Why the fuck is Boris Johnson still Prime Minister?

noblegiraffe · 26/05/2022 17:18

Fucksake. I mean seeing minister after minister wheeled out to defend the indefensible in the media rounds. Do they have no shame? Prattling on about how it was an 'essential part of leadership' to be a Toastmaster to an illegal piss-up. No, leadership was the Queen sat alone at a funeral, like so many of her subjects had to do. Not carrying on with your unprofessional boozy work culture and then have your team crow about how they 'got away with it' when they successfully didn't vomit in front of the cameras there for another press conference telling everyone how important it was to stick to the rules.

Johnson knew it wasn't right to have birthday parties when he personally wrote to a kid saying they were right to not have theirs, but then thought it was just fine to have one of his own and then announce that all rules had been followed to Parliament? (The police disagree, as does anyone who was forced to cancel their own celebrations).

Telling people that it was his duty to have a party for leaving colleagues while at the same time people couldn't be with dying family?

And now they are having the gall to say that he has accepted full responsibility? How? That sort of statement is followed by a resignation, not a 'now let's forget about it and move on'. How has he demonstrated that he has done anything apart from his utmost to weasel out of taking any sort of responsibility, to the point of asking Sue Gray to give up on her report? The report that that he told the rest of us that we had to wait months for the outcome of to find out what he already knew.

He says he wants to deliver what the British people want. Polls said yesterday that a majority want him to resign. Get the fuck on with it then.

But polls also showed that only a tiny minority of people actually believe he has the integrity to do the right thing (learned from bitter experience).

So what, the British people are stuck with this craven, corrupt liar as leader?

Well no. He could be no-confidenced by his MPs. What the fuck are they waiting for? Do they think it is to their benefit to have him shitting over public office every day? 'Oh but they can't think of anyone better'. What exactly does that say about the state of the Tory party if that's true?

Cannot stand seeing his face, hearing his pathetic lies, seeing his shitty schtick any more. JUST FUCK OFF BORIS.

I have no idea really, but it appears that accountability went out the window long ago. He must have the hide of a rhino to stick it out like this.

There must be someone in the Conservative party who could replace him, surely.

BorisJohnsonatemyhampster · 26/05/2022 19:27

….because yesterday I heard one of the PAs say ‘why do people keep bringing up these parties, it was last year, it’s over. He should be able to do what he wants, he’s the PM of this country and we should support him’.

Some people in this country will doff their caps and bow and scrape in front of anyone with a posh accent. They believe they are a special breed above the law.

Lavenderlast · 26/05/2022 19:30

And to make it even worse, Boris has - again! - successfully changed the top story in all of the newspapers from being about his lawbreaking to being about today’s announcement re. money being given to people by the government ie him. He’s literally buying his way out of trouble. Again.

The Conservative MPs still supporting him have no integrity and, worse than that, no idea why integrity might matter in the person running the country.

Wish Labour would put forward some kind of decent opposition. Sadiq Khan has so much leadership ability and integrity I wish someone could persuade him to stand for leader. I had high hopes for Starmer until he said a man can have a cervix 🙄

But I don’t really care whether the next government is Labour or Conservative I would just really love it if it comprised competent people with integrity 🙏

Hundreds if not thousands of years of conditioning mean that as soon as people hear a posh voice they roll over and show their belly like the serfs we once were.

Lavender, the Conservatives have an 80 seat majority, which makes Opposition hard, frankly.

Despite that, Labour have still managed to force this government into today's package of measures to help people with the cost of living crisis.

That doesn't come out of nowhere: it happened because Starmer is a good Leader, with a strong team behind them.

I hear you when you say you care about the issue around women's rights - I do.

But I would say this: every issue around women's rights has happened under this Conservative government. Whatever the rhetoric is.

I would also say that I think a Labour government will be thoughtful on this issue.

Lastly, I'd say that I really think Starmer really is opposing this government. He is a good Leader, with integrity. Have a look at the issues he's leading Labour on in the round. Look at the direction of travel.

Starmer's already led the Labour Party to a place where a Labour government wojld be on your sids.

Honestly - you can trust Labour, already.

You already can't trust Johnson and his cronies.

camelfinger · 26/05/2022 20:12

Lots of people feel reassured with a posh man in charge. And He also ticks the lovable rogue box. I hate him.

Porcupineintherough · 26/05/2022 20:19

He got Brexit done. And what a bundle of joy that's turning out to be.
Fuck knows why OP. Am beginning to suspect my fellow countrymen (and women) are more than a tad stupid.

