To be annoyed about the Jubilee

I know I’m being miserable but I’m bloody pissed off about the sodding Jubilee! I went to sainsburys this morning, paid £1.68 a litre for petrol and then popped in to be confronted by bottles of champagne! The last thing I feel like doing is celebrating! I spent all morning cancelling non-essential DDs as things are really tight with the rise in energy prices and the increased NI contribution.
funny how this ‘magic money tree’ can be harvested to pay for this event when people are genuinely struggling and are told to ‘get a better paid job’! I have a bloody well paid job, thankyou, but am still feeling the pinch. I know people are going to say that the economy will benefit - but how? If people spend more then inflation will rise and the BOE will put up the mortgage rates! I despair!

Anyone imagining that I'm that favourite of MN, the "forelock tugging, cap doffer" couldn't be further from the truth. I'm just rather fond of the Queen in a been there all my life kind of way.

Same here. She has always displayed such a strong sense of duty, unlike some of the other members of the RF. Even people who aren't royalists have some respect for the queen.

I just don't have such a big chip on my shoulder feel strongly enough about the RF to hate what they stand for.

I also think that having a reason, any reason, to have a bit of a celebration in the midst of all this doom and gloom is something nice to lift our spirits.

CreameyBruley - There was never a charge of rape. The offence would have been if PA knew whether VG was trafficked.

PA was literally best mates with two of the world's most notorious paedos, one of whom was invited to Balmoral and who PA continued to visit at Paedo Towers in NY after his first conviction. The other is Peter Nygaard, who no sane human would go within a mile of.

So he knew.

The queen knew.

She couldn't give a toss.

Antarcticant · 30/05/2022 19:40

I do understand that it can be done with a jam tart and a bottle of pop, but you can do that any day

It will depend on where you live, obviously, but as I mentioned earlier in the thread, in my medium-sized town, there are quite a few free-to-attend events going on - live music, art exhibitions, demonstrations by the emergency services, big screens to watch the London events, markets, children's fun days, picnics, street parties. I understand that some or all of those might not be enjoyable for everybody but an effort does seem to have been made to enable people to celebrate without spending a fortune.

mbosnz · 30/05/2022 19:40

I'd feel a lot better about this 'celebration', if people weren't going without food for a day, so their children can eat. Bunting? I'm sorry, I just cannot spend money on Plat Tat when people are going hungry. I'd rather put more items in the food bank collections.

I've always been moderately fond of the queen, but I think this year she's been tone fucking deaf. Understandably, no doubt. She's 90 something. Fair to be a little bit hard of hearing.

Blossomtoes · 30/05/2022 18:47

privilege didn't make Andrew a paedo, he did that all by himself

Nothing did. He’s never even been accused of paedophilia, let alone convicted.

Oh please.

goodbyestranger · 30/05/2022 20:06

Loving the defence of paedos on this thread; very uplifting.

LivingOnAnIsland · 30/05/2022 20:09

PA has never been accused of paedophilia.

gotthis · 30/05/2022 20:11

I see that someone has already posted 'God save the Queen'. I am not a fan of the Sex Pistols but I think they sang it better.

Oblomov22 · 30/05/2022 20:13

Glad for the jubilee. If only because I get another bank holiday. Nothing about it upsets me.

MaulPerton · 30/05/2022 20:15

but I think this year she's been tone fucking deaf

Hear, hear 😀

Actually, she's been tone deaf for a while now. The past couple of years have been appalling, and it's getting worse, hence the increased chatter about them all.

CreamyBruley · 30/05/2022 20:15

LivingOnAnIsland · 30/05/2022 20:09

PA has never been accused of paedophilia.

No just trafficking and rape. Perfectly acceptable. Nothing to see here plebs.

FoiledByTheInsect · 30/05/2022 20:16

How young would she have to have been, for people to put the bunting away?

PA was best mates with a sex obsessive whose life quite literally revolved around abusing underage girls. The artworks, the cameras, the court convictions...

Decent people, especially those in the public eye, just do not have friends like that. The merest hint of reputational damage and they run for their public lives.

The queen knows she can do what she likes and so she's taking you all for a ride.

Blossomtoes · 30/05/2022 20:19

TheOriginalEmu · 30/05/2022 19:43

Oh please.

Oh please what? That was a straightforward statement of fact.

Ragwort · 30/05/2022 20:23

I am amused at all the faux 'don't know what we are celebrating' comments' etc. Fine, if you don't want to celebrate (assume you won't be accepting the additional BH then?) ... jet off for a half term holiday and get stuck at an airport.

In our small town there are lots of FREE events for people to enjoy, old folks tea parties, open air concerts, picnics, free film shows etc etc. None of which cost money to the tax payer and you can get a full meal plus drinks if you want. There is a real buzz about the events and lots of people are looking forward to them.

Ragwort · 30/05/2022 20:24

And yes I know not everyone can take the additional BHs on the actual day - I can't either as I work in retail but will be entitled to them as part of my annual leave.

It's very funny that people now have to condone trafficking and rape to stay truly patriotic.

Lovely.

goodbyestranger · 30/05/2022 20:35

Wondering how long it will take before condoning trips into actively supporting.

Ragwort · 30/05/2022 20:38

Creamy that's absolutely understandable if you do not wish to participate in the celebrations, I am referring to the posters who are saying 'they don't know what it's about'.... they clearly do know what it is about but are just being obtuse. Personally I don't 'celebrate' or acknowledge Halloween, but I do know what it it about and accept the fact that some people do wish to make it a 'special occasion'.

Lozza70 · 30/05/2022 20:39

It’s £5 bottles of Prosecco at the front of Sainsbos not just champagne….. missing the point of the thread

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 30/05/2022 20:42

Can't be excited about a rich woman whos managed to stay in power due to sheer luck. We have hungry kids and homeless people who suffer daily and nothing is done for them. About time this royal family was given a good send off to live on their own money instead of taking ours.

LivingOnAnIsland · 30/05/2022 20:46

Incorrect claims are incorrect claims. Mumsnet is full of people talking rubbish as if it is fact.

beechie12 · 30/05/2022 20:46

The orange order (the openly anti Catholic hate group) have her picture and their flags up this week in our town so that puts me off somewhat.

Lovely.

Except nobody has. Some of us just like a bit of factual accuracy.

goodbyestranger · 30/05/2022 20:54

Ok Blossomtoes what was the basis of the claim? Do you even know?
