being a bit too precious

Why don't you go with them too? At 4 weeks, newborn is VERY portable unless you've had a CS perhaps

Me too! Absolutely awful. If someone talked about keeping me on a leash I’d dump them in a heartbeat

LuckySantangelo35 · 05/06/2022 09:39

If the tables were turned OP, you’d want to be able to go the party too wouldn’t you?

maybe get your family to have a party too soon so you can have a night away 😜

MountainClimber22 · 05/06/2022 09:49

I think he should leave the 5 year old with you and go to the party. You will be fine for 1 day and night.

@MountainClimber22

Why??!

5 year old will enjoy the party and it’s less work for Op if they go