I wouldn't trust Labour not to stick me in a hospital bed next to a bloke and then have the nurses gaslight me and withhold pain medication until I stop complaining.

noblegiraffe · 26/05/2022 20:33

If there are any hospital beds or nurses left once the Tories are finished with the NHS.

I sobbed this morning watching a mum say when her son died he could have 10 people at his funeral.

Why was saying goodbye to the deceased considered less important than needing to day goodbye to a work colleague.

It was heartbreaking.

My mum died last week. We were still very limited to our visits and all in masks etc. I cannot imagine how people who couldn't say goodbye felt.

I'm also fuming that the story's defence is that it's Johnson or Starmer. Are they really that lacking they haven't got 1 good MP they could wheel out instead of Johnson - out if the ones who they didn't lose a few weeks ago?

CheshireSplat · 26/05/2022 20:48

I remember reading this at the time and being vaguely aware of the comedian referenced in the article who was going to be president of Ukraine. Jeez, so sad that we have all seen what a great leader he has turned out to be.

Theeyeballsinthefuckingsky · 26/05/2022 20:49

Because the Tories don’t know who to replace him with. Rishi was very successfully torpedoed by briefings that originated from Johnson. They don’t want Liz truss. Sajid Javid is probably smart enough not to want to do it. Even the Tories know Patel is poison. Jeremy hunt is a possibility but I think many Tories see him as too liberal

Só he’ll be there until they’ve worked out who will replace him & then he’ll be gone - they’re not at all sentimental

the question is when that happens….

CapMarvel · 26/05/2022 21:02

Mainly because the electorate in the UK are clearly fucking idiots.

ilovesooty · 26/05/2022 21:06

I suspect that quite a few of the lifelong Tories who keep to their votes because of women's rights are pretty well off and sitting pretty under a Conservative government.

noblegiraffe · 26/05/2022 21:09

It's not the electorate right now who are fucking idiots, we have no say. It's the sitting Tory MPs who have the ability to remove him and who aren't.

Shame on them.

Fuck knows. He’s trashed every single one of the Nolan Principles and couldn’t give a shiny shite, but the knuckle draggers think because he ‘got Brexit done’ (never mind that he completely fucked Northern Ireland up the arse with a massive butternut squash) he’s the living reincarnation of god. He’s not god. He’s a dangerous twat. I imagine there must be a great many ‘small c’ conservatives very uncomfortable with these latest revelations, particularly those who lost family members.

AppleandRhubarbTart · 26/05/2022 21:20

noblegiraffe · 26/05/2022 18:59

vast majority of Tory MPs take the view that he is still their best chance of winning the next General Election

Are they actually stupid? Polls say he should resign and also put Labour in the lead.

That still doesn't mean the Tories have a candidate available who'd do better. And therein lies the rub. If they had anyone else they thought was a better option, he'd have departed in the same way as Hague, IDS, Thatcher etc by now.

bettbburg · 26/05/2022 21:21

Because he's a feckless, self serving tosser who thinks he's god's gift to the electorate.

Do you have a detailed breakdown of the figures to give context to the statements please ?

There's loads of them. Even if you discount the ones being investigated for sexual assault, the joke ones like Fabricant or Dorries, the hideously awful ones like Mogg or Patel, you've still got loads of choice.

It's not like to replace Johnson you need anyone with great leadership skills or competence as he has neither. Someone who isn't going to blither on about Peppa Pig instead of actually deliver prepared, professional speeches, shag his "tech adviser" and give her taxpayer's money, lie to parliament, lie to the Queen, whip MPs to vote to get his mate off the hook from dodgy dealings then do a u-turn making them look like idiots, take bribes gold wallpaper money then pretend he didn't, appoint dubious Russians to the House of Lords....the list goes on and on. There must be some Tory MPs who would manage to do the job without that sort of thing.

ilovesooty · 26/05/2022 21:39

Every member of the Cabinet is tainted by Johnson in my opinion.

Any member of the electorate with any decency or integrity who lives in a constituency with a Tory MP should be questioning why their MP is still supporting Johnson.

@itsgettingweird There are probably at least 100 Tory MPs even with the paucity of talent in the House of Commons who could do a better job or less bad one than Boris Johnson. They probably also treat women in their private life at least with some respect.

There are only three in the current cabinet maybe four who have a clue, and only two who have not stood for leader before- Ben Wallace and Nadhim Zahawi.
