To be annoyed about the Jubilee

thegreenlight · 30/05/2022 12:34

I know I’m being miserable but I’m bloody pissed off about the sodding Jubilee! I went to sainsburys this morning, paid £1.68 a litre for petrol and then popped in to be confronted by bottles of champagne! The last thing I feel like doing is celebrating! I spent all morning cancelling non-essential DDs as things are really tight with the rise in energy prices and the increased NI contribution.
funny how this ‘magic money tree’ can be harvested to pay for this event when people are genuinely struggling and are told to ‘get a better paid job’! I have a bloody well paid job, thankyou, but am still feeling the pinch. I know people are going to say that the economy will benefit - but how? If people spend more then inflation will rise and the BOE will put up the mortgage rates! I despair!

Andrew still hasnt been found guilty of anything as far as I know

mbosnz · 03/06/2022 14:50

Well, to be fair, he worked bloody hard (for him) to avoid being anywhere near a court with such jurisdiction, and then paid through the nose when civil proceedings got a tad awkward. Or Mummy did. Same thing, really.

goodbyestranger · 03/06/2022 15:51

He admitted liability with the 12m settlement. The case would certainly have gone against him, which is why he was ultimately forced to settle rather than be ‘found guilty’. You don’t get your mum to cough up 12m if you aren’t clear that you did what the other side says you did. 100% guilty as charged, if you prefer to use criminal jargon. He made himself look even less honourable and even more sweaty by trying all sorts of ruses to avoid service for so long and with all his boorish victim blaming ahead of trial.

No, he's called Dr John Kirkhope, an open minded and curious lawyer, not a bitter and twisted harpy such as myself. If you google Researching The Arcane Duchy + his name it'll bring up his work (massive pdf so can't link). It shows how we are basically living in a modern-day feudal system.

I was questioning the amount of money spent given the actual costs of FOIs

We are not living in a feudal sysytem

Yes we are, especially in Cornwall. But you won't read the research so you'll never know 🤷‍♀️

Blossomtoes · 03/06/2022 16:57

It wasn’t very feudal in Bude last week. Quite the reverse.

It can't be pleasant but I suppose the bigger question is would you turn you back on your child? I don't think I could.

Yes. Yes I would, if I'd raised a disgrace like him. 61 yo ffs, 41 at the time. I'd also be ashamed to show my own face in public and wouldn't know what to say to my daughters about how a man I'd raised ever thought that behaviour was ok.

I certainly wouldn't be buying him a brand new Bentley, post-Epstein.

Why waste so much energy minimising? VG was just a little slapper who deserved it, right?

MiniCooperLover · 03/06/2022 17:17

Come on people, OP hasn't come back .. no need to waste your energy I think.

Blossomtoes · 03/06/2022 17:33

Don’t be absurd @FoiledByTheInsect. It’s so easy to come out with that crap when you’ve never been - or are likely to be - in that position. Life’s a lot more complex than that. The Queen’s a devout Christian, inculcated to hate the sin while loving the sinner.

Your last sentence is just vile. Why did you find that necessary?

FoiledByTheInsect · 03/06/2022 17:39

Because I find the attitudes of all the PA and queen apologists on here vile. Morally bankrupt.

I'll leave you all to your pathetic fangirling.

I haven't seen any PA apologist posts on this thread. I have seen posts stating the fact that that he wasn't found guilty (because his mum paid the girl off, which IMO wasn't a wise move).

As I said earlier, I can't imagine what it must be like to be the mother of a son who behaved the way PA did.

The only place there are any apologists is in your head - and a couple of other pp. Literally nobody has been an apologist for a sexual predator.

FoiledByTheInsect · 03/06/2022 17:58

Neither can I, RampantIvy, clearly we were able to instil morals in our male offspring.

If you've got 2 sons that are mates with multiple paedos plus you've knighted (at least) one yourself, a pleb could be forgiven for questioning whether One's claim to service to the nation is a valid one.

Crap. Post after post "oh but he hasn't been found guiltyyyyyy" 😄

This thread, and the streets, are full of apologists for the parents that instilled the values that created that sexual predator and his brother who also has paedo mates.

Blossomtoes · 03/06/2022 18:03

But he hasn’t been found guilty, has he?

Would love to know how many Mnetters who come from colonised countries feels about this.
I’m happy to be British and English. But to me the monarchy represents British Imperialism and hundreds of years of colonised slavery in my country of India.

Shes just some old woman to me and most ethnic minorities I know. An old very rich very privileged woman who didn’t want to give up the commonwealth even though all those countries and their people didn’t give two fucks about QE.

I don’t understand what the achievement is. She has managed to live a long time due to a life of privilege pampering and incredible healthcare. So she does the washing up a bit at Balmoral (can’t believe someone posted this to show how down to earth she is 🤣)
Shes won’t have cleaned or cooked or held down a job or looked after all her children on her own, or had to scrimp and save for a holiday or worried about her bills.
I mean ffs come on. What is her job???

the simpering deference for the monarchy is embarrassing in multicultural Britain.

The vast vast majority of us brown and black people
couldnt give a shit. (I really want to say none of us but waiting for a brown person to appear and say how much the love the queen. Not gonna happen!)

Great post 👏🏼 👏🏼

Fangirl off.

goodbyestranger · 03/06/2022 20:34

Saying 'But he hasn't been found guilty' and 'don't call him a paedo' is tantamount to being an apologist; you can wriggle as much as you like but that's the bottom line. Attributing the pay off to Christian values is a bit cheap too, since it was a brazen exercise in damage limitation for public relations purposes in aid of an institution which is bankrupt of morals on all sorts of fronts. This was only ever about self-preservation. It's corollary involved the trashing of the Christian values of - let's think - not dabbling in trafficking and not raping and not actively encouraging paedos.

@Faffandahalf as I posted up thread, ethnic minority background here, same as many of my neighbours, we are not raving monarchists but are happy to join in with a weekend of celebrations and some community spirit with our street party.

I’ve also been to my faith centre this weekend where they put on a big jubilee celebration. So I’m afraid you’re not speaking on behalf of all ethnic minorities.

The Empire is a hugely complex subject that deserves debate outside for a thread like this. For now I’m happy with my 4 day weekend, happy to be British and English with an equally rich cultural heritage from my grandparents country.

Somethingneedstochange · 04/06/2022 12:23

I'm not big on the royal family myself. But my nana who died when I was 15 was. She would have loved to have been here to celebrate it. So I have been celebrating with my children for her. The jubilee has boosted the economy by 6 billion that's some achievement after the sh*y couple of years we have had. The royal family actually does more than they get credit for. Look at the princes trust what they do for young people. My neice is also doing the Duke of Edinburgh award at the moment. We wouldn't have those opportunities without the royal family. You know what they say if you can't beat them join them.
