Why the fuck is Boris Johnson still Prime Minister?

Fucksake. I mean seeing minister after minister wheeled out to defend the indefensible in the media rounds. Do they have no shame? Prattling on about how it was an 'essential part of leadership' to be a Toastmaster to an illegal piss-up. No, leadership was the Queen sat alone at a funeral, like so many of her subjects had to do. Not carrying on with your unprofessional boozy work culture and then have your team crow about how they 'got away with it' when they successfully didn't vomit in front of the cameras there for another press conference telling everyone how important it was to stick to the rules.

Johnson knew it wasn't right to have birthday parties when he personally wrote to a kid saying they were right to not have theirs, but then thought it was just fine to have one of his own and then announce that all rules had been followed to Parliament? (The police disagree, as does anyone who was forced to cancel their own celebrations).

Telling people that it was his duty to have a party for leaving colleagues while at the same time people couldn't be with dying family?

And now they are having the gall to say that he has accepted full responsibility? How? That sort of statement is followed by a resignation, not a 'now let's forget about it and move on'. How has he demonstrated that he has done anything apart from his utmost to weasel out of taking any sort of responsibility, to the point of asking Sue Gray to give up on her report? The report that that he told the rest of us that we had to wait months for the outcome of to find out what he already knew.

He says he wants to deliver what the British people want. Polls said yesterday that a majority want him to resign. Get the fuck on with it then.

But polls also showed that only a tiny minority of people actually believe he has the integrity to do the right thing (learned from bitter experience).

So what, the British people are stuck with this craven, corrupt liar as leader?

Well no. He could be no-confidenced by his MPs. What the fuck are they waiting for? Do they think it is to their benefit to have him shitting over public office every day? 'Oh but they can't think of anyone better'. What exactly does that say about the state of the Tory party if that's true?

Cannot stand seeing his face, hearing his pathetic lies, seeing his shitty schtick any more. JUST FUCK OFF BORIS.

Interesting article today- seems to suggest the tipping point for getting rid of Boris Johnson as PM could be the two by-elections coming up.

In Wakefield the sitting Tory MP had to resign because of convictions for sexual assault against a child and being put in prison for 18 months.

In Honiton the sitting Tory MP had to resign because of watching porn reportedly in Committee and in the Commons chambers instead of doing his job in Parliament.

Predictions from doorstep campaigners so far are that the Tories will be rejected in big numbers. Turns out that voters don’t like being misled, lied to and patronised. We do want decent people representing us in politics.

Because there are a LOT of idiots in this country I'm afraid Op.

ilovesooty · 26/05/2022 17:24

We know why. The tory backbenchers are afraid of losing their majorities.

And sufficient numbers of people will say

He got Brexit done
We should move on
They're all as bad as each other
But Corbyn
But Starmer

Take your pick. It doesn't matter what he does. People with no moral compass, be it voters or backbenchers, will justify his remaining in power.

Of course by saying this I'm apparently preventing people from having a different opinion

BBC NEWS LIVE Vote of confidence in Boris Johnson looking likely
www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-politics-60289386

Are Tory MPs finally realising what we’ve all been saying.. ?

Posted at 8:038:03
What’s been happening so far?
It's increasingly likely that Boris Johnson could face a possible vote of confidence in his leadership as MPs return to Westminster today after the half-term break.

Here’s a quick round-up of what’s been happening so far this morning:

Tory MPs have told the BBC a no confidence vote could be triggered this week
^For a confidence vote to happen, 54 Tory MPs must write a letter to Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of the backbench 1922 Committee
Sir Roger Gale, Conservative MP for North Thanet, told the BBC the Conservative Party isspoilt for choicewhen it comes to options for a new leader^
^Jesse Norman, the MP for Hereford and South Herefordshire, became the latest Tory MP to announce that he has put in a letter to Brady
But ministers backed Johnson on Monday morning, with Health Secretary Sajid Javid telling the BBC that while he believes a vote of confidence islikely”, it is “not something the country needs^” ‘

Thank you for doing the right thing Jesse Norman

Vote on today !

newnamethanks · 06/06/2022 08:14

🤞

the80sweregreat · 06/06/2022 08:19

I bet he wins it :(
What's the odds ?

artisanbread · 06/06/2022 08:19

Part of me hopes he does win, lumbers on being deeply unpopular until the next election when the Tory party will be deservedly voted out. On the downside that would mean having to put up with two more years of his hopeless leadership of course.

the80sweregreat · 06/06/2022 08:20

Brady not answering any questions!
He looks so uncomfortable.

