Is it just me? Jubilee clothes etc

At my DD's school they are having a Jubilee lunch on Friday and have to wear red, white and blue. So we went out to find a top to wear today. Lots of the shops had loads of red, white and blue for adults including actual specific Jubilee t-shirts but very little for children. Is it just me that finds this so confusing? Lots of DC will probably have parties/lunches etc including dressing up. But what adult wants to wear a Jubilee t-shirt or coordinating red, white and blue clothes?

I find it like this for other things too. Like when my teen DS was younger it was hard to find a Christmas top/jumper for him, yet the men's section was full of them?! I really don't understand!

Next, M&S and Monsoon all have jubilee kids clothes in. I saw them today.

Those shops are a bit expensive for me, mind you our Monsoon closed down.

How is this hard though?

Blue jeans and white tee surely everyone owns.

Then red shoes or a hat or a hoodie or a headband ..

She doesn't have blue jeans and a white tee, let alone red shoes or a hat etc!

So cringe and wasteful, will all end up in landfill

Not if you get plain coloured clothes they will wear over and over.

Ribbon costs pennies and can be reused for crafts or present wrapping or hair decoration. Hobbycraft even do union flag ribbon.

It might cost pennies but we don't have a shop that sells ribbon on our high st.

Just put on whatever colors you do have like a blue skirt and white t shirt if you have them, and forget the red. I doubt they are going to go around with a clipboard checking off a list to see if everyone has every color on. If someone from the school moans at you, tell them what you have told us here. Do NOT go and purchase something specially.

I think this kind of thing happens when you've got a Head who is obsessed with what the photos will look like on the school's social media accounts.

We weren't specifically trying to have all 3 colours in her outfit, but she doesn't have a t-shirt in any of the 3 colours but wanted to get one, which is fine by me as she needs t-shirts for the summer anyway. Noone at school will say anything, this is just what my DD would like to wear.

A pair of jeans/blue leggings, a white and/or red t-shirt and a white or red hat. Simples.

Well, yes, simple if you already own those items - we don't!

White t shirt, blue jeans, red socks!

Whit t shirt, blue jeans, red head band/hair bobble.

White t shirt, navy PE leggings/shorts, red nail varnish (allowed on mufti days)

Shoe laces...can be bought in a multitude of colours...buy two pairs/one red/one white/one blue in each shoe.

If your DC are girls, bobbles/ribbons/hair accessories of any kind.

It's really not that hard ffs!!

No, it's not that hard if you own all those items! We don't! She doesn't have jeans or a white t-shirt. No red socks or hair bobbles. Their P.E shorts are a different colour. The trainer's she wears to school don't have shoe laces.

I like the idea of nail varnish. I have red and blue!

I wish we did red, white and blue! DC primary school is asking them to dress as kings/princes/queens/princesses. I think this massively favours girls who mostly already have some Disney princess outfit. What boy has a prince or king outfit?
Ended up buying some regal robes for two DS but secretly annoyed with myself that I gave in. They'll never wear them again.

Yes, it does favour girls, although by Y5/6 girls aren't wearing princess dresses anymore.

If we already owned those things I wouldn’t have been looking in supermarkets for them 😂

Quite!

No, she doesn't. If she did I wouldn't be schlepping round the shops!

This is where football shirts cone in, most are red white or blue

My DD wore a red headband, white top and blue jeans. Stuff already in wardrobe. Nothing new purchased. Was it a shit effort ? Yep!! But it didn't cost anything so I'll take it as a win.

letsnotdothat · 28/05/2022 07:18

DD’s school also did this so I got them a red tshirt and blue denim skirt from new look, they wore it with white tights they already had. Easy.

Sounds fine. She didn't already have suitable clothes or she would have worn them!

Yes, as I said when we got to New Look we finally found red t-shirts!

EcafTnuc totally agree with you . Its so wasteful and throwaway unless it can be worn in usual life .

Sceptre86 · 31/05/2022 23:34

Ours have asked the kids to wear party clothes, any colours are fine but something in either red, white or blue would fit the theme. Their outfit doesn't have to be all three colours. I'm suspecting that was the issue, trying to find clothes that are red, white AND blue?
