Is it just me? Jubilee clothes etc

At my DD's school they are having a Jubilee lunch on Friday and have to wear red, white and blue. So we went out to find a top to wear today. Lots of the shops had loads of red, white and blue for adults including actual specific Jubilee t-shirts but very little for children. Is it just me that finds this so confusing? Lots of DC will probably have parties/lunches etc including dressing up. But what adult wants to wear a Jubilee t-shirt or coordinating red, white and blue clothes?

I find it like this for other things too. Like when my teen DS was younger it was hard to find a Christmas top/jumper for him, yet the men's section was full of them?! I really don't understand!

My Dd has a white t shirt with blue writing on that she already has. She doesn't have anything red so I bought her a red scrunchie to wear in her hair. She informed me today that she hates scrunchies so she probably won't wear it.

Typical, isn't it?!

DS has to dress up as a Prince or King. This is obviously a popular theme as it is nigh on impossible to buy a Prince outfit right now. I have had to be pretty creative but have put something together now. I wish we could have done red, white and blue as that would have been easier!

Yes, it is definitely easier!

I got a couple of plain white t-shirts some fabric paint and made my own as I couldn't find any.

AnuSTart · 25/05/2022 21:47

Wow.
This is ludicrous.
Let's all celebrate the life of a billionaire in clothes made by children for less than 10p a day.

This is beyond fucked up.
Seriously.
People buying into this should feel
Some fucking SHAME.

What for buying a red t-shirt?

We just put DS in a pair of blue joggers, his white PE tshirt and a red hoody. We didn’t buy anything special - if we hadn’t had one of those items he’d have been in blue and white only, or red and white.

Do you honestly not own anything red or blue? What colours does your child wear outside of school?

She wears green, black, grey, pink, mainly I think!

But as I have said for the umpteenth time she has blue leggings. We were looking for a t-shirt.

Why do people keep asking the OP is she ‘honestly’ doesn’t own anything blue or white? If she did, I doubt she’d have been trawling shops for blue or white things, or posting this thread.
My son has some blue jeans and a red t-shirt (not that he needs to dress up for the jubilee, he’s at nursery and they’re not doing anything special). My daughters… no, they don’t. If they did, I’d be happily dressing them in the things they own and wouldn’t be resorting to buying a 2 pack of red polo shirts from Asda for £3 so that they meet the brief.
People don’t tend to try and make life difficult for themselves for no reason.

Thank you. I'm really not trying to make my life difficult! My DD is the type that likes to follow 'the rules' (I think she's probably autistic) so I do tend to put in a bit of effort so she feels comfortable.

Slightly off topic, but today I saw jubilee bedding! Duvet cover and pillow cases. Who the actual is buying that? So bizarre.

Some kind of Royal family sexual fantasy?? 😯

Surely she already owns clothes that are either red white or blue, there pretty standard colours for clothing.

Yes, actually she has drawers full of them. I just went trailing round the shops today for fun.

I had to laugh in one charity shop a lady wanted to try on a red white and blue dress from the window. The shop assistant said it wasn’t going to be for sale until next week. The woman said she wanted to buy it for a jubilee party and the shop wouldn’t sell it because it was their display!

Oh dear!

@Silvercatowner

I’d buy a black one and paint an anarchy sign in fabric paint.

Im a Republican. I find all this sick making. Looking forward to going out and about in the country on bank holiday hoping it won’t be busy because everyone will be at street parties.

The countryside will be full of drunk tossers with their sodding disposable BBQs

AnnaSW1 · 25/05/2022 22:53

Next, M&S and Monsoon all have jubilee kids clothes in. I saw them today.

Blinky21 · 25/05/2022 22:54

So cringe and wasteful, will all end up in landfill

Rupertgrintismyguiltypleasure · 25/05/2022 22:57

dd9 has hers tomorrow, we’ve not brought anything specific for it... she’s wearing her denim dungaree dress, white tshirt and a red cardigan, white trainers. The only thing we ever buy for is children in need.
personally I don’t wear stuff for events only try to match the colours is need be.

ouch321 · 25/05/2022 22:59

How is this hard though?

Blue jeans and white tee surely everyone owns.

Then red shoes or a hat or a hoodie or a headband ..

fruitpastille · 25/05/2022 23:02

Ribbon costs pennies and can be reused for crafts or present wrapping or hair decoration. Hobbycraft even do union flag ribbon.

WarOnSlugs · 26/05/2022 03:17

This is beyond ridiculous. Jubilee clothes?!?

user1477391263 · 26/05/2022 03:31

Just put on whatever colors you do have like a blue skirt and white t shirt if you have them, and forget the red. I doubt they are going to go around with a clipboard checking off a list to see if everyone has every color on. If someone from the school moans at you, tell them what you have told us here. Do NOT go and purchase something specially.

I think this kind of thing happens when you've got a Head who is obsessed with what the photos will look like on the school's social media accounts.

TheFairyNamedMary · 25/05/2022 18:02

My work put out an email to join in the “fun” and wear red white blue..I’d never buy anything specifically. If I don’t wear anything those colours then so be it.

@TheFairyNamedMary

Lol if you “don’t wear anything” you’ll be the hit of the office party! 🎉

I know what you meant - I couldn’t help myself.

PinkSyCo · 26/05/2022 04:34

A pair of jeans/blue leggings, a white and/or red t-shirt and a white or red hat. Simples.

MinnieMountain · 26/05/2022 06:27

I’m glad my 8yo’s school has also given the option of their party clothes.

SpringIntoChaos · 26/05/2022 07:16

White t shirt, blue jeans, red socks!

Whit t shirt, blue jeans, red head band/hair bobble.

White t shirt, navy PE leggings/shorts, red nail varnish (allowed on mufti days)

Shoe laces...can be bought in a multitude of colours...buy two pairs/one red/one white/one blue in each shoe.

If your DC are girls, bobbles/ribbons/hair accessories of any kind.

It's really not that hard ffs!!

MoHunter · 26/05/2022 07:34

I wish we did red, white and blue! DC primary school is asking them to dress as kings/princes/queens/princesses. I think this massively favours girls who mostly already have some Disney princess outfit. What boy has a prince or king outfit?
Ended up buying some regal robes for two DS but secretly annoyed with myself that I gave in. They'll never wear them again.

If we already owned those things I wouldn’t have been looking in supermarkets for them 😂

I always want to refuse to do these stupid things that we have to spend pointless money on but then I realise it’s the children that will feel embarrassed/left out so I always give it. It’s so frustrating isn’t it