HeritageVegetable · 06/06/2022 08:21

The measure of Johnson's problem is that in a constituency where the MP was literally imprisoned for sexually assaulting a child, the number one topic on the doorstep is how awful Johnson is.

I’m going to email my Tory MP to say that today is their big chance to act in accordance with the standards of the job.

ArielFelix · 06/06/2022 08:58

My current MP is a conservative but has had his whip removed. Does anyone know if he gets to phone in his vote in the confidence vote, or does he not get a vote?

L1ttledrummergirl · 06/06/2022 09:42

I've written to mine (again) this morning.

DowningStreetParty · 06/06/2022 09:43

So it looks like they wouldn’t get a vote on a party matter if they had had the whip removed. I looked it up, I didn’t know either:

The ‘whip being removed’ means that the MP ceases to represent their party and sits as an independent MP. Twenty-one Conservative MPs had the whip removed in 2019 after voting against the government to allow MPs to take control of the Commons timetable to pass the Benn Act, which was designed to remove the possibility of a no-deal Brexit. As of March 2022, there are eight MPs sitting as Independents, having had the whip removed. These include former leader of the Labour party Jeremy Corbyn, who was suspended from the Labour Party after refusing to accept all of the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s findings on antisemitism in the party.’

I really hope that MPs realise how strong the feeling is that we need people with integrity running things in the interests of ordinary people, when we’ve got this many crises happening all at the same time. It’s way more than the corruption in lockdown.

Latest numbers on support for Johnson
‘Boris Johnson needs at least 180 Conservative MPs to back him later if he's to survive the vote of confidence in his leadership.

The BBC's political research unit puts the number of party colleagues publicly declaring their support at 73, including most of the cabinet.

But the ballot is secret - and we won't know how much actual backing there is for the prime minister until after voting ends at 20:00 BST.’

reesewithoutaspoon · 06/06/2022 13:24

I wish he would go, but then the alternatives aren't appealing either.
But he gave cabinet posts to his cronies who would risk losing their lucrative positions if he wasn't there. so they will vote in their own self-interest no one else's.
I have a horrible feeling he will stay, possibly being jettisoned nearer a GE because they know he has lost favour with voters, but is convenient to keep him in the meantime because the job is shit at the moment with all the issues of a looming recession, cost of living crisis, etc. he could be a fall guy for some white knight who will ride in pre election, cut some taxes and the sheeple will vote them back in forgetting the shit show of the last 4 years

Arnaquer · 06/06/2022 13:33

Whilst I welcome the vote, I know he will survive. He's like bloody Teflon

noblegiraffe · 06/06/2022 13:39

Theresa May had won her vote by this point. Starting to get a little hopeful.

Why the fuck is Boris Johnson still Prime Minister?

Yes. Hopefully MPs can see that Boris Johnson the shameful law breaking, fined PM who has also pretty much ripped up the Ministerial code, and who prorogued Parliament over Brexit, is in a whole different and much, much more worrying league than Theresa May ever was.

Pedallleur · 06/06/2022 14:15

Let us remind ourselves How did he ever get to be PM? Had you been married to him he would have been long gone

DowningStreetParty · 06/06/2022 14:43

That’s a really accurate summary of the Johnson moral trajectory in that video. And that’s the question isn’t it: What will Conservative MPs do about it?

Most of them are decent people with a good moral compass who wouldn’t ever dream of behaving like Johnson does. We have to hope that the remainder, might be self-serving enough to realise that sticking with Johnson is a liability for keeping themselves in a job and will vote ‘no confidence’ on that basis.

DowningStreetParty · 07/06/2022 06:35

Well at least over 100 of them have a decent moral compass Sad
