Is it just me? Jubilee clothes etc

At my DD's school they are having a Jubilee lunch on Friday and have to wear red, white and blue. So we went out to find a top to wear today. Lots of the shops had loads of red, white and blue for adults including actual specific Jubilee t-shirts but very little for children. Is it just me that finds this so confusing? Lots of DC will probably have parties/lunches etc including dressing up. But what adult wants to wear a Jubilee t-shirt or coordinating red, white and blue clothes?

I find it like this for other things too. Like when my teen DS was younger it was hard to find a Christmas top/jumper for him, yet the men's section was full of them?! I really don't understand!

Asda have t-shirts with union jack's on. Nice not naff.

DontLookBackInAnger1 · 25/05/2022 17:46

Sadly I know of quite a few adults who have bought clothes for jubilee. I think it's a bit cringe personally but each to their own.

I also don't think people should be feeling like they have to go out and buy new clothes just for the jubilee, when most of us don't really care about the royal family. Especially in times where people are reducing what they eat and using energy due to astronomical costs.

Just put kids in a nice dress or top and leave it there in my opinion.

TheFairyNamedMary · 25/05/2022 18:02

My work put out an email to join in the “fun” and wear red white blue..I’d never buy anything specifically. If I don’t wear anything those colours then so be it.

BiscoffSundae · 25/05/2022 18:08

Couldn’t get any as it’s mostly all online and even then a lot is sold out so had to buy my boys 2 men’s Xsmall tops as there is tomorrow

What shops did you go into literally every shop around here has red white and blue children's clothing in, especially supermarkets. Just today I've seen packs of Tshirts in red white and blue in Morrisons and our Tescos have a display of jubilee coloured clothes in the entrance.

DDivaStar · 25/05/2022 18:13

I saw a post on Facebook showing how to remove the back from a union jack paper napkin and glue onto a tshirt using plastic. Only good for 1 wear tho..... Might be worth a try if you can't find anything.

Hesma · 25/05/2022 18:16

You’ve left it very late and kids’ stuff has gone. Still adult stuff available as the cringe more

We went in Primark, H&M and Peacocks. Managed to get a red t-shirt in New Look. I can't afford to get something to be worn once but this will be used all over the summer.

Fast fashion is bad enough, throwing extra tat in like this which will be worn once then binned / “kindly” donated to charity is throwing fuel on the fire.

*using pva !

I'm amazed not of these shops had any Tshirts in red white or blue. Although I'd be surprised if a child didn't have anything suitable already in the wardrobe in any of those colours to be fair, it's about the most inclusive non uniform day they could do.

DashboardConfessional · 25/05/2022 18:21

You're best in supermarkets for that sort of thing (World Book Day etc.) as they have a faster turnover. Not many international fashion retailers like H&M will give store space to a selection of what's basically novelty wear.

Flev · 25/05/2022 18:22

DDs preschool asked them to wear red, white and blue and "be creative".

We've bought some red leggings and I'm sewing a union jack flag from some bunting onto an old white t-shirt over the top of another logo on there, along with an existing navy hoodie - but I've got a 3yr old who's not that fussed what it looks like so it's a lot easier.

catsonahottinroof · 25/05/2022 18:22

I didn't realise Jubilee clothing was a 'thing', and I agree most adults would not be interested in owning anything Jubilee specific. But, it should be easy enough to find plain white, red or blue tops for either sex which would be much more useful as could be worn again.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 25/05/2022 18:22

I’d send mine in wearing an anarchy t shirt personally.

This. DD will be wearing clothes she already has. Might try and do a flag on her face using face paint. DS's school isn't doing it.

fyn · 25/05/2022 18:27

Our nursery is having a jubilee tea party for parents and children and have asked for themed clothes. I’m just going to wear a navy dress, surely most people have something that is blue! I’ve bought my daughter this dress because she can wear it again but most children must have a blue or white top! www.next.co.uk/g644419s3/971245#971245

RandomUsernameHere · 25/05/2022 18:28

*isn't doing it

Kite22 · 25/05/2022 18:30

I don't understand the idea of going out to buy something.
Surely you just have a rummage in the wardrobe and they can wear something that is red, OR white OR blur OR any combination of those.
Borrow from a cousin or friend or neighbour if siblings really and truely don't have anything in any of those colours.
Or charity shop.

StridTheKiller · 25/05/2022 18:36

@fyn I'm so jealous! Those Next shirred dresses are to die for but sadly my baby girl is a mahoosively tall 8 year old.

Namechanger965 · 25/05/2022 18:40

DDs school are doing ‘royal party clothes’, she’s wearing a rapunzel princess dress and a crown. Quite glad they haven’t specified red, white and blue outfits

Hallyup89 · 25/05/2022 18:41

Doesn't every child own an item of clothing that's either red, white or blue? It's not like you actually need to go out and buy something special.

Yes, I agree re:specific Jubilee tops. We were just looking for a red t-shirt.

Have others got there first, given there have been events and talk about it for a while now?
